I doubt that. If true the Queens routes would be more in demand for XD's as most of the Queens NYCT routes are subway feeders... in the AM rush a bunch of people pile on and on until everybody gets dumped off at the Subway.

I never heard of the TA assigning buses based on how much space they have..

Not really only one Queens route cracked the top 15 in ridership. I’ve took the heavy lines and it not like the M15 or B46 we’re talking all day not just rush hours were you expect a full bus.

i don't know about all that. i highly doubt that DOB wanted every brooklyn division depot possessing cng tanks. and by the way, just based on the way the museum command cng rts was treated over the last few years, i highly doubt DOB was a fan of them. also, when MTA did have cng rts's, they promptly sold them to Command Bus Company, so i don't buy this theory

That was political the command CNG were not In poor shape Orion was cheaper. Only JG would have need CNG not that hard to do money talks thus Built NY. 8567 was not sold right away it ran for a few years.

that would solve one of the greatest mysteries in Brooklyn Division. the story i heard over the years is that originally Flatbush, East NY & Ulmer Park wanted no part of the NG order in the first place... but DOB forced them down FB's throat. also, it's been said that if Grand Avenue never was built/never opened, Ulmer Park would've had NG's forced on them too. gotta keep in mind that those 3 depots (FB, EN & UP) were RTS heavy in 2008, aside from the 67xx/68xx OG's at East NY, which they didn't want them, allegedly. i do recall an NG being at East NY Depot (i can't recall the fleet number, when exactly it was there or for how long) and i remember hearing it did a trip on the B15 to & from the Postal Facility (i could be misinformed)

Brooklyn never wanted Orions I’m sure they would have preferd a RTS CNG.

Actually its 20, 21, 24, and 29 as of right now. 23 is still inside the depot, however it is on the run line. 33 is assigned to run 636 but returned to the depot for some reason.

Also note more than a dozen major and minor updates will be posted throughout the week. Updates have been made to the Fleet and Depots title page and a post of all the pending updates have also been made.

I think the 3 buses is just to cover ENY's spare factor but we will know if anything takes shape next week. IMO, the new XD40s will move the old XDs to local service and once the XD60s come in, they will wrap the new XD40s for local service and then retire the RTS.

Since Flatbush is jumping ENY in the XD40 order for SBS makes sense to send the 73xx. When the 77xx come in ENY will get there new XD.

Unionport is a storage yard. East 180th is a maintenance facility and yard. They are/were bisected by mainline tracks the last time I was up there. When the yard dispatcher tells you that your put in is located on 24 track that means Unionport yard but if your train is on 8 track that means East 180 yard. Carry on.

The interiors of the 239th yard assigned 142 and the 142As/188s originally signed to the (6) are pretty rough looking as well, well on the interior at least. The (C) line's 160s look pretty bad cosmically as well.

CI and Unionport are the best yards in terms of keeping the NTT looking pretty, on the CI 160s, the windows at the end of the cars are clean and you can clearly see into the next car, where's 160s at the other yards those same windows are foggy/dirty.

The 143s are like 18 years old and they run on a busy line with high ridership, not surprised they are a little rough looking.

Unionport is just storage for 180 not to mention the two yards you named have car washes.

  8. This was the main problem I knew would happen with the B82 SBS. As far as Glenwood being turned back into a two way street yeah right, Eastbound service can use Glenwood it's faster then flatlands and it won't affect the B6 or B60. Westbound not to sure what they can do the L cut off all streets until Rockaway Parkway. Skiping Rocakway is not a option I'm take a wild shot here. Turn Conklin street into Bus only between E 96 to E 98 Street.

    Wesrbound Service pattern: B6, B6LTD, B82

    R - E 96 Street

    R - R Conklin

    L - E 98 Street

    Regular route

The SBS & B17 would use Glenwood Road still.

  9. Lol @ you thinking that it sucks that the #2 loops around Secaucus to get to the RR station & me thinking that what sucks about the #78 is that it loops around Secaucus to end at the UPS facility....

