  1.

This is a rather good plan, and I would be willing to abandon Harlem-148th. A new 145th Street station that would be 10 cars long would be built. The northern end would be around 147th or 148th Street. The new tunnel under the Harlem would allow 3 service to get onto the Jerome Avenue Line, DOUBLING the TPH on the line.

That tunnel would have one steep ass grade, that area is more or less at sea level

  2. The best way to find out is the Wikipedia page. Their info is pretty accurate.

That's the LAST place you rely on information from since it's easy editable.

I can change it and say the 179s will have a propulsion powered by pizza hungry subway rats.

  3.

I saw it once when I was waiting at Euclid for the next (A) train.

If I do see it again, why not?

What I saw: circa November 2016, on the uptown EXP track

The side displays are crisper, less bold text, and the lighting is at least 7500K (very blue). The technicians were on board with laptops and measuring equipment. The holding poles are the bulge in middle type.

Is it fair to assert some R68 cars could also be replaced?

    The R32 "Detroit's" are fifty [emoji69] , but how old are the R68s? Thirty, thirty-five? [emoji53]

Sometimes I notice that the NYCT pairs two different five car sets, because the lighting isn't the same.

Question: can an R160 Alstom 5 car be linked to a Bombardier R160 5 car without issue?

    You mean an Alstom 160 (160A) to a Kawaski 160 (160B)?

The Alstom propulsion 160Bs are always mixed with the Alstom 160As, nothing different between them other than who built it.

Once in a while you'll find a Siemens propulsion 160B paired with a Alstom propulsion 160B or 160A, but it can happen at random.

  4. The blizzard tomorrow manages to dump a ton of snow into some underground stations including:

    • 23 Street (A)(E) (on local tracks)
    • Prince Street, 49 Street (N)(Q)(R) (on local tracks)
    • Canal Street, Spring Street, Bleecker Street, Astor Place, 23 Street, 28 Street, 33 Street (4)(6)
    • 110 Street, 116 Street, 125 Street, 135 Street (2)(3)
I'll just say get the snow blowers/plow trains and clear it out. Expect heavy delays.

    Simple.

  5.

A (F) train stalls over the switch at West 4th Street on the southbound track, causing service to back up.

Another (G) train stalls over the switch at Court Square, severely backing up service in both directions.

A train went BIE in the Queensboro tubes, also backing up service along Broadway.

It's the middle of rush hour what do you do?

    (F) via 8 Av/53 St/Cranberry to Jay St

    (G) Nassau Av to Church Av

    (M) Metropolitan Av to Chambers St, whatever trains caught in the mess gets sent to Jay St via 8 Av/53 St/ Cranberry to Jay St, otherwise suspend it

    (N) 96 St to Coney Island, Queensboro Plz to Ditmars

    (R) via 63 St

    (W) suspended

  6.

During the Saint Patrick's day parade and everybody is going home, power suddenly is lost to the CPW line from 59th Street to 145th Street. At the same time, a transformer fails along 6th Avenue, knocking out service between West 4th Street and Grand St/2 Avenue.

    What do you do?

    Take an Uber lol

    (A) 207 St to 168 St, Chambers St to Lefferts/Far Rockaway via Fulton local

    (B) Suspended

    (C) Suspended

    (D) 205 St to 161 St, Atlantic-Barclays to Coney Island

    (E) normal...ironically lol

    (F) 179 St to WTC, York St to Coney Island, some trans via Crosstown

    (M) Metropolitan Av to Chambers St

    (N) via Sea Beach local

  7. Yea last time I went to check the MJQ depot it was only like one floor and I didn't see if there were more floors.

I agree maybe the roof of the MJQ depot should be used for employee parking space just like Manhattanville does with its roof.

    Basement: Employee parking

    Ground floor: wash bays/parking

    2nd floor: mechanic area

Roof: more parking/midday express bus storage

  8. Give it a rest....

The hipsters & other riders of the (L) train simply won't consider the B39 & any extension of it - or any other bus carrying riders between areas that the (L) serves, and a part of Manhattan the masses that even take the L are not trying to get to.....

The L train from Brooklyn to Manhattan is a transfer line enough as it is, and you want to have those riders take buses running on half-hourly headways over the Williamsburg bridge......

    ==================================

If anything that (L) > (G) > (7) commute is gonna be the norm; or as it's infamously called around these parts, the 3 borough commute

(that is, for those that aren't crying about literally moving out of their homes closets because a subway line is going to be knocked out... JFC, such babies)

The Canarsie folks that need Manhattan... Well, let's just say I wan't no part of being anywhere around Utica/Eastern Parkway.... It's going to end up being a bigger shitstorm than it is now....

Ironically the (L) > (G) > (7) is my way to work lol

I'm not going into Manhattan only to come back out on the M60

  9. Woah. R62a #2056 has speakers on the side of it. Only that car tho. Rest of the train didn't have any. I was waiting at grand central and I was like where's that coming from cuz there were no other trains except a Uptown R62A (6) sitting in the station.

2009 also has exterior speakers. The whole fleet was supposed to get them fitted on, but for sone reason they stopped after a handful of cars
