  1. The R44's are retired. None are coming back, you can take that to the bank.

Extra trains come to the L via having a lower spare factor. Nothing gets taken from the J/M. In fact, they've each had a trainset added recently.

does that mean the R42s on the (J) will show up more often or it'll just mean less R160s as spare in East NY yard. When I Was in the city last sunday, there was only 1 R42 set on the (J) the other 4 were laid up.

  2. Metro North is like an alternate universe, its like the LIRR but the fonts are wierd, the trains have the seats going the wrong way, the same dude is talking about Grand Central instead of Penn Station, old trains actually run outside of rush hour, diesel trains have single decked cars instead of double deckers, the stations look clean, and arent falling apart, and even the conductors are less grumpy on Metro North.

  3. SLE will not see M8s for several years. Their stations have to be converted to high level platforms and the whole order must be completed as well. Also after this is complete, many tests will have to be done. So don't get excited after that so fast.:(

we wont see all the M8s for several years at the rate this is going. And I only made mention of that because I believe they will keep the M6 cars and possibly some M4s because they are going to need em, when you factor the M8 totals after subtracting about 60 of them for SLE.

  4. Don't know where you're getting that, but last time I checked, 380 M8 cars certainly replaces 346 cars..... (244 M2s + 48 M4s + 54 M6s), and now the count is up to 405 M8s. Hopefully they exercise the option and bring it up to 430 cars. That would be nice.

Shore Line east is getting M8s as well

  5. 2O7st Yard/ Pitkin Yard

    R42 & R46

    Remaining R42's for (S) service

    R46's on (A)(C) Lines

    Coney Island Yard

    R68A & R160A's

    R160A's on both (N)(Q) & R68A on the (G)(B)

    Concourse Yard

    R68's on the (D)

    Jamaica Yard

    R160B R160A & 10 R32's (sets of 10)

    (E)(F) fully R160A&B ®10 R32's and 19 R160's

    East New York Yard

    R160 8 Car, R143, & 12 R32 (sets of 10)

    (M) fully 8 car R160 (L) R143 and 6 sets of 8 car R32's) (J)/(Z) R160/R32

    Canarsie Yard

    R143/R32 (6 R32's 8-Car assigned to the (L))

since the R142's have permanent strip maps. the IRT division has no changes

if they had FINDs then the

    (1)(2)(5)(6) would be fully R142/R142A

    (3)(4)(7) would be fully R62/R62A

I think these assignments are really feasible

Not really, the (L) needs the special R160 sets that it has because it uses CBTC and has only one person per train operation, the 32s cant do that because they lack the technology and the full width cabs to properly open and close the doors.

  6. 1 - R62A

    2 - R142

    3 - half R62 R62A

    4 - half R62 R142

    5 - R142

    6 - mostly R142A some R62A

    7 - R142 R188

    S - R62A

    A - R46 some R32 (will get all 46s when 179s come in)

    B - R68A some R160

    C - R46 some R32 (will get all 46s when 179s come in)

    D - R68

    E - the remaining 42s R160 (will get 179s)

    F - half R46 R160 (will get 179s and move the 46s to pitkin)

    G - R68

    J - R160 some R32 (will get 179s)

    M - R160

    L - R143 some R160

    N - some R68 R160

    Q - R68A R160

    R - half R46 R160 (will get 179s to share with E and F)

    S frank - R68A

    S rock - R46

    Z - R160

the 179 order cant come fast enough in my opinion.

Staten Island - a special fleet of 179s should be ordered for the SIRT, no handmedown 46s

  7. The IRT is great for fanning, because of small headways, the BMT has great elevated structures, and the IND has long lines for more diverse station pictures. But I have to go with the BMT because of the colorful fleet and elevated structures.

the IRT headways are no better than the rest, yea the (1)(6) and (7) are speedy but the (2)(3)(4) and (5) are slow once you get out to the ends of the system, theyre all 12 minutes on weekends

  9. You should move away from subway and learn some rails.

And what sets are you talking about?

This is to replace the M3s LIRR.

M3A MNR to early to tell

No thanks, especially with the M-8s having glitchs.. Why pick them..

its that one set thats in the Arch Street Shop platform which is near the Hunterspoint Ave Station

  10. Camera shake occurs at all shutter speeds. Whether or not it is optically evident in your photos is another question.

For example, imagine a camera duct-taped to a vibrator (yes, i'm being serious here, you pervs.) You trip the shutter twice, one frame at 1/30 shutter speed and another at 1/8000 shutter speed. Camera shake in both shots was the same, regardless of the shutter speed (or even presence of IS), right?

That said, IS is useful at all shutter speeds, in fact, Nikon sells a 200mm f/2 lens that has VR (Nikon calls it VR; Canon calls it IS). We shouldn't forget the famous 70-200mm f/2.8 VR.

what i meant was the camera shake ruining the photo

  11. For Canon lenses, is IS and/or USM a must?

image stabilisation is a handy feature, USM is not a huge deal, its just a quieter, slightly faster focusing system that allows you in some models to adjust the manual focus without having to take it out of autofocus mode.

if the aperature is below f2.8 you wont need image stabilisation, since the faster aperatures allow you to take pictures in low light with quicker shutter speeds therefore reducing the risk of camera shake.
