Hey first time posting here. I have been trying to keep
Up with the feed. Was looking for some information on the different shifts offered for S/A. What hours do they usually run by? Also what would the training hours be like? I went to 180 last week 10/21 to start preemployment. I'm waiting on the next steps.
Booth hours vary quite a bit. Some booth hours start as early as 4:30am and as late as 9:00am. But majority of booth start times range from 6-8am for the tour, 2-4pm for the pm tour and 10pm-12am for the night tour. And training while in class is 8am to 4pm Monday through Friday. Ok some days you may be required to report to class earlier or later. The instructors will give you a class schedule, so you'll know exactly when and where to show up for duty.

Yeah well you can't talk about unfair. Those folks had to wait four years to even get test results. They were originally told they would never get hire, especially after the 2010 lay offs of agents. Then when they did get called many had to become cleaners instead of the job they tested for. So they've really been put through the blended. Best advice I can give you is keep taking other exams and stay patient.

Station Agent List 8011 from 2008 Extended | Civil Service Exams | thechiefleader.com
Looks like by the time they get to list 6600 it won't be much jobs left for us. They keep extending the 2008 exam. This really sucks.
They'll still be jobs. There was recently a stations supervisor promotional exam, as well as other promotional exams open to station agents. So they'll be quite a few people moving on to other titles. Only reason I'd assume they extended the list is because there's still plenty of people who took that test and got hired as cleaners, and have yet to even get a chance to be called for the agents job yet.

But I can assure they've been hiring a class or two every month for a while now. I can see on the department daily notices what hirings are done everyday.

I'd assume the temporary position would also have a probationary period. But honestly I've never heard of a temp title so I'm not 100%. If goes well Blue you could hear something in 2 weeks or less.

that's something new......they are up to something ....
Hey Vee long time no see. How's everything been? Are you still a C/R ? Any plans to move up if so?

Hi,
I also received a letter today 10/17, to report this Friday 10/21. MTA new York City is considering you for a temporary position as a Station Agent AFC 01-f. Anyone else received the letter? Does it say temporary position on your letter as well? Not sure if I would even get hired, but the word temporary scares me. Anyone know what it means by temporary? I'm afraid to quit my full time job, to just get a temporary position for a few months.
Thanks[/quote
Wow temporary? Can't say I've ever heard of this before in my time down here. Even the title name is different Station Agent AFC 01-F. Usually it's just Station Agent AFC. I'd inquire about this when you go down there. And get rock solid answers before giving up your full time permanent job.

My first post here is to let everyone know that I received a letter from the MTA on Saturday advising me to come in this Thursday @ 7:30 to begin the pre-employment process for Station Agent. I only got 2 questions wrong based on the proposed answer grid for 6600. My list position is in the top 20.
I've lurked here for a while, and appreciate the depth of information shared, so I don't have many questions at this point. Mostly, I'm surprised the MTA site hasn't been updated with a final answer key for this test as of yet.
I'm concerned about my ability to have input in my schedule out of training. I've read how with C/R's you sometimes can pick the division you work in based on list #. For SA, is there a possibility I can choose between AM/PM tours or is there never any choice in the process starting out?
On the paper it says the title is Station Agent AFC 01-F. Does anyone know what the "01-F" part refers to?
The day before I received this letter, I was booked for an 11:30am interview for an NY Courts position for the same day. With SA's process only seeming to be the initial drug test, do you think it's possible I can make both appointments?
Thanks
Congrats on getting called. I can answer a few questions for you. First you will not be able to pick between AM/PM tours just coming out of class. You will have an in class pick with what open jobs are available at the time. Pickings are very slim for new agents, but best believe you will be working the busiest locations in system being new, everyone has to earn their stripes.
The "01-F" I have no idea what that means. The Tile since 1999 has been only Station Agent AFC. Being as to the title over the next few years could have something to do with it.
And as far the Courts interview that day may be hard to make, but not impossible. You're only going to be there the first day for drug screening. They'll give you a 20 page application to fill out and get back to you if your drug test comes back clean. So you could get out by 10:30am if everything goes quickly. The only issue is that they usually call people for other titles as well the same day. So that could slow up your process. My advice would be to try and either reschedule the MTA appointment or Courts appointment. It's not likely to get both done in one day.

I'm confused, aren't they supposed to send everyone's scores and make the list public before they start calling names?
TA has been doing a lot of provisional hiring as of lately. I think this what they're doing with S/A title right now. Calling people before they establish a list. They've been doing it with promotional titles as of late, as well.

Has anyone gotten a letter stating they were disqualifed ??
Anyone deemed not qualified would've gotten a letter most likely before taking the exam. You have to pass a Education and Experience test before being allowed to take the exam.

DCAS no longer administers the test for transit. Transit does the testing themselves. Contact transit. BTW they are really slow in grading exams. i guess when they need people they will start scoring it.
That may be true Vee, but DCAS still handles the certifications of the lists.

