  1. They dont remove Graffiti at Canarise Yard..

Um if its in the "Planning Stages" isnt that a fact?

No because it has not happened yet, or it my not happen. Conversely it could possibly happen. This means that their are a lot of gray areas in this type of information; facts by their very nature do not have many gray areas.

  2. Dunno all i know is that sucka is Gone! They Moved out (Under it own power BTW)to ENY and then to points Unknown....

If it was heading towards East New York, the MTA might be planning to put them on the J/Z. Someone in the TA told me the MTA was planning to do this.

Note to those who read this: I don't know if this is definitely good to happen. So please do not take this as fact; this is till all in the planning stages.

  3. You can also make the M9 go back to Union Square like it did years ago.

Bringing the M9 back Union Square would not be a good idea. If you did it students who attend the Salk School of Science, and the people who are coming out Bellevue would lose a viable transportation option. They make up a good portion of the M9 ridership so it would be best to keep the current northern terminal. Additionally IIRC many people did not board the M9 at Union Square.

  4. Yeah well some drivers on the Riverdale lines are smart and some are just airheads. Case in point... Last Sunday I got the 23:15 BxM2... B/O decides to take the Major Deegan when they're repaving the road... They just finished last week, but repaving had been going on for sometime now during late nights... So now he tries to use the side streets over by Yankees' Stadium. I tried to be patient and went to sleep. Woke up an hour later and realized we had barely moved!! I got home AFTER 02:00 in the morning! Ridiculous. The rude prick didn't even have the decency to acknowledge folks speaking to him when they got off.

Now the only time that I've had a major detour like the one you've mentioned was one night on the BxM18. Usually just taking the Harlem River Drive does the trick because of course the Major Deegan tends to be bad when compared to the Harlem River Drive. Anywho, both the Harlem River Drive and Major Deegan were backed up. Okay fine, but the chick started making a gazillion turns that I felt were unnecessary up there in Upper Manhattan and then she was driving like a snail to boot. I got to Riverdale over an hour later. I felt like I was on an SI bus in terms of how long it took. Mind you I get on at 44th & Madison usually, which is the next to last stop, so I can get home in 30 minutes with a good driver. I was annoyed to say the least. I had her on the BxM2 last week and she took over an over to get from 232nd and Henry Hudson Parkway to 50th and 7th. <_< Why she would use the Major Deegan is beyond me when at time of the morning, most BxM2 veterans would take Broadway down to Inwood and just take the Harlem River Drive down to and get off in the 130s near 5th and go from there.

How did the guy do timewise?

On a side note, there is another chick that does the BxM18... She took so long that I literally had to stop taking her bus. There were no detours and still it took almost an hour and 30 minutes to get to 239th and Henry Hudson Parkway from 44th and Madison. I couldn't believe it. I asked a guy who got off with me and he said "Yeah, she's slow". Slow isn't even the word... <_<

But yeah, all of the drivers have their own way, but I think the newbies tend to stick to the actual route the most (i.e. BxM2s taking the Major Deegan or BxM1s that bypass Inwood taking the Major Deegan). Don't ask me why either because the one thing that Yonkers' Depot does is school the newbies well as to how EVERYTHING works from turning off the lights at the last stop, to announcing the stops and so on.

Lol on the second women who operates the 18. Time wise he did great. He hauled ass down St.Nick and flew down the drive. He made it to Riverdale in about 35 minutes from my starting point, 96th street. The man was a veteran no doubt. I have always had luck with the BxM2 and BxM1 ever since the days when Liberty Lines operated those routes. Liberty Lines ran those route better but I digress.

  5. Oh yeh Via I wanted to ask you this: I was on the BxM1 yesterday heading up to Riverdale and my bus driver took an interesting route. He headed west on 106th turned onto Madison, drove down to 116th street, turned again onto St. Nicholas, continued down St. Nick until we got onto the Harlem River drive. Does this kind of detour happen often?

Note: I understand why he did this; to avoid traffic on the Harlem River drive. The passengers were pissed off, I personally liked it. I give him props it was a fast detour.

  6. I support Gorgor in bringing back the X90.

I do also especially now that crowds on the M15 SBS are getting worse. But it should be brought back with severely reduced headways.

