  1.

Drawbridge Malfunction at Jamaica Bay and Broadway Bridge, subways cannot cross Jamaica Bay or Broadway Bridge.

    Affecting (A)(S)(1).

    Rockaways:

(A): All Rockaway Trains turned at Howard Beach. Free transfer to (Q53) LTD available.

(S): Runs between Far Rockaway & Beach 116 ST.

    Broadway:

(1): Between 181 St-South Ferry, normal service. Assuming that the roadway is also shot, use two shuttle buses for service:

    1. Between 215 St & GWB Bus Term, via Broadway & St. Nicholas Ave.

    2. Between 242 St & GWB Bus Term, via Washington Bridge, Univ. Ave & Kingsbridge Road, express until 225 St.

(Corrected spelling error in post. B))

  2. Hey, here's one for everyone

59th St Columbus Circle & 42nd St Times Square are destroyed. No trains can stop or pass through. How do you re-route service? Also Remember that you CAN use Shuttle Bus service, but there are only so many extra buses.

All (;) division lines to 6th Ave... All (A) division lines to Lex Ave...

    Ok, not really. ;)

If 42 Street is destroyed, defeats purpose of subway.

Question: Is 42-PABT destroyed as well?

  3. "Residents on the Upper East Side claim vibrations from the regular blasting at the Second Avenue subway construction site is damaging their historic brownstone properties.

There are 45 landmarked homes between Second and Third Avenues stretching from East 60th Street to 63rd Street.

Many of the homes in the area were built in the late 1800s.

“I worry about the building because it’s moving,” one resident told 1010 WINS’ Glenn Schuck. “I’m wondering if one of them will fall down eventually.”

He claims there are cracks on the walls and staircase all the way to the fourth floor of his East 62nd Street brownstone.

Some homeowners are considering asking for an injunction to stop the blasting.

According to a published report, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority said the blasting is below levels allowed by the buildings department."

Manhattan Residents Concerned 2nd Avenue Subway Project Blasting Is Damaging Buildings « CBS New York

If the MTA is telling the truth, then the buildings are the problem. They were built in the late 1800's, building codes were less strict - non-exsistent back then.

  4. Trying to make sense with how people thinks about service can be a mystery. But it doesn't surprise me that if you (the rider) gets a one seat express ride, why give it up? But that's what I would feel.

But that said, I never said I was against 2 lines to the UES. I just don't see the need to, but if they do, then that's fine and justified. Astoria will need one line that can provide the service the (N)(Q) provides now and it's going to be a lot of work if it's the (R) or (W) as others mentioned here.

No one would be upset with more (R) service. ;)

  5. How much would the buses help though?

    • The (6) route currently has about 1 train running down the Lexington line every 2 minutes max. It is also helped by the (4) and the (5) as well as around 3~4 parallel bus routes running close to the Lexington Avenue line (7~9, if you want to count the ones running near Central Park). Along this corridor, the Lexington line alone serves about 150,000 passengers daily (a bit less if you only want to count the (6)).

    • All of the north-south east side bus routes combined ((M1), (M2), (M3), (M4), (M15), (M31), (M101), (M102), (M103)) for the entire length (that means all the bus stops combined) serves about 190,000 passengers daily compared to 150,000 for just 4 stations along the Lexington subway line.

    • The 2 Avenue line is projected to serve 200,000 passengers daily for just phase 1 of the line. It is going to require the same amount of service if not more (since 200,000 > 150,000).

Show me how your bus service is going to "help" the lone (Q) running at 5~7 minute headways with the crowds. Astoria doesn't need 2 services; the Upper East Side does.

NO! Astoria needs two services, or else the (Q) would not have been rerouted after the loss of the (W). There is a reason the (W) was created. Astoria is not any less of neighborhood in terms of population.

  6. The two express and local tracks have a rail condition. They all are usable except for the Northbound Express Track. However the tph is not going to hold all the trains. It wi over do the rails. Some trains can not pass because it would just make the whole line unusable for a period. Trains would also run at slower speeds

    Ok...

(N)- Normal service, with some southbound trains terminating at 34 St-Herald Square.

(Q)- Local service, with some trains traveling via (:D line to 145 St.

    (R)- Via (E) & (D) line between 36 St, Queens & Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn.

  7. Well the engine is just the icing on the cake. I agree that they are loud and it's not a pleasant loud either. Those Prevosts were a waste of money, and you know it's bad when I'm against new express buses. The (MTA) would be much better off w/MCIs. I just feel for the folks that have to ride them because overall they don't like them and I've heard various comments about folks trying to avoid getting them. The seats are cramped even for average sized folks and everything looks cheap on that bus. A total ripoff for $5.50.

Yeah, we know it's bad when you complain about express buses...

    :D

Before someone says ANYTHING, 2 services are needed to go to Astoria because of rush-hour crowding. There really is no decent way to do 2 services to the SAS.

  9. Remember, in that scenario, the (R) would go to Coney Island and have Coney Island Yard available. The (D), which has Concourse Yard, would replace the (R) from 95th-DeKalb with both lines running local in Brooklyn 24/7, having the benefit of eliminating the current overnight (R) shuttle in Brooklyn.

As in this scenario the (R) would be a 24/7 local from Coney Island-Astoria (via West End), the (N) can be a 16.5/5 line to Astoria with it supplementing the (Q) on the SAS at other times (to 96th/2nd from 10:00 PM-5:30 AM the next morning weeknights and all day weekends) while at the same time, the (N) would also be a 24/7 Express in Brooklyn and Manhattan on its full route otherwise. This would severely reduce track switching since the (N) would not have to cross to the local track in Brooklyn at all and only at 34th or 57th on weekdays when running to Astoria (since late nights and weekends it would be a supplement to the (Q) on the SAS) while the (R) and (W) would be the Broadway locals at all times. The added benefit for this on the SAS is with both the (N) and (Q) operating off-hours on the SAS, there would be minimal dropoff in service on the SAS during late nights and even possibly enhanced service on weekends in what is the most densely populated area in Manhattan if not the country.

    Really? :deadhorse: *pun alert*

Not to indulge, but... what B'way line would go to IND Queens line?

  10. A route I posted earlier, but now it's in a post.

  11. LMAO... Sewerdale... Very funny... Sounds like something we'd call Kingsbridge since it's beneath us geographically, but figuratively speaking as well. LOL The NOVAS are okay, but the signage I could do without.

I do agree with you, though. The Prevosts do seem cheaply made.

  12. The idea of this line is that it would absorb the Franklin Avenue (S) as well as (nights and weekends) the Myrtle Avenue (Mx) shuttle and serve as a 24/7 Brighton local between Metropolitan Avenue and Coney Island, with the current single track portion of the Franklin Avenue (S) rebuilt to two tracks and those stations rebuilt to 600 foot platforms (and the existing Myrtle El stations lengthened to 600 feet). This would allow the (Q) to be a full-time Brighton Express to Brighton Beach while the (;) becomes a second QB local to Coney Island (replacing the (Q) on that portion) on weekdays.

    Why switch the (;) & the (Q) for local/exp?

Cant have and/or don't need two services up that Myrtle portion, better off just sending the (M) to Bway Jnct and allowing the (J)(Z) to have a thru express to the Junction.

Yeah, and send the (M) to Canarsie on weekdays, and have some (L) trips end at Bway Jct.
