  1. To those who rode 1240, 4268, 7342, or any other bus with the new screens, what was your experience on them? Do they have automated announcements working? We're there any glitches on the screens?

The screens work perfectly fine. It tracks your bus in real time on the screen with a map overlay.
  2. Are there employees watching the train or its there unattended like a regular layup train?

Shocked they left it there all night, thought they could at least towed the train up to 207th in the overnight hours,

The train is still there. The brakes locked up on one of the cars yesterday, so they split the train and ran it as a 5 car set.

That was a disaster because of the overcrowding, so they cancelled the entire thing. They've been working around the clock to get the problematic car working to limp up to 207 so it can be ready in time for next weekend.

Only thing I can suggest it's to keep an eye on the MTA site and Facebook page during the week for updates.

  3. since that is not viable, we could try extending the (Z) and having it terminate at Sands St rather than Broad St. during rush hours only the (Z) would run to Jamaica Center (and skip stop)but all other times it would run as a local and terminate at Cypress Hills or Malcolm X Blvd

The (Z) is not it's own line, it's nothing more than extra (J) trains.
  4. So, correct me if I'm wrong, the R179 still needs to test 4th Avenue, Nassau St, Myrtle Av, 14th St-Canarsie and Jamaica lines and the Chrysite Street Cut?

In a nutshell. I mean after seeing footage of it on the Franklin Shuttle (of all places lol), one would assume they're doing every single B division area.

...come to think of it, the train hasn't touched the Rockaways either. The furthest it went was Broad Channel. Or the Lefferts branch.

  5. As I said, anything BUT an RTS. Trust me, I know the depots inside out.

    That sounds a little stalker-ish

    Besides, can MCH handle RTS?

They are just using NG and Artics for M35.

They can, any depot can handle the RTS. They literally throw whatever's lying around on that line.

^^^ Lol @ this guy, he will always find the chance to get you no matter what.

As far as lupojohn's comment about the M35, well what do you expect when there is no RTS's at Hale in service. Also, I believe that, it's best to leave the better running buses off it.

And that's exactly what they do lol. Rode that line for the first time the other night (I knew the operator, he picked it up for OT and I was already in the area), and he was telling me that they really don't care about that line. His bus had a busted artic joint (every time it bent a certain way, the sensor kicked in and thinks the bus is turning and cuts the throttle power), and the other bus had a busted sign.

Not like it matters out there, no one really pays lol.

  6. I noticed the other day that the Fulton St line has Transit Wireless Wifi now. I'm not sure how far "south" it goes, maybe to Grant Ave but I know it works at Utica Ave and stations "north".

Broadway Junction and Euclid Av for a fact has it activated. Not sure about the intermediate stations
  7. Can someone explain to me why the southern terminal on the M7 ends on an avenue it never uses at any point during the route?

The last/first stop is on 6 Av and 14 St, behind the M5 stop. Going uptown, the M7 uses 6 Av all the way to 59 St/Central Park South.

So I happened to see a Next Gen (from Gun Hill) on the M103...

    Loaners
  8. See, this is what I'd prefer too, but people keep hating on the Nassau Street Line. ;)

The Montague Tunnel is underused so let's use more of it! If Bay Parkway doesn't want it, then Bay Ridge does!

The (J) did go to 95 St after 9/11. With (Z) service suspended and the line being all local (and the (M) going to Coney Island via Sea Beach), the (J) became the longest local in the system. Reliability along the line tanked and (R) service was reinstated about a month layer.
  9. They got multicolored signs, just not updated.

Either that, or they're trying to prevent another controversy with the flashing blue signs. Those islanders are the reason the blue beacons are gone.

Well to be fair, they were right with the flashing blue lights. It was one of those things no one really cared about, so they got away with it.

Blue flashing lights are reserved for emergency vehicles.

  10. Orion VII NG's actually does have flashing blue signs I thought they didn't have. Do most other bus models have those signs also?

The NGs that the 79 uses (except for 4019) has the newer Luminator Spectrum multicolored sign...the same sign in (except the LGA batch) the 7000s XD40s

I've got to check again, but I thought the S79 did have some sort of coloring on the sign itself that distinguishes it from the regular local/limited buses.

I'm an "islander" and while I don't like the flashing blue signs (too strong, and I'd be worried about people who are prone to seizures), I do like the signs with the blue background that they're using now.

Nope, just how the sign color looks. See above.
  11. Where do most B15 riders to the airport originate? Are there any who ride the entire route to the (J)(M) trains at Flushing Avenue?

That's just suicide. On a good day, the line end to end is about 90 minutes. You're better off taking the (L) or the (3) to New Lots and catching it from there.

From what I observed over the years (I live along the line), the major turnover points are the train stations mentioned above, Church Av (that's a heavy one there), Pennsylvania Av (the 20/83 crowds), and along Linden Blvd.

It's pretty rare those are used. Definitely know about Drew Street. But no short turns on the other end of the route?

Unfortunately none. The AirTran short turn I've seen used quite often, and there's even a code for it that says "AIRTRAN STA"
  12.

B15 is plagued with delays and that there is no short turns along that line. This particular line can run frequent, and most of the route is a straight route to and from the airport.

Sure there is. Other than the obvious Drew St, there's the Lefferts Blvd AirTran station, and Pennsylvania Av on occasion.

  13. So far, it's been on IND lines like the (A), (B) / (D), (E), (F), and (G). Basically, the entire IND minus the (C). Progress is going nice so far. Not long till we see one on the rest of the BMT lines besides the (Q) and Franklin Ave (S). Probably testing on Broadway/Downtown Brooklyn is next.

By default, the (A) and (C) were the first ones because of Pitkin and 207 yards respectively.
  14. 8 was once proposed to replace the <6>, its on roll signs as a green circle. (11) was also at that time proposed to replace <7>, and (10) was proposed to replace <5>. I think the R62/A roll signs go up to 13 IIRC.

    It does.

-8 is green. The <6> replacement.

-9 is red. We all know about that lol.

    -10 is green. Something of a <4> replacement/proposal.

-11 is purple. Obvious <7> replacement.

    -12 is green. I think that would've been a <5> replacement/proposal.

-13 is red. Same thing as the 12, but via 7 Av instead of Lex.

There was rumors of some signs having a number 14, but it was never confirmed.
