Has anyone ever seen someone currently employed by MTA join the National Guard after they were employed?

I know that MTA works with employees who are already members of the National Guard, but what about current employees who decide they want to join the National Guard or Air National Guard. A employee who wants to volunteer and still keep there job, I can only see this being a conflict of interest due to the fact theyd miss 4-7 months of work due to boot camp and job schooling. I understand there are laws to protect the employee from getting fired for volunteering, but I feel as if MTA would frown upon this decision and find a way to terminate the employee. Anybody have some insight on this or ever see this happen?

No I work for a different railroad but my little brother works for Metro North and hes been thinking about it so im trying to find him a answer. If he cant find one hes gonna go talk to his union rep about it.

Ok, idk how it is with Metro-North, but tell him to ask anyone who is doing that for some advice. I agree that he should speak to someone who is a part of the union chain of command as well.
