Trainmaster5 4,328 Posted June 14, 2008 Share #1 Posted June 14, 2008 Back in the day ( pre-Chrystie) there used to be a massive overhead sign on the uptown platform. It used to read something like " via Williamsburgh". or "via Manhattan" Bridge or something similar. There was also a smaller sign at 8th Ave-14 St which had " to Canarsie", or "to Lefferts" on it. I think Pacific St in Brooklyn had a sign similar to the one at Chambers St which gave out that kind of information. Anybody remember those signs and what they said ? I know the one at Chambers St let me know when the train from Brooklyn via the tunnel was arriving and that the train would leave and return to Brooklyn via the south side of the Manhattan Bridge. I believe they were called Banker's specials. I guess I'm an IRT guy who still loves the BMT. The BMT was a class operation.