Did anyone receive their results for SA #6600?
My lady took it at Brooklyn Tech on Sunday, 12/13/15 (AM).
We contacted DCAS but there's no record of her SSN on file, so we spoke with an representative who couldn't find anything on 6600, and said we probably have to call MTA directly.
Any ideas?
That's pretty strange that they wouldn't have any information on the exam. But yeah I'd call up TA human resources about this matter.

There's no way to know that information, unless you work in the department that handles testing. The only number you need be concerned with is how many people's names are on the established list. But if I had to guess a number more than 6-7K. Could be higher. I remember when I took the exam in 2004 they administered the exam at one high school in each borough. And there had to be at least 2-3K people lined up.

When u take the station agent exam do they ask if you have the reuired customer experience? can you take the test if you don't have the customer service experience?
When this exam was given by DCAS you had to complete an education and experience exam before they'd allow you to take written exam. I'm not sure if TA does the same. But one things for sure if you don't have the required experience you will not be refunded your money.

Because it's a very customer service intensive title. Plus you're completely responsible for everything that happens on that station and everything in the booth. You're basically the supervisor of that station until the station supervisor arrives. And they get enough applicants for the job for its needs.

I missed one question on the exam, and I starred it because I knew there could be an issue with it by how it was worded. I never contested it though. Has anyone heard anything yet?
They should be calling you guys very soon. The current S/A is set to close by the end of July. So maybe by fall or winter they should start calling from the list.

Yeah that's pretty much what they do. If the title has no vacancies for a while they'll ask if you want to be a Cleaner for the time being.

I'm taking it too but I rather SA because of the hours are more stable. C/R hours while on extra extra is crazy. No set days off and rotating shifts. Also once I get my baby sitting straight I read somewhere SA can promote to T/O if they take some type of certification course within the MTA. So I definitely will be looking into that
S/A hours while steady, still has it's issues. Like there's no guarantee you go home on time or don't get stuck into a double. Yuo cannot leave that booth until you're relieved. So you'll have to make sure you have a sitter that's understanding and flexible. And yes S/A's can promote to T/O by taking a course. IMHO it's ridiculous that someone can take an O/C exam off the street and get hired into the job. But current employees must take a course to promote into the title.

I took the exam in nov. according to my answer sheet i scored 90% .i am ex military which gives me 5% and disabled military 5%. so this gives me 100%. does anyone know if this will enable me to be hired within the next two years? the last time i took the conductor i got 95% but didn't take the job when they came ah callin. Sad day for me because the economy died soon after. Long story, worst year of my life. I will take the conductor exam in april also. i hope to do better on the next exam. good luck everybody and i hope you can answer my question.
its on their website. thats how i got my info
Yes you'll get called very soon after they start hiring from the list.

They made the exam much harder than it used to be. When I took the exam in 2004 it was 80 questions. No trick questions, and no time consuming questions. It may be a while before you folks are called, as they're still hiring from the 2008 exam. Some of you may get offers to be cleaners in the mean time before they reach your list number to be hired as an S/A. The job has it's challenges, and pays well. My advice would be to take as many promo exams as you can, because by 2020-2023 the job is going to radically change. I did the job for 9 years, and took the promotion to Supervisor. I have another 20 years left on the job, so it was a no brainier. Especially since these changes are on the horizon. But good luck to all whom took the exam. See you in the near future.

anyone know the answer? cause the customer service requirement was hyped up..
If it's not on the Notice of Examination, then it's not a requirement. The only title that requires 2 years cutomer service experience is the Station Agent exam.

