  1. Finally rode me an XD60 today on the Bx41, Bx55 AND M100 (about damn time lol) and here's my little 2 cents on it...

Wasn't really paying attention to what's under the hood since its pretty much the exact same thing as the midget ones (and i get enough of that crap every day). But what really got my attention was the seating arrangement. Those back to back seats over the center axle is just beautiful. Its like sitting on an LFS/A without actually having someone in your face. All the seats have awesome legroom which is perfect for me.

    Now the cons...

As with the little ones, the suspension is not all that great compared to an LFSA, it does get bumpy in there, especially around the center axle area. That center door looks way too close to the front door compared to the LFSA. But other than that i have no problems with the bus.

Do i like it? For the most post, yes

Would i ride it again? Only if i have a legit reason to...I'm not gonna take 2 train rides just to ride a bus, ain't nobody got time for that lmao.

Those ZF axles make all the difference, I guess.

  2. God, the impatience is unbearable. "The bus" don't own an explanation to why it has not yet see service. The bus is new, you can't expect to see it out and about right away. When you see it, you'll know soon.

I just found it odd that it seems to be in limbo for so long. I don't personally care; just that other buses seem to get delivered and then listed at some depot and this one for some reason is different.

  3. New Rotary Bus Lifts...

    Interesting

This went over my head for some reason. Yes, rotary lifts. For lifting buses. What is interesting? It should be cheaper with no installation, I get that. Is it supposed to signify something else, too?

(Serious question. And I predict I'll look quite the fool once I get the answer.)

  4. Oh yes, and we don't immediately know about unplanned service disruptions until we are TOLD about them. And regrettably the RCC has a tendency to not broadcast them over the radio to foreign lines unless it's something really big.

Only the most ignorant of the sheep expect C/R's to be omniscient. These are the same people who complain that the (MTA) sucks when construction work goes on to improve service.

That being said, the stuff I've seen on the (F) from conductors goes beyond "we're human." I posted it a while back, but some of those C/R's seemed to have no clue what they were doing at all in terms of the R160 programs. I won't tangent off, but that post is in this thread somewhere.

  5. I was riding the (R) train yesterday, IDK what the C/R was thinking. I was at Whitehall Street, and the (R) came in saying LAST STOP on it's signs. When I was riding the train, IIRC they changed it to:

    R FOREST HILLS

    R 71 AV

    R via 63 ST

so I'm like, the (R) is running via 63 Street? WDF? But it ran via 60 St Tunnel..

That was just the R46 side LED displays doing their thing. Neither Jamaica nor Pitkin seem to be able to fix the issues, or don't want to.

  6. Once again MTA screws over people south of atlantic avenue on Q train. This alleged construction is taking too long and the train to Coney Island never comes. So sick of this. f**k MTA. Wanna punch their executives in the face so hard.

^Shit like this is why I say New Yorkers don't deserve any kind of transit system.

  7. I understand.

On a semi-related note, I've been looking at some older maps of the subway on NYCSubway, this one in particular: http://www.nycsubway.org/perl/caption.pl?/img/maps/system_1987.gif

Does anyone know what this means?

    utica.jpg

Why is the (A) bolded but not Kingston/Throop? I've been doing some 1980s FIND displays and they're probably massively inaccurate. Originally I thought that the <C> and (K) ran at the same time, because on CPW there's nothing designating that they don't.

    (A) stopped at Utica at all times but the local stops only on nights to cover the (C) which didn't run at that time?

  8.

No, not a response to you. It's something I've seen come up here and there on this forum though (including the post you were responding to)

....they'll keep foaming as long as the line-up at B/L continues to be a yard indication.....

Oh alright then. Thanks for the clarification.

  9. I'm amazed how many people (ESPECIALLY some of you on this board) seem to think that the (Z) is some separate line from the (J). There are no (Z) crews - they are all (J) crews, which do half a trip designated as the (Z), using the (J) 's equipment. Furthermore there are only 6 (Z) runs in the morning and evening. You can't just say "let's send the (J) here and the (Z) there" ... even if the MTA WERE to add distinctive service, they would need the added equipment to run it  -- there are no longer any (M) trains which come out of Coney Island Yard anymore, for example, so if they wanted to extend (J) service to Bay Parkway, where would those trains come from? Believe me, if they had the available equipment, they wouldn't be running those R42 sets anymore.....

