I doubt that the r42's will remain in service in 2020. ENY has a surplus of NTT'S, but I think the r42's won't be scrapped immediately after their retirement. I wouldn't be surprised if the MTA preserve some r42's as museum trains and perhaps even be used to replace the redbirds that are still running on B division garbage trains.

The museum has an R42 set saved,so i'd be suprised if they save another set.

  2.

    Whoops, thats an Error.

    Fixed:

R62A Yard Roster - BY LINE

    (1) Line: 137-145 Street / 207 Street / 240 Street Yards
    Car Numbers: 1826-1830, 1841-1900, 2156-2190, 2196-2475
    Total Number of cars: 380
Notes: 2191-2195 is currently on the (6) line in place for 7226-7230 going in for R188 conversion.

    (6) Line: Westchester Yard
    Car Numbers: 1721-1725, 1731-1735, 1741-1750, 2191-2195
    Total Number of cars: 25
Notes: More R62As to come to Westchester Yard when more R142As get converted.

    (7) Line: Corona Yard
    1651-1720, 1726-1730, 1735-1740, 1751-1825, 1831-1840, 1901-1908, 1910-1926, 1934, 1939, 1942-1944, 1947-1949, 1954, 1957-1965, 1966-2155
    Total Number of cars: 399
Notes: This yard will lose more R62As in turn for more R188s when they start service. 1651, 1656, 1661 & 1666 have half cabs. 1917-1926 were originally on the  (6), then  (1) line in 2011. 1966-2155 are linked into 5-car sets, but have half-cabs on both ends of the set.

    (S) 42 Street Shuttle: Livonia Yard (1 or 2 cars used on garbage trains, stored in 239 Street yard).
    1927, 1928, 1929, 1930, 1931, 1932, 1935, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1940, 1941, 1953, 1955, 1956
    Total Number of cars: 20
Notes: 1930 & 1936 currently at 239 St Yard for garbage train service. Some cars are linked into 3-car sets, numbers will be available in the next update.

    137-145 is just a lay-up yard,it doesn't have a maintaince shop like 207 or 240.

  3. So no chance of any remaining stored R-42s coming back? If there isn't what a waste and a shame. Are there ten left or are they done?

On the other hand, mtattrain sparked something to me, any remaining r44's on property? Any chance of any action with them? According to the roster thingy on nycsubway.org a few hand fills of them are still left.

Those R42 cars that are retired aren't coming back, same with the R44's.it's not a waste if they had to be replaced, nothing lasts forever.

  4. You guys still haven't answer my question: I need to know how much room Pitkin Avenue Yard can fit all cars assigned to the (A)(C)(S) trains if the (1) takes over 207th yard...

Pitkin isn't big enough to house all of the cars that run on the (A)(C) and Rock Pk (S).207th would still be used for storeage if it does become the

main shop for the (1) line.

  5. I heard about the change to ALSTOM too. There's that one full set of R188s on property but nobody has caught it running under its own power so we won't know for sure until that happens.

That full R188 is a converted R142A,so it may still have the Adtranz propulsion.

  6. Just a note, I only said that the (MTA) has a habit of putting R143s because they had confirm that its possible due to the reasons already mentioned by others here but never did I said that they will run those cars on the (C).

It is possible, but they've never ran any R143s on the (C) line.

  7. There are quite a few other reasons as to why IRT cant use 60 footers. Prime example is the (2) train. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I am almost certain the couldnt fit through some of those turns, especially at Central Park North.

The founder of the IRT, August Belmont, Jr. designed the tunnels so that no other private operator could use the tunnels.

  8.

I gotta go with RollOveMyHead on this one. Dante said that there is a very high possibility that R143s will go on the (C), and I can see how it works out clearly. R143s from the (L) go on the (C), R160s from the (J)(Z) go to the (L), and the R179s are left for the (A)(C)(J)(Z), and possibly the (B). That doesn't mean that R143s ain't going to the (C). DAMN. The man had a good point.

I don't see the R143's leaving the (L) line,ENY has 208 R143 cars.that isn't enough for (C) service and you would need over 300 R179 cars to cover (J)(Z) service.the (B) line won't see any new subway cars until the R68/A cars retire.

  9. There's only one trackway that leads to 207th yard from the IRT B'way/7 Av Line, so no. The 207th yard is the (C)'s home while Pitkin's home are the (A) & RPS (S)...

Just because there is one trackway from the (1) going to 207th St yard doesn't mean a thing, that yard is big enough to maintain the (1) lines subway cars alone.

  10. I could see the yard switch being TEMPORARY while 240th gets work done. Having said that, the logical thing to do would be to give the (C) NTT's, so that there will still be room for the (1).

From what i hear,it won't be temporary.207th St yard would still be used as storage for the (A)/© line subway cars.

  11. 207th street shop which provides the A/C with 222 R32s has absolutely NOTHING to do with the retirement of subway cars. IINM it isn't even the actual location cars were stripped prior to reefing. I believe all that was done by the overhaul shop, but I could be mistaken as I have not been there in many years.

The cars were stripped in the overhaul shop prior to reefing.

  12. What do you guys think will become of the car assignments on the BMT Eastern Division when the 300 R179s arrive? Also, what do think 207th Street Yard will get when the remaining 222 R32s and 50 R42s retire? Just asking based on ENY's post..

207th yard may just become the home base for the (1) line, while the (A) and (C) lines would be based out of Pitkin Yard.don't know when it's gonna happen though.

  13. Matter of fact, I won't even take any rumors you guys are hearing from other sites or people, I'd rather wait and see for myself. To me, if the MTA were to make such dumb decisions like......giving the R160s from the (Q) to the (C) in exchange for the R179s or giving the (Q)'s R160s with some R160s from the (N) to the (A) and the (C) using R46s from the (A) which results in the (Q) being 100% R179s (250 cars in service during the AM/PM Rush Hours) and the (N) being a mixed fleet of R68s and R160s, they will have serious problems making money and service. I'd rather go the easy way, retire trains on a line by the new cars you are using to replace those trains.

The ()' /> makes money no matter what subway cars run, they won't have problems there.

  14. there's been rumors, passed along by credible people, suggesting that Pitkin is in line to be home of the 179s. It wouldn't be much of an upgrade since basically almost every NTT has seen time at Pitkin.

Pitkin would need an upgrade, when NTT are testing along the Rockaways they use pitkin just to store the train there.
