The pic with the two technicians working on the R32 was taken at the St Louis Car plant in Missouri.(Note the GSI *General Steel Industries* logo on the back of their technician coats.And yeah Mix trains was the Norm due to many cars being out of service due to inadquate maintenance of the 70s and 80s.Thank Heavens for the GOH program.
that's an R38 in the picture,not an R32.

Today while i was on the shuttle to Myrtle-Wyckoff,i saw one of the old new look buses (#7585)being towed.it was on Flushing Av when i saw it.

I know they're singles but they were mismatted with R21/22's You can tell Because the R21/22 has the car # above a (NYCT) Logo. The R26-36WF Have the (NYCT) logo beside them and have a color band under the #'s or have a <> with a color. The R21/22's in this set are like I explained.
As MC CJ said,none of the R21/R22 were ever painted in the redbird paint scheme while in revenue service.

Yes that one did anyone notice it was Mismatted.
The picture shows R17's,they arn't mismated or anything.the R17 are single unit cars,they're not married pairs.

Apples to oranges my friend. The R62s and R68s are around 25 years old while the R32s are nearly 50. Plus, the R32s only saving grace is its stainless steel design.
The R62 are 28 to 30 years old,the R62A are 24 to 27 years old.the R68 are 23 to 25 years old,The R68A are still young at 23 to 24 years old.

There is only eight left in existence. 4280-4281 are saved for preservation and their are six others being used as school cars. One pair is at the East New York yard, another pair is at Concourse, and finally a pair at the Rockaway Park yard.
ENY doesn't have an R40 slant,that set went to another yard or was scrapped.

All this talk of 60 or 75 footers, isn't there a small possiblity that the R179's could be 67 footers? They can be used on the and with special modification. If I remember correctly, BMT Standards were 67 Ft., but they had special traction motors and trucks to allow them pass through the curves of the Myrtle/Canarsie lines.
Even though the A/B Standards were 67 ft long,i don't think they had any special motors or trucks to run along the BMT eastern division.

It actually is an R17. One of the R17s painted red before being retired. The cars in front of the R17 are either R26-33s. I don't think any cars in the redbird fleet had their number plates lowered. Me and the Webmaster were talking about this and he did in fact say it had to be and R17 so he changed it.
The picture was taken in 1987,by that time most of the R17 were retired.a few of the cars were even painted in fox red.were they all retired in 1987 or 1988?

How about some brand new R12s from the company called ACF and a Redbirds on the 5 line. Could somebody confirm if the third pic is either an R26-29 car that received an R17 storm door or is it one of the rare 16 R17s that were painted in the redbird paint scheme before being retired in two months from the date the picture was taken? Thank you.
The 3rd picture is an R26-R29 with an R17 storm door.
