  1. Whenever this (L) shutdown starts, should the MTA temporarily take the B42 out of (the special bus stop at) Canarsie (L) & have em run up to Rockaway av (3)? Meaning, buses would run from the Bayview houses to Rockaway av (3).... Free xfers would then be induced for the (3).... Nothing would have to happen to the B60 as a result of this....

I'm inquiring this because again, you're not going to get too many Canarsie patrons to xfer to A's, C's, J's, and Z's as a compromise....

....and on another note, when is that station rehabilitation along the (3) supposed to be completed?

I don't think that many people will use it.  Especially with a free MetroCard transfer a station south.  That's why I asked how many people from Canarsie will use that MetroCard transfer.  I think that more people from the  :3: will use it more than those from the   :LL:...

The (3) line station rehabs should be done by the summer.  It just Sutter-Rutland and Junius left.  Pennsylvania Ave just reopened again after being closed for four months.  This was because of a box truck hitting the stationhouse like a week after its reopening from station rehab.

  2. I'm from Canarsie and already most ppl take the train from Flatbush or Utica into downtown or the city

Sent from my iPhone using NYC Transit Forums mobile app

I'm in full agreement on that. I'm also in Canarsie now, and the influx of people are taking the IRT (2)(3)(4)(5) vs the (A)(C)(J)(Z) for the (L).

I should've said that more people from Canarsie will be taking those buses to the IRT. Just look at the B6/103 and the B17. Even back in the day growing up in Crown Heights, the B17 was always packed leaving Eastern Parkway towards Canarsie...

Ain't nothing changed on the B17 except that the Rockaway Pkwy and E.80th St trips are now combined instead of separate destinations....

  3. Let's not forget the B20/B83 direct to Broadway-East New York and crosstown buses B14, and B15. Those buses will get some form of an increase.

    Yeah, I forgot to mention the  :bus_bullet_b14: / :bus_bullet_b15: / :bus_bullet_b20: / :bus_bullet_b83: .  Especially the  :bus_bullet_b15: ....

Canarsie patrons always favored the IRT..... I personally don't see those folks continuing to take the L, to get off at B'way Junction for the A/C or the J/Z.....

The L's gonna lose ridership when this impending shutdown happens anyway, but from Canarsie riders in-particular, it's going to be to the IRT Lex & 7th av lines.... Which are (likely) the same lines they're transferring to from off the L, once it gets to Manhattan anyway....

The dilemma of the Canarsie resident that needs Manhattan....

    - Do you either take a bus to the Junction (or to Utica/Eastern pkwy) & ride the IRT directly to Manhattan, or..

    - Do you take the bus to get to Canarsie (L) & put up with the L to get to 14th st, to xfer to the IRT (for uptown or downtown service)?

    Not far-fetched to expect....

What I will say though is, said market's already been tapped to its potential; it came when the MTA gave the B103 that drastic (and justified) service boost back around 2010-11.... Sure it'll get more riders, but a considerable amount? I don't really see it.... Of course, considerable, being subjective....

Yeah, during the AM rush, people are getting consistently flagged in the Paerdegats as it is..... Have the route see anymore of a considerable increase & you'll see people getting consistently flagged at Rockaway Pkwy..... Don't really see that happening (nor do I see the MTA adding even more service on the route to support anymore of a significant usage that could come as a result of the L shutdown in Manhattan)...

As per usual, you give good points.  I wonder how many folks(Canarsie) is actually going to use the free MetroCard transfer at Livonia/Junius....

  4. Buses should NOT be bunching at 4:50 in the morning.... Yesterday morning, 2 B12's right behind another, are coming down Albany to make the right turn onto Clarkson - all while I'm waiting for the bus towards Alabama - in the process, ignoring this incoherent nutcase babbling on in an either drug induced or drunken stupor.... Anyway, depending on how warm it is out, you'll get one of these guys sleeping at the bus shelter that time a night (well, day, but it's still dark out).....

