  1. Fighting? Who's fighting? Also I don't feel against anyone else, that's funny if you think so. I don't feel a subject should be dropped because others dont agree, what a boring world with no information that would be. I'm not on one side or the other, I'm on the I'd like to know side. I simply sent an email to Jack Khzouz asking about bus ownership because there was so much debate but no clear answer. I got what was a clear answer, but that's not the end of it people say the (MTA) still owns the buses. Ok, so I sent another email and got a pretty clear answer (posted in the "Bus Ownership" thread) "the MTA has no stake" in buses or property. One could be a devils advocate and say that's wrong because the MTA owns the buses.

I could care less who owns the buses I just provided information, if others feel so strongly that info I was provided was wrong, please provide your information for the forum. Or email Jack Khzouz and tell him his information is wrong, I'd love to see the reply posted here. ;)

Again I'm not on any side, against anyone, or fighting with anyone because they have an opinion, but I'm not just going to drop a subject because others disagree. I hope that's not what is expected in this forum.

  2. As again, I've said it over and over again, I don't want this to be turned into KSR vs BST & MAC, a Long Island VG8 vs CMC episode... People complained, I listened, and read my previous posts, your answers should be all in them...

If you read my post you would have seen I said I'm not at home and only have my phone to respond. I woulda quoted these and posted them in the other thread but that would take a lot of time on my phone that I don't really have. Like I said, I hope will move all of the off topic posts.

...and as far as you answering my questions, you still haven't answered how if their is a lease how the (MTA) could take the buses back on a whim if Veolia didn't break any of the terms of the lease? Also, you haven't posted any proof of how the buses are (MTA) owned, I posted the email, Kack (I forget his last. and off hand) sent me saying the buses are owned by the county.

    Thanks

  3. Well, it's the (MTA)'s busses, so they can take them back anytime, even though it should be used in Nassau County, however since the (MTA) is no longer operating Long Island Bus, the (MTA) has the right and room to take the busses as their own.

Also, painting could be permanent and against the said lease contract on the (MTA) Busses, being Orion VII #1760-1839, so the (MTA) could instantly just take them back or charge Nassau/Veolia to buy the busses from them.

If Veolia hasn't violated any terms of the lease how in the world do you think the (MTA) can just take back the buses on a whim?

Also I know some people have been told by reliable people with the (MTA) about the lease? Can you provide more details? I posted the email Veolia sent me about Nassau owning the buses/property...

  4. I'm pretty sure if they were paid by a grant from the Government that says that they can only be used in Nassau then the MTA can't take them back when ever they want, unless the MTA has the money to pay back the government.

Exactly, the funds were for buses to be used in Nassau County, not for the (MTA) to use in Long Island. BIG difference. Funding was given for buses to be used in Nassau County, not to expand the (MTA) fleet.

I was gonna quote these posts and post them in the "bus ownership" thread but I'm outa town for a few days, didn't bring my laptop so I only have my phone. ;) Maybe a mod will move all of these posts into another thread.

  5. the (MTA) might just say screw it and take the busses away from Nassau County.

    Really?

Beside the fact these buses were bought with the funds knowing the buses were to be used in Nassau County...

If Veolia entered into contract to lease these buses to Veolia (or Nassau County, whatever the aragement is) how could the (MTA) just say screw it, and take back the buses unless Nassau/Veolia violated part of the contract?

  6. Well, according to my sources, [and unnamed Orion and (MTA) reps], 1760-1839 is paid for by Tiger Grants to (MTA)'s Long Island Bus Operations, thus the bus are owned by the (MTA) and stored in the (MTA) owned Mitchel Field Bus Depot.

Well, still, they are owned by the (MTA), painting the busses is like a person painting a car on lease from the car dealership. So Nassau and Veolia has to [probably] pay the damages and/or buy the busses and Mitchel Field Depot from the (MTA). This is why if you look closely, the (MTA) Long Island Bus and Bus Depot Stickers are fully intact but covered up on the 1800-1839, and maybe 1760-1799.

As again mentioned above, it's like damaging another party's property. Also, the (MTA) might just say screw it and take the busses away from Nassau County.

This is why 1760 thru 1839 is wrapped instead of painted, and that is why 1700-1759 is painted.

Right, and according to other sources since the grants were used to buy buses to be used in Nassau County, as far as the government is concerned these buses are to be used in Nassau County. SO, if the buses are assumed to be used in the Nassau County throughout their lifetime, what's the problem with painting them? If I leased a white bus, I'd have every right to paint it as long as I returned it it's original white color when I turned the bus back back in to the owner. If these buses are assumed to be used in Nassau County for their lifetime, Nassau/Veolia would never have to restore the bus to it's orginal condition, because the bus would stay where it is for the remainder of it's lifetime. No?

  7. While not trying to get back on this topic, I do have a question tat spawns off it.

Jack Khzouz has said the buses and properties are owned by Nassau County. He has been very informative to all of us here so I think he would need to lie or mislead anyone,IO also don't believe he would be mistaken about a subject this big, or at least find out before answering. Maybe someone can email him and ask specifically. truthfully I don't care anymore I thought I was helping when I emailed him and emailed me back a clear answer.

Nassau Owned Bus, so they can paint it instead of wrapping it. MTA owns the 1800's and IIRC 1769-1799 as well, so painting em' won't please the MTA.

Anyway, for the sake of argument let's say the (MTA) owns them... Is it assumed they are to be used the rest life in Nassau County? If so what's the problem with painting them?

  8. The JFK Airport Bus from Nassau didn't work out well before, very low ridership, I assume people prefer to use the cabs more, or LIRR -> Airtrain, or LIRR -> (MTA) Regional Bus.

I can see JFK, LIRR to the airtrain is simple and affordable. It would be nice to have a bus going to the terminals instead of having to walk from the airtrain, also during peak hours it sucks having to get on the LIRR when it is packed carry around all of your luggage.

I try to avoid LGA because I have to take supershuttle, and it costs about $50 plus tips, cabs are a lot more money. You can't say supershuttle is faster than a bus because the last time I took Supershuttle to LGA they picked me up (like a half hour early so I had to rush around bc I wasn't ready yet), drove me all the way to commack, picked up some guy and then drove us to LGA. Not to mention I was dropped off an hour and 45 minutes before a 6(something) flight so there a lot of sitting around.

Sure people splurge when they are going on vacation, but in this economy don't you think people would want to save the extra $50 to $100 bucks and spend it something on their vacation? There are also a lot of people on LI who travel for work/business...

I think there could be a good market for express bus service from certain LIRR stations to LGA with comfoprtable seats and a place to store bags under the coach (or on racks in the bus like parking lot shuttles) if there was a good ad campaign making people aware of the service.

  9. if you want new ridership how bout going to Old Bethpage rd and then down sweet hollow road where there is a bunch of business there. as of now only one bus is over there with the suffolk clipper which no one takes. Then have the 79/74 have it go WWM Newsday or Airport plaza.

How about express airport service from Nassau County to JFK & LGA?

  10. Yeah, the (MTA) would of done better, if Nassau would pay up, but we can't do anything. All we gotta hope for is NICE will not become a major problem.

I keep on hearing that (MTA) LIB would have been alright if Nassau paid their fair share? What's the fair share of a bloated budget? Yea Nassau is going to have to pay, maybe not what it likes, (and they might not even have the money to pay what the system needs to run as it has, times are tough, all over the world. But is Nassau paying the (MTA) what they feel is fair to operate a skeleton system on a bloated budget really fair to the county, the riders, or the tax payers?