Hi all,
My name is Abel and this is my first time taking an open competitive exam.
I actually have a Train Operator passbook (had it since i was 16). I know, i really have a passion for this career. Anyways, i have glanced at it many times and found some really resourceful things on what to expect when entering the field, including the reading comprehension. Over the years i've scored from about 82-100%. I think my last practice exam was back to a 92%. It had some very bizarre questions regarding quarts, pints, and measurements that porters use and i honestly don't do that well when it comes to conversions.
Here are some questions i have:
1) Should i expect to find math problems, (such as the one i mentioned) on the test? Or any math questions at all?
2) How long would it take to receive my score? What comes afterwards? Is the hiring process a long wait?
3) I have done community service for about a Year (2013-2014), my current job is a seasonal temp at 1199, and as of now, as a reward for my hard work and dedication, my supervisor recommended me for another job as a transport for patients. I am also going to college full time. Will this be good enough experience for the TA to even consider me for Train Operator? Will my rank be good enough to even be eligible?
I do not mean to Bombard any of you with questions. I have looked at some links with detailed descriptions regarding my questions and concerns, but if anyone here could answer them in the simplest way possible, I would appreciate that. Something to take a quick glance at least. I just simply do not have the time on my plate to look at long descriptions, but i am very serious about what I want, and will do anything I can to be successful. Thank You and god bless to anyone who can help me.
Regards,
Abel
There won't be a single tricky math question on the exam guarenteed!! To qualify for T/O you need at least five years work experience, with one full year being at one employer. college years can subsitute for work. But you need all of this by the date of the exam. If you don't have a combined 5 years work, school anbd one full year at one job, don;t apply because they'll disqualify you. My cousin took the exam right outta highschool and they disqualified him. But if you have the minimum requirements go for it. Score at least and 94% and you'll get called.
I've taken the liberty of posting the minimum requirements of the last exam in 2009. Even thought this exam was given by DCAS, I wouldn't expect the TA administered exam to require anything less or be exactly the same.
HOW TO QUALIFY:Education and Experience Requirements:By thelast day of the Application Periodyou must have:1. A four year high school diploma or its educationalequivalent, approved by a State’sDepartment of Education or a recognized accrediting organization; and2. Five years of full-time, paidsatisfactory work experience.College education may besubstituted for experience on the following basis: One year of acceptableexperience will be credited for each30 credits completed at an accredited college, up to a maximumof four years. However, all candidates must have at least one yearof full-time satisfactory, paid workexperience. Part-time paidexperience will be pro-rated.You will be given the multiple-choice testbefore your qualifications are reviewed. You are responsible fordetermining whether or not you meetthe qualification requirements for thisexamination prior to submitting yourapplication. If you are found “Not Qualified,” at the time ofappointment your application fee will not be refunded.REQUIREMENTS TO BE APPOINTED:Medical Requirement:Medical guidelines have been established for the position of Train Operator. You will be examined to determine whether you canperform the essential functions of the position ofTrain Operator. Where appropriate, a reasonable accommodation will be provided for a person witha disability to enable him or her totake the examination, and/or toperform the essential functions ofthe job.Drug Screening Requirement:You must pass a drug screening in order to be appointed.Residency:City residency is notrequired for this position.English Requirement:You must be able to understand and be understood in English.Proof of Identity:Under the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986,you must be able to proveyour identity and your right to obtain employment in the United Statesprior to employment with theCity of New York

So I've spent many hours today searching for an answer, so I thought I would ask.
I plan on signing up and possibly taking both exams coming up (Fall and Winter signup). I won't get into specifics, but I want to do everything I can to score very well.
I was at a bookstore the other day and decided to pick up a general Civil Service study guide. I opened it up and took some practice exams, they were not easy. My math skills are strong, however, I wouldn't consider myself a grammar expert. I didn't score all that well on the grammar usage section.
I had my wife, who is a Harvard Law Grad and is currently a contract attorney, take a look. She didn't score as bad as me, but she did get some wrong and mentioned the tests were very difficult. A sample question that I found quite hard is :
Select the sentence that represents the best example of English grammar:
A .In Europe, scientists have found that the drastic changes in weather is in direct correlation to the increase in car use.
B .The Magic Castle in Hollywood have been declared a historic landmark by the City of Los Angeles.
C .There is a water shortage therefore waiters should only serve water to patrons on request instead of bringing water glasses to everyone at every table.
D. After years of serving the community, the local library will be shut down due to lack of funds.
I also found some spelling sections difficult as well.
Before I go overboard and spend time studying material that isn't relevant to the exams, I want to ask what should I expect on these tests? I've read those Passbooks are a waste of money, and a good resource for the Bus Operator test is a DMV study guide.
Do the type of questions I mentioned above exist on the test? Also, do they have spelling/grammar sections? What kind of math questions (multiplying fractions?). What kind of questions and topics should I look into? I've read that the exam is very easy and is basic math and trip situation questions. Can anyone confirm this?
If I'm going to give these exams a shot, I want to do everything humanly possible to do well.
Thanks!
The exams aren't difficult at all, especially the Conductor's exam, so don't beat yourself up over them. Those study guides won't help you very much since they're just test and give you no reason why the answers are correct or incorrect. Just on the day of the exams read everything careflly, use all the test time allowed and review all your answers before leaving the test site.

Legally as long as an agency hires one person from a civil service list they've done what is required of them. Sounds shitty, but it's civil service law. Some titles just hire much slower than others. My wife waited four years to be called for property protection agent with a list number of 188. It all depends on how many people work in said title. Good luck and hopefully you get in before the list expires.

Just completed my 1 year probation as a traffic checker last week on October 22nd!
Congrats...it's been quite a year I bet! ...I'm 6 in as a checker myself.
Congrats to both of you guys. Are either of you going to apply to promote to the CTA title?

Station Agent 6600 Hiring Process
in Transit Employment
Posted
It all depends on how fast they can verify your background info, how soon they want to fill up a class, the departments budget, if your urine checks out. Too many variables to give a solid answer. When I got hired in 2006 it only took them 5 days to hire me from the day I got called for pre-employment. Some folks had to come down there several times and give urine multiple times. Hopefully you get called sooner than later. I'd give it two weeks to a month to hear something at the minimum.
