  1. The M8 fiasco will defintely play a role in all of this, since we all know that the (MTA) will offer Kawasaki a chance to bid in the R179 and R211 orders. The object is also to keep NY working by having these trains made in NY.might as well give it to Bombardier since they have a plant in Plattsburgh.Come to think of it the MTA would rather pick Kawasaki, since they have the only plant in the U.S that can build a rail car from the ground up without manufacturing carbodies in their base countries.the Lincoln NE plant is capable of doing that.Bombardier would have to have the car body shells fabricated in La Pocatiere Quebec. and ALstom carbody facilities is in San Paolo Brazil.Logistics play a big role in these contracts.Going with Kawasaki will save in terms of shipping cost.

  2. The pic with the two technicians working on the R32 was taken at the St Louis Car plant in Missouri.(Note the GSI *General Steel Industries* logo on the back of their technician coats. And yeah Mix trains was the Norm due to many cars being out of service due to inadquate maintenance of the 70s and 80s.Thank Heavens for the GOH program.

  3. You missed a few; ratatouille, the incredibles, Fining nemo and Monsters inc. you forgot. or did you not see them? BTW, Pixar is making a sequel to Monsters inc, it's called Monsters University. I don't know if it will match up to the original without Pete Docter, but I digress

Anyway, here's my list (I am not including Cars 2 because I have not seen it yet):

1: Cars (I love cars, and thus I love Cars. The touching story and lovable characters don't hurt, either)

2:Wall-E (A robotic romantic comedy with subliminal messages about the environment and obesity. What's not to like, even if it borrows from other movies (cough cough short circuit cough) ?)

3: Finding Nemo: (I loved this when I was younger, and I still do. These life messages are not so subliminal, and the comedy keeps the story rolling. I love andrew stanton!)

4:Toy Story 3 (Memorable story and classic toys meeting many new. A must-see. I just have one question: what took you so long, Pixar?)

5:Toy Story 2 (10 times better than the original. Pixar started to mature as a company around this point, and TS2 shows it.)

6: Up (I sense a pattern of touching stories with pixar movies, and Up is no different. The creativity here is genious. The movie is a little stale in the beginning, though...)

7: Monsters Inc. (The only reason Monsters Inc. is #7 is because everything else is better. Monsters Inc is legendary, and it's no wonder that Pixar is making a sequel. Again, what took you so long?)

8: Ratatouille (The story doesn't flow well, although it has charm. Brad Bird could do better, but it's good as is, for the most part.)

9:Toy Story (Don't get me wrong, I love this movie. But Pixar could do a lot better animation- and story-wise. Pixar was still starting out, and this movie reflects that. I would have liked to see more, though.)

10: The Incredibles (See first sentance of #9. However, The Incredibles was over-hyped, and the story is a typical superhero-fare plot. While Toy Story and A Bug's Life have the exuse of being the first Pixar productions, this has no alibi.)

11: A Bug's Life (This is the only Pixar movie I don't like. I don't dislike it, it just never really got me into the story. It also seemed kind of rushed to me. It's still very good, though, just not good enough for Pixar's standards)

How much can you expect frfom the animation out of the first "Toy Story" the movie started development back in 1991!! This movie when released in 1995 was way ahead of its time and totally killed hand drawn animated movies.watch toy story 2 and 3 and you can see over time the animation improved.Bigger budget+advanced computer technology=better quality pixar.
  4. I'm hearing the order will go to Kawasaki! Negotiations were suspended, but have now resumed. The award is supposed to be coming in short order. I will try to find out more details, and confirm this weekend!

    Stay tuned!:)

It would be nice to have a different manufacturer.Kawasaki is the new St.Louis Car.

  5.

How can anyone like this? It's just ugly! Any graffiti or vandalism is ugly in my opinion.
But you and everyone else want to see Corporate Graffiti.Like wrapped up trains with ads from swatch and target. Now that is uuuuuugly!!!!
  6. Thats not true. Urine doesn't come out in a straight form, when it leaves your body the droplets seperate so its not possible. If anybody ever watched mythbusters, you'd know what im talking about.

I think that might be the episode, not sure ^^.

Yep thats the episode. That myth was busted.

  7. Kawasaki, Alstom, Bombardier, and Rotem are the 4 potential choices. I don't believe any other groups have expressed interest, although such could have changed.

That said, as Kawasaki owns the engineering to New Tech 60 foot cars, I suspect they will get the order, as the other firms would have to spend substantial money and time on design. Time and Money that the MTA has no desire to spend.

Hyundai-Rotem would never win a (MTA) contract. They screwed up SEPTA's Silverliner V new cars and The (MTA) would chew and spit out Rotem by the time they are done.(NYCTA) Help close down Budd,Pullman-Standard and the St.Louis Car Company ;)

  8. Personally Siemens have a better sound.Which ever propulsion the R142A's have cannot handle 3rd rail gaps. They buck like a fat prostitute on top.Its like when Airline companies order a fleet of planes, the customer has a choice of engines to choose from various manufactures like GE,SNECMA,Pratt & Whittney,Rolls Royce.Im not sure if it works the same with Mass transit orders.

  9. I haven't posted here in a while lol. But anywho, I'm on thee bus and the spedometer is broken. According to it, we're doing 25 standing still

Didn't that just blow your mind :(

Wow the bus was moving so fast that it stands still. The (MTA) is testing new light speed technology.
  10.

Good point, and there have been a few times this past winter in which the head car on my 1503 train was a bar car, due to equipment shortages. However, considering that said train departs New Haven at 4:12 am and arrives at GCT at 5:47 am, food and beverages were not being vended. To be honest, I'm not sure I've ever seen a bar car with food and beverage service at the head of a consist in excess of six cars. That's not to say that it never happens, but generally a bar car at the head end seems to be more of an equipment move or to provide extra equipment during times of excess equipment shortages.
Funny you mentioned that because on one of my previous trips to NYC,the lead car was a bar car.Very odd ride I must add.