    Ex:

    8 X90 trips a day starting at 6:30 a.m

    Runs:

    1. 6:30

    2. 6:55

    3. 7:15 This run takes a lot of people that normally use the M15 SBS that starts at 89th and 2nd.

    4. 7:35

    5. 7:50

    6. 7:55

    7. 8:10

    8. 8:25

  7. Back then they did it

I just wish they kept doing it, ugh!!

That is one nice looking bus! I remember those buses from my childhood. Did NYCT ever wrap their buses in full body ads (exclude the Select Bus)?

^ Those side ads are coming though, first the NGs and now some of the Quill OGs have side ads.

Yep, I think only one OG from Quill has side ads; one of the 67xx hybrids that has no ads on the left side of the bus. Many NG's from Quill and Manhattanville sport the side ads including one of my personal favorites:

  8. Those XD40's and C40LF's are still naked. I don't see any place where those ad's can go except the roof. Or they can do the whole bus wrap thing like they used to do with the Orion V CNG's, Orion V's and RTS.

I do you think you brought up an interesting point which is wrapping an entire bus with advertisements. If the MTA actually did go through with wrapping a whole bus with ads. it would not only be aesthetically pleasing to the riders, it could increase the likely-hood that a person actually pays attention to the advertisement because the ad itself is so eye-catching.

  9. I actually have a good routing for it, as such:

After coming south along 7th Avenue:

    Left onto 32 Street

    Right onto Broadway

    Left onto 19th Street

    Continue back onto Broadway

It works as a local for the M19 SBS.

The route is redundant; seventh avenue is already covered by the M7, M5, and the M104 (up to 41st street) and Broadway doesn't need bus service because there are so many viable options in the area (M1, M2, M3, M5, and the N and R). On top of that it is being converted to a pedestrian plaza so bus service would end up being inefficient. Again that's why I said it would be better to bring back the old M1 to south ferry

  10. Easily cut

    (T) FULLY LOCAL

    125 St

    116 St

    106 St

    96 St

    86 St

    72 St

    (Q) JOINS AS EXPRESS

    72 St

    96 St

    116 St (Optional)

    125 St

You can't have the Q skip 86th street, that is where a majority of riders for that line would come from. Additionally if the Q skips 106th and possibly 116th it would mess up the spacing between the trains.

  11. Ok, I have come up with a cost cutting measure, something that if it is not adressed will continue to waste thousands of dollars a year.

Eliminate the M20 under the following conditions:

M10 is extended to 23rd Street.

M9 is extended to Battery Park City. The City Hall section becomes a branch which is weekdays only.

The M22 is extended to South Ferry.

M6 service is restored as well, and the M5 is cut back to Greenwich Village.

Between 14th Street & Chambers Street, there isn't enough ridership to sustain the route.

1). Would cost to much money+ most M10 buses empty out before the last stop anyway so you would have a lot of empty buses running around.

2). There was a good reason why M9 service was cut to that area; not enough demand coupled with the fact that there are decent transportation options in the area.

3). People from lower Manhattan actually use the M20 to get to places further north and they would prefer a one seat ride to get to their destination.

4). I would not suggest restoring the M6, if it didn't help out with anything back when it was running, it would not help out now. I do agree with you though when you stated that M5 should be cut back to GV. Additionally the M1 should go back to serving south ferry instead of the current M5 or your proposed M6.

P.S. I realize that last response wasn't necessary geared toward the M20, I just wanted to give my two cents.

  12. I have an upcoming physical at livingston. I currently take two prescription medications. What kind of a drug test do they give? I havent had a problem at my previous jobs with taking them and they were DOT drug tests. I dont want them to hold the medications against me. One medication im done taking this week and the other I have been on for years.

I'm not a T/O or B/O but I can give you an answer. The drug test that give you, a 10 panel urine screen, detects everything in your system. I would advise you to tell the MTA in advance about your prescriptions so they can mark them off the results of your drug test.

  13. Definitely sounds similar, once the bus was emptier and/or going downhill it got going but when it was either full or going uphill, we just got passed and passed by OGs.

Some of the RTS's from 126th street are having that problem too. I saw 9424 on the M31 a few days ago and it could barely make it to the top of the hill on 87th street. A lot of buses in Manhattan have been having problems lately.
