Forest Glen Posted November 23, 2008 Share #1 Posted November 23, 2008 On January 20 Barack Obama will be inaugerated. This historic event will bring huge crowds to the Washington metropolitan area. The WMATA is preparing for the event by having rush hour service from 4 AM to 7 PM. In addition, the system will stay open until 2 AM. Metro also is designing commemorative farecards, One-Day Passes and SmarTrip cards that riders will be able to purchase and use in the days leading up to, during, and after the Inauguration. The paper farecards are expected to be in vending machines by late December. The $10 commemorative SmarTrip card will be available in early January. Due to security concerns the Archives/Navy Memorial station on the Green and Yellow lines will be closed. Parking will be free at all Metro stations during inaugeration weekend.
