Y2Julio Posted November 24, 2008 Share #2 Posted November 24, 2008 It's on 11th Avenue between 58 and 59th Street. It's not an old IRT office building. It's an old IRT power plant that is currently owned by ConED.

Y2Julio Posted November 24, 2008 Share #4 Posted November 24, 2008 Yes. It supplied power to the IRT system. It's still used but not 100% for powering the IRT. It's used mostly to provide steam to private companies. Here is an article on it by the NY Times. http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9D0CE6DD1E3EF934A25752C1A967958260
Radioguy Posted November 24, 2008 Share #5 Posted November 24, 2008 That reminds me of the building at Avenue H (Brooklyn) on the Brighton Line. The architecture is similar, although the building is much smaller. I don't know if it's an old BMT power house, an old LIRR station house, or a switch tower for the LIRR/Brighton connection.
