  1. I don't know if you guys are really serious or just deliberatly misleading people but you DO NOT GET PAID MINIMUM WAGE AT ALL. That was an old practice. I have been paid the full pay rate, 30.0375, since day one of school car. This minmum wage rumor is false. And don't worry about no damn third rail jumper cable. That's the least of your worries. Memorizing signal definitions word for word and making good station stops is what will make or break you. Trust me.
  2. Listen, call this #3476438229. Don't just ask what list number they are up to, talk firmly but politely and let them know your name and your list number, then state that you have not been contacted for your drug test/initial screening and that you know people with higher list numbers than you who have. Just say "hey, I know a couple people who have been contacted but I haven't and they have higher list numbers than me, have I been passed over or something?" If you get the right person, they will check for you. They do pass over people sometimes. They make mistakes. You have to be in control and stay on top of them. If I didn't contact them myself when I did, I wouldn't be in school car now. Persistance is the key to acheiving anything in life. So what if they get annoyed by you calling, its what they get paid to do.
  3. I think you would prefer Division B if you live on Staten island. All the A division yards are in the Bronx except for 1 in queens and 1 in Brooklyn. All the B div yards are in Brooklyn and mainly south Brooklyn so that will be ur best bet coming from Staten.
  4. What he was saying was that you are ALLOWED up to 40oz of water if you can't go on ur own on the first try. If u get there and your able to go right away then you are fine. They do not MAKE you drink water if you don't need it. That is a 100% fact. Just try to hold your urine til it's your turn to whiz.
  5. To any of the new guys who started, did u guys get to pick what divisions you wanted yet?
  6. Hey elantra, so how did they split ur class up? Did u get the division you wanted?
  7. The top guy at the learning center/school car told us today they need T/O's and C/R's badly. He said MTA is hiring 40 TO's and 20 CR's a month for the next 6 months. Good news for those waiting. What's gonna happen after April when the 6 months is done..... ?
  8. I just saw the bulletin, 180 Livingston WILL be open tomorrow.
  9. As far as us guys that are in school car goes, we HAVE to report to training tomorrow at 7AM sharp at PS248. I Received the call today. I'm glad cuz I couldn't spend another day couped up in my house. 2 days is enough. So if we have to report for training tomorrow it's safe to say most MTA operations will convene tomorrow besides train operations where there is flooding. I would call 180 Livingston first thing in the morning tomorrow to see if they will be open or you can play it safe and just show up extra early so if they aren't doing any processing you will still have time to report to ur regular job.
  10. Idk maybe I did and just forgot or was more focused on something else. Obviously I must have if I'm almost a week into class lol. O by the way, They split the class up further today into classes of 10 each. TA16, TA17 and TB26 and 27. Corresponds with divisions. I'm in TA17. Hope that's not too much info.
  11. Congrats medi, patience is a virtue. Speaking of this sworn in thing everyone is saying... I am in the current class but was never "sworn in". Did u raise ur right hand an literally get sworn in because I don't remember doing that.
  12. It is a crap shoot because I have heard of instances where the whole class gets sent to one division or where only a small few get sent to a certain div while the rest aren't. We just happened to luck out and somewhat get the option to choose. Most of the B div slots were taken by the promos since most live in Brooklyn or queens from the conversations I had with a couple or overheard. Also when i got up to the table the TSS mentioned how usually everybody picks A div but this time around mist people requested for B div. Only a couple of OC guys got to choose B div. the rest of us was put in A div which is what I wanted anyway since I live in manhattan. The socio economic status of the Bronx should have no bearing in your decision because Brooklyn isn't a walk in the park neither. Especially East New York and Brownsville where there are B div yards and a lot of train lines travel in those areas. Far rockaway isn't a walk in the park neither. The only thing that should have any bearing is your home proximity to your possible division yards or your personal preference of train lines you would rather run. Me personally, I'm concentrating on getting a spot on the 7 line which is my favorite train line. I don't care where I'm living when I get enough seniority to choose. The 7 line is what I want and where I want to be.
