  1. The deadheads from Jamaica OOS are such as a waste. Speaking of which, I've been seeing a lot of deadheads from Flushing out to Nassau recently.

But where are the deadheads going? It may be cheaper to deadhead to Hempstead or Hicksville and run in service to Jamaica compared to pulling a bus out of MF.

Run 501 out of Yonkers Depot makes a trip on BxM11 from 241 Street and White Plains Road to Manhattan, followed by deadheading back to 241 Street and White Plains Road and making another trip on the BxM11. Could Yonkers send a bus to 241 Street instead of the deadhead?Sure. But is there enough work to pull a bus out for one trip?

  2. 35 minute runtime on the N80 + 42 minute runtime on the N81 = 77 minutes, which means a 90 minute cycle (this is with both going to Hicksville LIRR, not the Broadway Mall). The headway is 30 minutes combined, so that means you'd need 3 buses.

Right now, the buses have a 120 minute cycle, which requires 4 buses.

So you save a bus, but the costs go down by 25%, not 33%.

Well, one bus saved is one bus saved.

I looked at the new schedule:

81 leaves Hicksville at :40 and arrives Sunrise Mall at :22. Bus leaves Sunrise as 80 at :30 and arrives Hicksville at :05

80 leaves Hicksville at :10 and arrives Sunrise Mall at :45. Bus leaves Sunrise as 81 at :53 and arrives HIcksville at :35

I count only two buses required.

  3. I got actual December 30th Brochure at Hempstead before I went to my main event 85th St Firehouse X-Mas Party in Yorkville.

Nassau Inter-County Express will make adjustments on multiple routes Starting December 30th 2012.

These adjustments will help improve on time performance and in many cases, offer more transfer opprtunities. While the majority of these changes are Timestable changes only, a few routes will have actual restructuring. See this brochure for all the restructuring details.

For the following routes, please see the specific Timestable brochures or our go to nicebus.com for details.

    Route Restructing Information

The following are minor route restructuring details that will be in effect starting on December 30th 2012.

    n50/80/81

These routes now end at Hicksville LIRR. For service to the Broadway Mall, please transfer to the n20,n48/49.

Terminating the N80/81 at Hicksville is more than route restructuring. It's a cost saving. Currently, three buses are needed to operate the two routes. The bus arriving Broadway Mall has a 28 minute layover before the next trip. Now, only two buses are needed. Each route has a 5 minute layover before returning to Sunrise Mall.

  4. Shorehaven is the name of that little sectioned off/gated area across the street from where the bx27/39 terminate/layover at in that area....

In other words, Shorehaven isn't clason point, it's in clason point.....

That explains Shorehaven. It's strange that the readings book that reads 1 Shorehaven, 2 Shorehaven, and 3 Shorehaven but no destinations in the other direction.

  5. i tried finding something regarding that and west farms has the bx27 and kb and gh have the bx39 cause their south terminal is in "shore haven" if that's not it then idk what is

I have to correct some information. The curtain readings were from West Farms, not Coliseum. Routes 1, 2, and 3 went to Shorehaven. There is a reading for "27 to Clason Point" so I doubt Shorehaven and Clason Point are the same. The side sign curtain for Routes 1, 2, and 3 is also Shorehaven.

  6. I bet there are plenty of spare buses on Saturdays anyway.

I explained how it works in the "Interlining" thread. You can't pull a bus from one route. They flip routes at Broadway and Sunrise.

I bet there are plenty of spare buses on Saturdays anyway..

The issue isn't availability of buses. The issue was putting service on the N51 without increasing costs. VWM's point was to redirect buses from N80/N81 to N51.

  7. Yes they are. Now, sorry for being rude, but what does this have to do with anything?

Shortline Bus wrote that Jericho Turnpike is used as an alternative route when the Southern State is jammed and Joel mentioned that the distance between the two is 5 miles.

A new posting is always placed last, even if it refers to a post that is much earlier. Sometimes the original post and replied post are separated by unrelated posts, which happened in this case.

  8. That mentality is what's driving riders away from NICE. I'm sure there will be more than 20,000 lost by the end of this year. Could be a 50% reduction in ridership, which is what the county wants, less riders, less buses. They dont care about the n27 connections either. Cab business is booming, and remember cab companies sit on the NICE advisory board!

Anyone with standards will use the LIRR, get a car or a ride with friends or family, or walk. What's left will be those with no standards. Sadly some of the riders dont mind delays and dont complain about waiting another hour. That's what'll be left riding NICE.

But Veolia has to care because their profit is based on ridership. Yes, they have a guarantee. But if ridership falls, the death spiral of cutting routes to save money begins. I thought Veolia was hired because the MTA was on the death spiral route.

  9. I got screwed today by the N24 it came to Roosevelt field at 1128 instead of 11 12, I missed the 79 at 11 45 and had an adventure getting a cab. I called they said we cannot hold the 79 its not fair to the people that are in Hicksville that need to go to work.

Taklng a closer look, the N24 is scheduled to arrive Hicksville at 11:34. Maintaining the same lateness (16 minutes) it would have arrived HIcksivlle at 11:50. N79 would leave 5 minutes late. I don't see the problem holding the N79 for 5 or 6 minutes compared to telling a N24 passener to wait 55 minutes for the next N79. The N79 is scheduled to arrive Walt Whitman at 12:21 and turnaround at 12:30, which can handle a 5 minute delay.

  10. They need to communicate the stops to the n6 drivers better or the driver needs to listen. Some keep insisting that Fulton/Terrace is not a stop westbound and Hilton isn't a stop eastbound...today the driver skipped Fulton and riders at the stop attempted to flag the bus and people on the bus told the driver he is supposed to stop. A few riders got on at Meacham today westbound. Had a few standees on the express this morning for the first time.

NICE had a system pick for the new schedules. There may be new drivers on the N6. That doesn't excuse missing stops. It just explains it. Hopefully, drivers will talk to their supervisors and get clarification.
