Amtrak7 Posted February 21, 2010 Share #2 Posted February 21, 2010 These are MAXIMUM speeds, there are many speed restrictions for curves, etc. Acela Express: 150MPH some segments Westerly, RI-Boston, MA, max 135MPH elsewhere Regional (except 66/67) on the NEC: 125MPH Long Distance on the NEC and Regionals 66/67: 110MPH Most other routes across the country, plus Regionals south of Washington: 79MPH Exception: The Southwest Chief, Pacific Surfliner, and Michigan Service run at a max of 90MPH.
