  1. The (QJ) ran from 168th Street-Jamaica Terminal to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue via Brighton local.

That would've been an interesting line to railfan end to end considering it was underground in subway only between Essex Street and Prospect Park.

In 1973, the (QJ) and 70(M) were switched and the 70(M) began running Middle Village-Metropolitan Avenue to Coney Island-Stillwell Avenue via Brighton local.

...can't sleep... If only the QJ still existed. A one seat ride from my mom's to my dad's. No more having to transfer and wait for that annoying (S) and the (C). The (C) takes a fortnight to come at times.

    (Q)(J)

  2. Four car R12 70(8) Third Avenue El Train leaving Tremont Avenue (M.T.A. Silver and Blue) on a nice Bronx day:

Third Avenue and 45th Street, Brooklyn in 1939 as The Great Depression ended and the Fifth Av El provided service on Fifth Avenue and Third Avenue (one block east is the 45th Street station (R) on Fourth Avenue:

  4. Amazing! When I started this thread, I didn't think it would be so popular, maybe, but here we are at page 200 and one post from post #2000.

Thank you to everyone who contributed a random thought and thank you to Harry, Zach, East New York, Y2 Julio, and Dan 05979 for allowing this thread.

  5. As of now, the R179 order is for 290 cars. There is an Option 1 for 50 additional cars, which if exercised, would total 340 of the original planned 420 R179 cars.

With 250 R179s arranged as 5 car sets (plus the 50 additional Option 1 cars), they could go on the (A)(B)(D)(R) or even (C) lines (ten car trains).

With 40 R179s arranged as 4 car sets, they could go on the (C) (J)/(Z) or (M) lines (eight car trains) or even the (G) line (four car trains).

On the (G) line, the 40 R179s arranged as 4 car sets would allow for 10 train sets; On the (C) (J)/(Z) or (M) lines, they would allow for 5 train sets.

The R32 Brightliners would see their 50th anniversary on September 9, 2014; the R46s will see their 40th anniversary in 2015; the R68/R68As not until 2026-2028.

  6. Similiar to Create your own bus route! in our MTA Bus Operations forum, create your own subway route. Assign your subway route a route bullet, describe the route, station locations and transfers, assign cars (past, present or future subway cars), and assign a yard. Most of all have fun!