From Newark, the #78 is a route that loses about 1/2 of its riders after serving Harmon Meadow... Most riders are off the bus by time it hits Secaucus Junction (with a meager amount of intra-Secaucus ridership short of that point), then a new riderbase piles on for access to the rest of business industrial/rugged industrial Secaucus.... I don't know the history of the route, but it seems as if it's a result of a merge of two former routes/portions of former routes.... In any case, my gripe is that the #78 is woefully inefficient after serving Harmon Meadow - for starters, it doesn't need to serve Meadowlands Pkwy north of American IMO.... I wouldn't have it stopping at Harmon Cove either, really....

This is what I think the #78 should be doing (point 'B' is where the route loops to double back along Metro Way)...

From secaucus junction, the AM buses can still feasibly dive back on the turnpike, en route to heading over to JG to do a trip on the #40 & what not)

The #2 routing I have no problems with at all, as it's supposed to be a local route... That 2R is the equivalent of a LTD....

The variant that serves the mail center I've never managed to catch, so IDK how well that variant is used....

Getting to/from Secaucus Junction isn't (or doesn't seem to be) too big a priority for riders on the route... It's a far larger priority to/for needing to serve JSQ....

As far as combining the #78 & the #108, that's tough; an industrial commuter merged with a city commuter... Knowing what & how both routes are used, I can't say I agree that should happen.... What I'm thinking with a Union City-Secaucus-Newark route is a 3-4 zone intrastate route.... Can't think of anywhere to terminate such a route on the Union City end though....

You have to reconfigure the #78 to better server Seacaucas. The route should use exit at 15X Seacaucas Junstion traveling via Seaview, Meadowlands Pkwy, Rt 3, Paterson Plank Terminating at Plaza Dr & Harmon. It would serve most of the town of Seacaucas with a new transfer to the train and more buses to New York 124, 129, 190. Its more of a reverse loop with more Local service in Seacaucas.
  10. When I took the #108, it seemed like a decent amount of the riders it got were headed for Union City, which is relatively difficult to get to from Downtown Newark (and any connecting buses). You have to take the PATH (which runs like crap on the weekends) to JSQ for another bus or jitney. (The other option is to go to Secaucus for the #124, but nobody's going to do that).

And it would also make it a PITA to get to Manhattan from the Ironbound. You'd have to backtrack on the #1 to Newark Penn (or hope you can catch one of the unreliable #1 buses to Jersey City).

Basically, I do think it's important to have a bus linking two major transfer points (Newark Penn and Union City). I know a lot of buses bypass Union City, but at the same time, it does provide a lot of connections for buses going between different parts of the state, without having to go all the way to the PABT.

When I got on the bus, I think there were about 15 people. If you had to guess, how many of those people came from Newark Penn itself, vs. Downtown Newark, vs the areas north of I-280? (I was the last one on the bus at Newark Penn, so that's an honest question).

The best way to help the 108 is send it further in to say maybe Orange.

108 Orange - New York Via Union City Local - Routes extended from Colonade to Main & Day, Orange Via 280 also serving Orange Station

108 Orange - New York Via 280, Newark Express - Making the following stops: Colonade, Pavillon N & S, Newark Penn, New York

108 Newark - New York Via Union City Local - Weekday trips starting at the Colonade

  11. I think a split could help the B17.

B17 - Crown Heigths/ Canarsie-108 via Remsen (Loop made via Flatlands Westbound)

B18 - Crown Heigths/ Canarsie-108 via Remsen/E 80th st( Does not make loop, Rush Hour Only)

The B18 would take the regular route to E 80th both directions turning on Seaview to E 108th Street.

  12. I have a question about FR. I was on the (A) and I've seen FR open. They refuel there Express Fleet and they have a couple of OGs in the parking lot. Is FR being reconstructed or ... ????

From what I understand the local fleet ismaintained at JFK, I'm pretty sure midday locals use the yard for storage.
