An Evergreen man has been arrested in connection with a stolen CSX vehicle from the Evergreen area Tuesday according to officials with the Atmore Police Department.

Leamon Tucker, 50, of Evergreen was charged with first-degree theft of property by Evergreen Police and receiving stolen property, first degree by Atmore Police following a crash that disabled the stolen vehicle on Second Street Tuesday morning around 8 a.m.

Atmore Police officers apprehended Tucker just before 1 p.m. on Martin Luther King Avenue.

Atmore Police Chief Jason Dean released information stating the truck was stolen from the Comfort Inn in Evergreen.

An unidentified CSX worker told police he had seen the stolen vehicle driving erratically along U.S. 31 and attempted to make contact with the vehicle. The witness told he avoided a collision with the vehicle and followed the vehicle to Second Street. The driver of the stolen vehicle jumped from the vehicle before he crashed into a utility pole in the residential neighborhood. The witness told police officers he saw the driver of the stolen vehicle jump from the vehicle before the collision and flee from the scene on foot.

Alabama Power workers were on the scene for about an hour working to replace the utility pole broken by the impact of the vehicle. No injuries were reported as a result of the crash or emergency repairs.

After apprehending Tucker, officers transported him to the Atmore Police Department where two CSX employees identified him as the man driving the stolen vehicle.

Tucker will return to Evergreen where he will face charges in connection with the theft.
