access a ride

Hey guys im new to the forum and wanted some info from the vets. I currently work for one of the many access a ride companies ( or used to, more on that in a second) and was in an accidenr a few months ago. I was struck by someone and wasnt at fault. The company baiscally told me to go on workers come and i did, even though i did not want to (workers comp is cents compared to what i was making on my reg hours and overtime). So i would call the office trying to figure out what my employment situation was and they gave me the run around and stopped answering my calls (even the so called union people never called me back). So after all that my question is to you guys, in your opinion, what should I do? This was my first ever accident of any kind. Should i try reaching out to the employers once again? Im sorry if its the wrong section, i didnt know where to post this up?

First of all, whoever specifically told you to go on workers compensation is a complete loser. They're just trying to screw you for the rest of your life (honestly).

Second, as far as your situation is concerned, I would just give up calling the office and reach out to other employers. It's only one accident, and other Access-A-Ride companies within the tri-state area (MV Transportation, Professional Transit, Maggies, Consolidated Bus Transit, GVC II, etc.) will tolerate it, providing your abstract is not jacked up with other negative things, such as tickets, points, other accidents, DUI/DWI, etc. In addition, as an idea, if you have your Class B CDL with no N1 nor N2 restrictions, have you thought of applying to school bus companies, since you're already 19-A certified?

Good luck...

Yea basically time wasted (and a lot of money lost). I wouldve rather work with a minor injury than sit my butt home doing nothing. In terms of other companies, I have thought about that too but I'm discouraged because the accident did happen on the job (I guess you know that already since I said workers comp) and i was employed by one of the companies you mentioned. But i guess i should try my luck. Wouldn't school bus companies be more strict in terms of hiring with a previous accident on record? thanks for the first reponse, this situation knock my life all the way around.

First, my apologies for mentioning the company that you were looking for. I was just trying to give some examples, that's all.

Second, don't get discouraged! Always try your best and aim high in life! As far as the school bus companies being strict, like I said earlier, if your license is not jacked up with multiple accidents, points, tickets, DUI/DWI, etc, then you should be fine.

Here's an example (real life): If you were to look at my abstract right now, the only negative thing on there would be two [2] accidents, one at fault and one non-at-fault. I was hired by Professional Transit in August of 2015 with these two accidents. While working there, a few times I saw these red & black buses either on Archer or Jamaica Avenue. I did some research and found out that MV Transportation runs the Shuttle. When I went to the Harlem location to initially apply, the Safety Manager looked at my abstract, and upon her noticing the two [2] accidents as the only negative thing on my abstract, I was good to go. (The company is still hiring drivers for the Shuttle- click here for more information.)

In addition, if you click here and do a search for jobs in New York, for the Bus Operator position, the job description says nothing about any accidents on your abstract. (Click here to see a YouTube example of this job. Just note that they primarily run within in the airport.)

Questions? Feel free to ask. I try to go online at least once a day, twice if I'm lucky.
