  1. A lot of the bombardier motors are dead on the R142As, more so than other trains from other yards. Hopefully they will replace them with new ones, whether they are bombardier or something else.

Still that's not a reason to replace the motors; the MTA mostly likely will fix the motors up.

  2. Now if only we knew what propulsion the new cars will have...

It's going to be the same for obvious reasons. The MTA is not going to replace all of the fully functioning traction motors on 380 subway cars, that's just a waste of money.

  3. Yes, some can be quiet and most usually are. The thing is you rarely get the same driver like you do with most depots so you get exposed to all types of drivers and with me riding 7 days a week and sometimes making multiple trips to and from the city to Riverdale, I've had some drivers several times already. I find the old timers are more polite. The young bucks (rookies) coming in are usually rude as hell and just stare at you if you speak or whatever.

I love the young guys, they usually have a lot of charisma, and haul some serious ass when need be. The old fellows tend to be a little more conservative when it comes to driving.

  4. Well they have some pretty stupid rules on the Yonkers' buses (particularly the Riverdale buses), one of them being that they want you to stay seated until the bus comes to a friggin' stop, which I can understand for obvious reasons. Okay fine, but then some of them won't wait for you to get up and will try to take off before everyone has gotten off of the bus, so it's like make up your mind. <_< Quite frankly these B/Os out of Yonkers are more aggravating than the Staten Island B/Os... Then some of them want to enforce the no cell phone rule, yet some let folks yack endlessly like no tomorrow. I've got no problem with the "rules", but they should be enforced across the board. Yesterday I requested the stop for Henry Hudson Parkway and 232nd street and he pulls up to the light then sits there and I had no idea what in the world he was doing so I'm standing there waiting to get off and then I ask him "Are you going to open the door and let me off?" He just sits there like he doesn't hear me. Then he opens the door and lowers the bus. Apparently he had to let the wheelchairs off of the bus, but say something. Completely rude @ssholes and my patience with the rudeness has already worn out. I mean some of them are okay, but some of them are just out and out rude for no reason. I remember on the BxM1 one morning a lady didn't request the stop at 96th & Lex in time and so the driver literally scolded her and started huffing and puffing about how she has to request the stop beforehand. Mind you I was all the way in the back and could hear her going off. Her attitude was so unnecessary and her talking down to her like the old lady was a child or something. I was rather peeved to be honest, but I still spoke when I got off and she acted like she barely wanted to speak.

Well that's the same with all bus drivers out any of the MTA depots--you have the kind drivers and you have the rude drivers. Regarding your point on the Yonkers bus drivers; I just don't see them in the light that you are describing. As a whole, if we are going by generalizations, I would say that Yonkers bus drivers are quite, if anything. I have not encountered any of the events that you have described.

  5. The Yonkers B/O drivers are so friggin' rude... Either that or just spaced out... People greet them and they just stare at them like aliens out of space. I'll speak to the regulars that speak to me but other than that's it.

That probably has to do with some of the people that those bus drivers have to deal with. For example I was on the BxM1 a few days ago and this woman wanted to get of at 93rd and 3rd because she missed her previous stop. The bus driver responded and said "I can't do that miss." She yelled at him. To me this is an example of how irrational some of these riders can get--especially because the next stop she could of used was 96th street.

  6. Orion V 128 has to be the WORST bus ever. I rode it on the Q53 from woodside to Queens Center Mall. Not only was it slow, the bus felt like it had a flat tire and when idling it felt as someone was bumping the side of the bus. Also, the bars were missing that went over the sheild of the engine (between the 2 pairs of seats in the very back), and the bus was all dirty. To make things worse, the door system keep failing (when the driver closed the front door, the back door would be stuck open and he'd have to reopen and close the doors), and traffic was bad. I really should have taken the subway instead!

The only good thing about that bus was that the engine sounded pretty good, like a strong DDS engine.

I saw 5888 the other day on the M101, the rear sign is already broken (half the sign is dark).

The sign probably wasn't broken; most likely the sign was in "resting" mode so that it lasts longer.

  7. There're a few LFSAs running around with dislodged LCDs, most notably 1234 where the entire screen looks like it fell down

That could have been what you saw? I don't believe buses go OOS for too long when they have that though.

Wow I haven't seen 1234 in awhile, and didn't know that 1234's LED screen became dislodged. As for the bus that I saw, it was heading up 3rd avenue towards 126th street. The bus was not in service and it still in SelectBusService mode. I didn't know why it was OOS, so I assumed it was because of the LED (because that was the only visible problem with the bus). I do realize this an odd reason to take a bus out of service but, I do not know why it was heading down 3rd ave. to begin with. Maybe you could enlighten me.

  8. Following a few reactionary decisions made at websites recently, would it hurt to keep a running, user-contributed roster over here? I'm not aware of any functioning MTA rosters currently on the web, so maybe we should add something here, just to avoid confusion in upcoming posts, I'm thinking.

For what it's worth, I can contribute the current Manhattan bus roster for future reference:

Quick question: Did 1258 have a dislodged LED? If so I believe I saw it heading towards 126th depot.

  9. We DON'T need a Q21 LTD, what we need is a Q60 LTD!!!

If those people in arverne want limited service, let them take the Q22 to Cross Bay Blvd and get a free transfer to the Q53. It seems like now the (MTA) is fixing things that ain't broke.

There's no need for a Q60 Limited. The Q60 has decent headways and it moves pretty well along Queens Boulevard. On top of that there are four subway alternatives just in case Q60 gets delayed. The Q21 serves an area that lacks a solid transportation infrastructure. The Q21 needs at limited variant because there is a demand for service.

  10. It doesn't matter if people got used to them, it's the logistics that matters. This move has been planned for a long time, and don't jump to conclusions- we still don't know where the (MTA) plans to move the R62A's once the converted R142/R188's start to be put in service on the (7)<7> The only reason you see the (4) or the (6) brought up here is because those are the two optimal destinations for the R62A's- they don't have a large amount of termini, so it's less labor to change the rollsigns- and they can use the LED's. People are just going to have to start listening to the announcements, whether they like it or not, and be aware of their surroundings-it's just the way it is.

Isn't the MTA planning to retrofit the R62A class cars with LED destination signs and automated announcements before they place them on 6 line?

  11. More than likely going back to Gleason with one of Zerega's Superintendents.

They take 278 all the way into Brooklyn, and off at 39th Street, or 'sometimes' off at Tillary and take the local streets.

The thing is it was heading north towards Zerega not south towards Gleason. It may have turned onto Bruckner Blvd. I didn't see where it went though.

  12. 230 was already sent to West Farms to train their operators, so that theory is out the window.

And, BTW, 947 was being sent to Zerega or just leaving Zerega because that's the correct route from JG on the Bruckner Exp. (or Blvd.); either way, it passed the streets that would've routed it to West Farms, anyway. There's usually a C40LF departing from JG every morning to head into Zerega for training purposes, FYI... usually operated by an Superintendent.

I was under the assumption that not all of the drivers at west farms were trained. I guess I was wrong. I saw the bus in the afternoon, does that mean anything?

  13. Anybody ever caught that homeless comedian usually on the (A)? He gave everybody a good laugh and killed some time on our trip back home from Times Square. Just one of the many crazy characters that can be found in the subway around 3 AM, which is usually when the subway is live.

Was he talking about his wife?
