Service on NJ Transit’s River Line will be temporary suspended starting Friday after the agency announced it will begin “emergency mechanical inspections and repairs” to a fleet of light rail trains

The River Line connects Trenton to Camden by way of communities located along the Delaware River.

Some wheels on a light rail vehicle “failed to meet the required safety standards” during a scheduled safety inspection.

“A preliminary inspection indicates there was a defect in a single batch of wheels delivered by the original manufacturer,” NJ Transit said in a statement. “Out of an abundance of caution, a comprehensive inspection is being conducted on every wheel of each vehicle which is a highly labor intensive process.”

NJ Transit did not say when it expected the inspection and repairs to be completed

“Customers will be accommodated by special express bus service between the four highest ridership stations as well as existing local bus service operating along the River Line route,” NJ Transit said.

The four highest ridership stations - Trenton Transit Center, Florence, Beverly/Edgewater Park and Walter Rand Transportation Center in Camden - serve more than half of the daily River Line ridership. Most other stations will be served by existing local bus service, the agency said

Customers at Burlington South, Delanco, Cooper Street and Entertainment Center (BB&T Pavilion in Camden) are advised to use other stations as no local bus routes service those stations, the agency said.

  2. Its worth noting that this Friday's Early Getaway bus service from PABT includes a rare one-seat-ride to Seaside via Toms River on the 137 that's normally offered during the actual Summer months

I am probably late but when did they extend the 66 to newark Penn and removed it from washington PK because i used to ride the 66 and we always got told to jump on the newark light rail. Wonder what made them pull out of washington park?

It happened when the 95 was discontinued due to the completion of the Pulaski Skyway rehab

PATCO will run fewer trains and close seven stations under a new overnight schedule that will put a police officer on each train starting Monday, May 13.

Under the new weekday owl schedule, trains will operate every 60 minutes instead of every 45 minutes between midnight and 4:30. a.m. Trains will stop at all stations except one — 9th/10th and Locust — between midnight and 1 a.m.

Between 1 a.m. and 4:30 a.m., trains will only stop at the Lindenwold, Woodcrest, Ferry Avenue, Broadway, 8th and Market, and 15th/16th and Locust Stations. The Ashland, Haddonfield, Westmont, Collingswood, City Hall, 9th/10th and Locust, and 12th/13th and Locust Stations will be closed.

On weekends, trains will operate every 45 minutes and make stops at all stations except 9/10th and Locust between midnight and 2 a.m.

After that, trains will run every 60 minutes and only stop at Lindenwold, Woodcrest, Ferry, Broadway, 8th and Market, and 15th/16th and Locust Stations while the other stations will be closed.

Trains will resume making all station stops starting with the 4:30 a.m. departure from the 15th/16th and Locust Streets station and the 5 a.m. departure out of Lindenwold.

PATCO said a police officer will be on every train operating on the owl schedule. The new schedule can be found on PATCO’s website.

“There’s safety in numbers, having more riders together on trains and in stations provides greater security and better police coverage,” John L. Stief, chief of the joint Delaware River Port Authority/PATCO police department, said in a statement. “We evaluated ways to increase our police presence throughout the system during the owl hours. These service modifications allow us to do just that.”

The initial reaction from riders on social media was negative, with some complaining about the short notice for the schedule change and warning that late-night partygoers might find themselves passing through the station where they had parked their cars hours earlier.

I'm assuming they're talking about the 159 with the express service? The way they article is written makes it appear as if the 128 was the express, which confused me for a second.

I think when they meant Express Buses, using the MTA term, since all their MCIs and Prevost buses are called Express Bus.  But yeah they said more bus runs starting from 60th on Blvd East on the 128, since the other 165, 166, 168 buses that make it to 60th St are standing room only

Groundbreaking? Wow, I haven't been up to date. I thought this has already been under construction for around a year now.

  7. NJ Transit plans to shut down the Atlantic City Line for five months starting Sept. 4 and redeploy its personnel and equipment to deal with shortages of both elsewhere in the state.

The plan, which was described in an internal email obtained by the USA TODAY NETWORK New Jersey, shows the struggles of the statewide public transportation system.

They also plan to end the off-peak one seat rides to/from NY Penn on the Raritan Valley Line

Meanwhile up the Freeway in Camden, they're severely short MCIs now.

Today and even on Friday an NABI was used the 317, which goes from Camden and Philadelphia all the way up to Asbury Park.  And NABIs show up on the 409, 417 and 418 daily now.  Sometimes the 409  even has to borrow NABIs from Mercer County for their trips.   It is about to get worse the 316 starts up next weekend and they use MCIs from all 3 South Jersey garages.

I checked the GTFS this week on the summer bus schedule and found there will be 4 Newton Ave, 2 Egg Harbor, 1 Washington Twp drivers for the 316

Majority of the 316 trips would be the older MCI D4000s from Newton Ave.  Newton Ave trip times are 8:30am, 9:30am, 3:30pm, 7:30pm from Philly.  We could see 2 Newton Ave MCI cruisers at a time on the 316

Fifty years in the making, officials anticipate the connection between I-95 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike will be open by late summer/early fall 2018.

Motorists on Interstate 95 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike soon will be able to get from here to there on just one road. It’s only taken about 50 years.

Since I-95′s completion in 1969, plans called for creating a seamless link between the interstate and the turnpike. In 2018, project engineers say, they will finally make good on the decades-old promise to make the connection and have I-95 stretch continuously from Maine to Florida.

I wonder if this will mean Greyhound, some Bolt Buses, and Megabuses will no longer travel through BFB, NJ 38, NJ 73 to Turnpike Exit 4 between Philly-NYC
