  1. They obviously made a mistake, either way if the exam is on March 23rd or on April 6th of next yearwe will be notified 10 days in advance. I never heard of a promo and open competitive exam being heldon the same day.

Not true. DCAS always did promo and open competitive exams on the same day. When I took promo C/R exam in 2008 my wife was taking the O/C exam. Samething for the T/O exam the following year.

  2. I checked my answers, and I calculated that I got a 94. Not bad at all. Three questions wrong. Good luck to anyone else.

You should be a shoe in then. This is not one of the more popular MTA exams (i.e. C/R, T/O and B/O exams), so a score a 94 is fantastic. I scored that on my S/A exam back in 2004 and had a list number in the mid 300's.

  3. Have those who signed up for this exam received their letters yet? It's nearing the November 7th test date.

And do they let you know if you weren't selected? (What's up with this lottery crap anyway, MTA?)

They contact you. Usually, well when DCAs handled the exams they would send the notice of examination at the latest 4 days before the exam. If you didn't hear anything on that thursday before the exam, you had to go downtown to get a notice of examination card. Since the MTA is handling their own exams I have no idea how things are going to work. But in any case give 180 livingston a call three days before the exam if you don't hear anything.

  4. O ok so when u have a steady station for a week let me know bro.

Nah 5 days jobs are over for me. I worked 2 five day booths and hated them both. People like to get too familiar with you when they see you on a daily basis. And anyway with RDO's I will be working the same job once a week on a certain day or 2 times a week. I'm not sure whether I want to work 2 nights one place followed by another 2 nights then 1 night somewhere else. Or just work 5 different places every night of the week. But either way I have to wait til then to see what's up on the board for me to pick.

  5. Congrats Bro.. I just came to Gunhill also.. I like it so far, but I live in Brooklyn so the commute sucks.

Unless you are on the extra list, you won't see the good routes.. More than likely, you will be on/able to pick the BX12, BX5,BX4,BX40,BX42,BX39..

Yeah and each one of those lines are crap LOL. The Bx39 might have been okay before TA extended it to Wakefield. But the Bx12 is self explanatory and the rest are all concentrated in the South Bronx mostly. They all end their routes in Throggs Neck or Pelham Bay, but the majority of your riders will be boarding at the other end of the lines.

  6. thanks, last yr i was layed off from wrkg for COACH USA for 5yrs, in 2009 i found out i was diabetic, dot took me off the road my a1c was 13 so i no what ur saying just hav to get clearance letter frm doc before mta medical

Whoa! 13???, that pretty high. I'm sure you've got it much lower than that now. I usually float around 8 or 9. But when I was first diagnosed I was pretty high too. I was around 17, the doctor's where looking at me like how am I still walking and talking and not in a coma. But once you get clearance from your doctor you will be cool. Just be prepared to be going to transits clinics very often.

  7. You could have taken the C/R job and then be promoted to T/O or was there something else in mind?

I know, but I never wanted to do the C/R job, I was never interested in it. I took the exam because it was the only promo exam available at that time. And I believe in taking all promo exams I qualify for. I was laid off at the time they sent me the notice for pre employment and they sent me my reinstatement letter as well. So I pursued it just to get back into the (MTA). But once I got my old job back I changed my mind.

  8. thanks for that info iam a little nervous because i hav type 2 diabetes and bp both under control on meds but i heard oa dosent take to kindly to this

Just make sure your a1c level is 7 or below. They may put you a medical hold so that you can take their form to your doctor to clear you. And make sure you have your bp under control as well. I too am type 2 diabetic, and was put on medical hold for a C/R promotion. I got clearance from my doctor, but decided that the C/R job wasn't for me. I will pursue the T/O job when it comes out again.

  9. Thanks for the tip, the plague, well that sounds pretty bad. i'll make sure to stay away from that. yeah i did get an answer, I sent u a message.

Yeah cuz the bx12 goes through the ass end of the Bronx Fordham road. It goes down Pelham which is nice but in the summer months it goes out to Orchard beach, and your gonna be dealing with loud crowded buses full of people that smell of nasty beach water and beer, blasting loud music.

  10. Now i do believe that there were some people in my class from a different exam but not many. Most came from the 8006 exam. And regarding the other class I'm not sure but I would assume that most of them are from 8006 also.

Good move Jay dubs. Just stay away from the bx12 like it's the plague lol. Try to get the bx22, 28,38 or 30. And did you ever get a answer for that call you got yesterday?

  11. Thanks man! Its been a long process, I never went through anything like this for a job before, but hopefully the last process I have to go through. And yeah I did have to wait until day 9 to qualify, the instructor thought that an extra day of training would be good since I hit a curb on both day 5 and 6. You must always use those mirrors. But I'm freakin' excited. The hold thing from the time I got the notice in the mail to now has been so crazy that when the instructor said that he is going to qualify me It really took time for it to all sink in.

I hope so too. This is definitely a job you can make a career out of and retire with a good pension. You've gotten through the first hurdle of getting past day 7, now it's time to get past year 1 and the "P" for probationer moved from in front of your name.

  12. It wasn't too difficult but I was very nervous the hold time. As long as you use all the things you learned over the days you should be okay. Slow is the key, especially in Manhattan. Just have to watch those curbs, make sure you cover your right and my instructor big thing was forward planing. But I'm so happy everything went well. I have to be back a on Monday, I'm hoping for a depot in the Bronx since I do drive down from Poughkeepsie.

Do u start on Monday straker?

Congrats on a job well done, and welcome to the family brother.

  13. Well day 5 was OK besides hitting a curb on 81st and Central Park West coming out of the park and making a left today when I had a real brain cramp and hit a curb while making a right turn on 3rd ave and 24th st. I made all the hard turns correct like the acute left at Union Sq and others. The instructor said the ride was good, I just had a brain fart. I think I'll be good for day 7 tomorrow. Wish me luck!

Best of luck on day 7. I know you'll do well. You worked this hard to get where you wanted, so you will be successful.

  14. I do have another question regarding schedules, of course when and if I do pass training, what kind of schedule show I expect? I mean do you bump from depot to depot while being a newbie or would I be assigned to only one. Also is it possible to do a shift during the day and the next at night or vise versa? They have to leave some time in between shifts.

You will be working out of the same depot. And you will be working the same tour. If you happen to work a double I believe they have to give you at least 8-10 hours of rest.