There were about 10-15 ppl on both buses, so it wasn't like that 2nd bus was carrying air..... Maybe that b/o was leadfooting it, IDK, but I get especially miffed when I see bus bunching during late night/early morning hours... Because it's enough that it's going on, at the rate that it goes on, on more than enough routes, during the peak & midday hours.....

Same old B12. I just went to my old hood to get a shape up from the barber. Seen 4 B12s(Two XD40s, One RTS, and an Orion VII) at the Schenectady and Lefferts Avenue stop heading towards Alabama Ave about a hour ago.

    Ain't nothing changed....????

I also saw two Bed Stuy bound B47s making the left turn from Clarkson onto Rockaway Pkwy...????

  5. For the subways, there is a supplemental schedule that reflects service during the time change. As many know, this Sunday is also first day of the new pick. Friday is the last day of regular (Q) service to/from Astoria....

My apologies for going off topic...

Forgive me for asking this, as it may have been answered multiple times before, but what happens to subways and buses when there's a change in time.

  6. You be surprised who takes Uber, Lyft, Gett and now VIA.. VIA is now in Williamsburg and Bushwick, and they are expanding as a far as Flatbush before the end of the year.

The influx of the mini-vans is for the fact that it is easier to fit at least 20-25 ppl on a bus and each round trip those drivers could make up to $100 round trip vs a 14 passenger seat van at $56 round trip. Most of those mini buses stop at Kings Plaza.. However the 63rd Pct + BSTF + FSD Task Force all patrol that area. So it can get a bit dicey. What's good with those vans they can short turn at Kings HWY and not have tons of issues vs heading to Kings Plaza.

Once the artics hit Utica for either SBS or Local, it's going to be a big problem for Utica van service. Already, you have the 71st Pct which patrols a latter portion of Utica and Empire to Eastern Parkway, than you have the 67th Pct which mostly deals with Church. I've seen certain and boarded vans within the 77th Pct vicinity which is rare. However, there are some vans that do make it down to Futon Street- Utica Ave Sta. (A)(C) (B25).

When it's all said and done.. Flatbush will have an influx of vans while Utica drivers will be shifting over to Flatbush or perhaps Far Rockaway-Jamaica (Q113) and or Queens Village- Jamaica (Q83). Rochdale Village- Jamaica, Q85/Q111/Q113/Q114. Rosedale-Jamaica, Q111/Q113,Q114 and Q5. Cambria Heights-Elmont (Q4).

Wow, some of the Utica vans are making their way up to Fulton now? I'm surprised that it took this long...

The B46 to the (A)(C) transfer is increasing, but is still less popular than the B46 to the (3)(4) transfer.

Actually, the B44 to the (A)(C) more popular.....

  7. Same in Queens plus they don't run as frequently as they used too. Also, with the re-construction of Green Acres Mall. Less vans are heading to Valley Stream and ending at 233rd and Merrick.

I noticed that as well, when I went to Green Acres on Friday. Im getting ready for the holiday cluster**k over there beginning next month now that Green Acres Commons is open....

  8. They actually weren't. Run 401 is a Q64 run till sometime around 9:22am. They've been showing up pretty consistently on that run.

Oh ok, thanks for some clarification. I figured that it was bound to happen on the Q64...

Question? Are there plans for the Q64 to leave BP depot and return to its former depot?

  9. Riding on the Q111 this past week:

5393: Glass for one of the emergency handles was broken....

5396: Half of the screws were missing on the interior hatch near the front of the bus. It was slightly hanging off one side...

As for the artics onthe Q64, it probably an interlining run. I saw an Orion 7 on the Q111 around 7pm on a weekday heading towards Rosedale...

  10. yes there are enough artics for BP. BP only needs five more XD60'S and their units from JFK. I would be happy if all those brewer routes would be just running XD60'S.

Hopefully by next week, The Brewer routes will be 100% artics....[emoji120] [emoji106] [emoji3]