  13. We received our divisions today. 20 to A Div and 20 to B Div. The pick went by list number order for all of us with the promos getting to pick first. Orientation done. Real training starts tomorrow I believe.
  14. First day was all paperwork and speeches. Over half of the train operators in this class is from the promotional. Mostly former bus operators. So this isn't a full OC list class. No word on divisions yet.
  15. Relax, you will be fine. There was a couple things I forgot to list employment wise but guess what, I let the appointment officer who goes over your paperwork with you know and I start tomorrow. They go over everything and will give you a sheet to fill out whatever you were missing or you wish to disclose. As long as it isn't anything serious you will be hired. I totally forgot about a couple things, they don't sweat the small stuff. Just don't lie.
  16. When is your start date if you don't mind me asking?
  17. From my point of view, they seem to worry more about prior convictions than job history. As long as you list all of your convictions and work history in the booklet to the best of your knowledge you should be ok. That BS job someone had 10-15 years ago that you got fired from for time and attendance doesn't hold as much weight as you lying or not listing a conviction. They are more worried about recent job history. If you were fired in the last couple years I would let them know because that employer most likely still has your info. Now the job from 10 years ago probably doesn't even remember you worked for them. It seems that most of the people who get fired after being appointed are the ones who hid their criminal history or had pending charges and didn't let MTA know. Not people who forgot to list that part time job that they were let go from. As long as you didn't assault a supervisor or steal from work then you should be ok.
  18. I have a question for the veterans on the job. IF and only IF, we were given the option to choose which Division we would like to be in next week, which would you guys say is better? I live in Upper Manhattan and I heard the A Div is better for people who live in manhattan and the Bronx. Does it even really matter since I will be extra anyway and they can send me to any boro to work on any given day? I'm just curious cuz since I live in upper manhattan I'm leaning towards A Div but I don't want to limit myself if it isn't needed. I want to learn both divisions.
  19. I would take this info you received with a grain of salt. Some people will tell you anything to get you off the phone. When I did my final processing there were about 9 other people there for the same thing and most were appointed. The class starts on Monday and its supposed to be 40 people so I doubt it would start with only 7 of us. Not trying to discourage you or anything. If I arrive at orientation on Monday and there is only 7 of us there I will definetly let you guys know.
  20. Don't be too concerned yet, I did my final processing on Friday and from the list of people that was supposed to show up that I saw, they were all in the 60's and 70's. The second class is supposed to be Nov. 12th so if it gets close to that time and you haven't received a call then I would give them a call personally. I was told on friday I will be starting october 22nd so thats about a one week notice. Good Luck
  21. Yes many do fail the medical. In fact only about half of the group that came in today made it all the way through to getting finalized so some additional list numbers should be getting called down for the 22nd class. 80 something people to get 40 sounds about right to me. And it's my personal opinion but if someone turns down this job..........
  22. Well just finished up at the employment center. Did the full medical and then they sit you down, one on one with someone and go over ALL of the paperwork you EVER handed in, in detail, included the 21 page booklet and original pre employment app, then they let you know about the position. Orientation/class start is 10/22 as posted earlier in this forum. Seems like they are in the 60's, 70's range from the sheet of names I saw. It's crazy how its here. Waited so long and then when it comes, it all goes so fast. Congrats to everyone who received start dates, see you on the 22nd. And good luck to all waiting on the call or letter. It should move fast if they are already in the 70's for a 40 man class.
  23. So how did it go today? Any word on class start dates. I report tomorrow for final processing so any type of insight as of what to expect is appreciated. Thanks
  24. Ok ok I can relax now. I have to report at 730am on Friday for medical and final processing. Good luck to all.
  25. Ok let me be more specific, I said I was in the top 100, so let me narrow it down and say I'm in the top 50. Went to pre interview/whiz quiz September 28th so yes I am panicking. I know my whiz results were 100% clean too.
