  1. Hi mark1447! Grand Concourse and PATCOMan made a friendly suggestion in a thread I started that I thought sounded good and had merit to try. I thought a Subway and a Bus Random Thoughts Thread might actually help reduce a lot of these little service change, service alert, 12-9 and random threads that have been appearing by giving members a thread to post them in. If a member then reads them and wishes to comment, that's wondful. Maybe help to reduce some of the clutter, so to speak. Some of these - especially service changes and alerts are short term.

Idk whats the purpose of a random thought thread for buses as we can make a thread for discussion or use the other random thought.

  2. Hi 4P3607! I considered a single Transit Thread, but figured it would have to be in Off Topic and might get really large, so I created one for subways and one for buses and placed them in the subway and bus forums. Please enjoy!

Hey 70(EE) can we also post about Buses? if so then:

-I wonder if 3607 will get the new decal scheme since its a blackback...

  3. Welcome to the revised NYCTF Off Topic Lounge Random Thoughts Thread!

On a friendly suggestion, I created a new Random Thoughts thread for Subways and for Buses in their respective forums.

Please continue to feel free to post anything off topic which doesn't really require a seperate thread - sports, movies, television, radio, games, life, etc.

  4. Welcome to the NYC Transit Forums Bus Random Thoughts Thread!

Please post anything bus related that doesn't really require a seperate thread - Service delays, Service alerts, favorite and least favorite things, ideas, memories and thoughts about NYC buses - TA, MaBSTOA, MTA Bus, local and express. Also feel free to post random thoughts about LI Bus, Huntington Area Rapid Transit, Suffolk Transit, Bee Line, Putnam Area Rapid Transit, Former PBLs and Streetcars - Third Avenue Railway, B.M.T., PCC cars, etc.

Welcome to NYC Transit Forums Random Subway Thoughts Thread!

Post anything subway related that doesn't really need a seperate thread - Service alerts, Service delays, favorite and least favorite things, memories, thoughts about the New York City subway here. Also post any random SIR and AirTrain thoughts.

  6. While this was happening, 70(GG) and 70(EE) trains were diverted to the express track between 71st Avenue-Continental Avenue and Roosvelt Avenue.

At Roosevelt Avenue, the stowaway passenger was let off and the 70(GG) started again. Unfortunately, unknown to the crew, another 70(GG) was switching at Roosvelt Avenue.

The disabled train hit the switching train at the flfth car with a horrible force. Two left us and Seventy more were injured. The force was such that the first car of the disabled train and the fifth car were fused together.

  7. That is correct. The Roosevelt Avenue IND. Mixup of May 20, 1970. This is a strange one.

A 70(GG) began having problems which became noticeable at Woodhaven Boulevard. What had occurred was brakes on car 4501 and 4500 had malfunctioned. It was decided to have the passengers leave the train and the motorman would operate the disabled train from the third car and the conductor would stand at the RFW with a flashlight to signal the motorman. All passengers left the train but one. He approached the Inspector and asked to be let off at Roosevelt Avenue.

  8. Accidents in our subway are no joke and are tragic. While our subway has an admirable record, these, likely, are the most horrific:

    1. The Malbone Street Disaster: November 1, 1918. 97 left us.Mr. Edward Luciano was the motorman, due to a strike against the B.R.T., of the ill-fated Brighton local-express which consisted of wood el cars. 2. The Times Square Switch Disaster: August 29. 1928. 16 left us. At approximately 4:55pm, a switch failed. After inspection, it was believed the switch would work by manual operation at trackside until repair crews could arrive. It did - for a Broadway Express gap train and most of a Broadway Express. Somehow the switch began to curve as car nine passed over. 3. The Union Square Switch Accident: August 29, 1991: 5 left us. Enough said. 4. The Williamsburgh Bridge Disaster: June 5, 1995:
