Great .  Does this position work in payroll , hr, etc ? Enjoying it ? WhT is the interview process like ? Do you choose your location or whether hiring is necessary ? WhTs day to day role like ? Sorry for a shitload of questions

Analysts can work in any of those capacities. Location is where you the offer for. When a department needs an analyst, you apply specifically for that job/location. Its not an universal job posting like the operating titles. Depends on which vacancy you got the offer for. Was enjoyable initially, but once you get top pay as an Analyst it can be a dead end unless youre in the right place at the right time. The only advancement is getting a Supervisor/Manager job. Days are Monday thru Friday...bankers hours. Most Analysts dont see any OT. Im a part of the OSA Analysts. I think they have it better than the Transit Analysts (ATMAs) they are trying to fill all of the newbies with. Its cheaper for the MTA to hire ATMAs.

Great that you mentioned this as that’s the exact position I’m trying to get into (transit analyst) …the lack of ot will be a loss for me as I’m in another city agency that’s 24hrs and there’s an abundance of ot /no cap but I’d like an office environment and day hours .

Why do you think it’s cheaper to hire atma’s ? Also what’s the abbreviation for OSA ?

Its cheaper because they dont have to negotiate with an union for pay raises and demands. ATMA are MTAs own analysts. They will offer what they want to offer for cost of living adjustments....usuallly less than an OSA Analyst. OSA is the Organization of Staff Analysts, a small union, but they pattern bargain after DC37 contracts. The MTA has not been negotiating in good faith with us...they have been stallin for years and years with our contracts. To paint the picture...I am still waiting for retroactive pay from the 2015-2020 contract to be paid. Its only about 7.5% for those 5 years for us as we didnt get any raises for 2019 and 2020 due to covid. For years 2021, 2022 and the current year who knows how long we have to wait for that contract to be signed.

Back again . I’ve been applying to office /admin positions since January , and declined from many / no update from others . (Analyst , customer service specialist , testing specialist, etc )

How crucial would you (those in admin positions /HR)  say a cover letter is? For the most part I’ve just been doing resume since I’ve applied to 100+ and very rarely have I uploaded a cover letter . Does this play a heavy Role?

No, cover letters are not going to tip any scales. The response rate on application is very low. There are hundreds of applicants for single positions. So just on odds  it is difficult to get advanced up to the next level. Some have mentioned tweaking resumes to match to postings though to increase odds. So using AI assistance for resume writing. And again, transit oftrn takes 6+ months past an application to contact those that get past initial screens. So patience is a key. But results are slim. Process in totality is long & often times messy. Good luck

Thank you again . I was bummed thinking I’ll probably have no chance in hearing back but I’ll use your tip of AI assistance

Yes, the AI assist will probably allow for ones resume to aquire a higher score against the stated position. Still, the wait times tend to be lengthy. So, apply in masse & forget. Only time you can count it is if they actually contact you back at anytime in the future.