Show of hands - how many of you want to see a " (J) to ..... " service just as an excuse to use the Broad end of the Montague tube?

Wait, why was that response to me? I acknowledge that the (Z) is part of the (J) in my post there.

    ???

  10. Are we expected to read that manifesto of a post on the mutated Q70 proposal? This is like when the guy in the NICE forums was obsessed with NICE creating a 20-year-old technology fare card for themselves in 2013 (and for the (MTA) to accept it, too; hilarious) and kept hammering away. Holy crap I'm dropping this. Obsessed people (under the voting age, too, far as I can tell) will continue to obsess no matter how many times you explain to them how their ideas make absolutely no sense and are not physically, logistically and/or financially feasible/sensible. I mean, when I was a middle school kid I also thought up batshit routes like that, but at a certain point you gotta learn about the real world and how some things just don't make sense.

  11. Actually I myself am happy I am just replaying from opinions of riders and people I interact with when I go there. That is those newbies there not me. I use other people's experiences and POV of those I meet to form conclusions.

If you're referring to community meetings, the people you interact with at these community meetings are mostly imbeciles who know nothing about transit beyond "MTA SUCKS." Yes, there are transit-knowledgeable people that go to them. But, there are also many "I WANT FREE BUSES" idiots whose input is the exact opposite of useful.

Also, you really need to stop making all your routes FOAMy cover-half-the-city regional routes. You have to start taking into account things like traffic, ridership, cost, and travel time when thinking up routes. Otherwise, the rest of us just end up looking at them and thinking "what in the name of holy shit is this." I mean, you can't just say "well this route will go from LGA to Downtown Brooklyn because I said so." OK, well who will realistically want to get on this route? Can you actually get enough passengers on it? And how do, considering the delays even the proposed Q70 already faces with using the BQE and GCP, you navigate the Greenpoint Brooklyn/Queens border without turning it into a joke?* These are the questions that disassemble this route when looked at from a realistic, logical standpoint.

    *Answer: You can't.

  12. I always thought it was foaming imo. But survey says that if this ever happens in our lifetime, it's possibility that it could cut down crowding on the (R) and maybe even the (4)(5). Sounds like a cute idea, but in reality the (MTA) would of done it a long time ago and it just seems pretty.... well.... unlikely. If there were extra trains ordered.... maybe..... The people on subchat are just really thirsty for something brown of the West End line, I'm guessing. You decide because it just an opinion.... ^_^

Probably. The biggest problem with running the (J) down there is the J/Z thing. Can't run only (J) trains there since technically some of those will be (Z) on the way back. As is, it very likely isn't happening.

  13. I told you the reason you refuse to acknowledge that valid reason. As it can potentially create more new transit users. Incorrect diverting all the way to the (G) and waiting for it would hardly be faster don't even think about saying go through manhattan which makes no sense. Last I checked williamsbugh is not 15 miles away. Ohh outside rush hours BQE is actually just fine. I am aware it has weekend rush hour sort of.

OK, map this out so we can at least see. Your description makes it sound like a bus line with a handful of stops covering half of Brooklyn and Queens.

  14. I modified it it would bypass DUMBO cause MTA will create a new route from williamsburg to DUMBO. So it won't zigzag at all. It would go directly to downtown brooklyn. Linking to the (L) and (G) and (J) and atlantic terminal it would be almost non-stop. You don't have a valid argument to refute or invalidate it so just stop. DOT can optimize this route via HOV so the line won't need meeker and park ave to skip the traffic.

My argument is that you're needlessly extending a route for literally no reason. You're making a foamer highway bus route, man. It doesn't matter how little stops there are, the length creates more opportunities for delays. Highways, especially in NYC, aren't exactly invulnerable to traffic jams. Local service roads are then subject to stop lights anyways. Seriously, I don't get this infatuation with 15-mile long regional routes that in the end serve nobody. Just because you "connect" it to the (L) and (G) and (J), doesn't mean people will want to get on this bus and schlep up Brooklyn, over Kosciuszko Bridge traffic, through Queens Plaza area traffic, then to Roosevelt/LIRR and then onto the highway. A faster alternative is to stay on the subway, and get to either Woodside or Roosevelt and take this currently planned Q70 LTD straight to LGA.
