the LIRR two months ago. The (1) train in the BX early last month. The freight train this past weekend.... Dont you watch the News?

The freight train has nothing to do with them.

Nothing is "going on." The M8s that derailed on the Metro-North derailed because this country's railroad regulations are written by idiots, so we have 150,000 lb. "modern" EMUs plowing down the ROWs on the New Haven branch, in case they run into a mile-long freight train along the way. Yes, turns out when you run 8-car trains of carriages that each weigh as much as a TGV power car, rails get snappy. The (1) train I'll give you. Otherwise, "What's going on" makes no sense. Not like this is a recurring problem like the 5000 series problems WMATA had.

  2. Running 600 foot trains on the C would have required 36 more cars, plus spares, to be added to the R179 order.

Yes, I realize that. And for the cost it would have greatly increased the flexibility of those R179s, rather than the current set-up where the (C) is made 480-foot-long trains for the next 4 decades and no other lines can use the R179s other than the BMT eastern division lines.

  3. You mean b division right?

    BALLS

You're right. And it's too late to edit the post now.

Still think it should've been the other way around with mostly 5-car units (so they could use them anywhere on the A division and not just the (C) ) and some 4-car units for the (J) / (Z) to retire the R42s.

    ^DUMBASS, it's B division. A is the IRT.

  4. 4250 had a weird, incredibly loud, buzzing sound on it today. From the inside of the bus it was loud as hell. I can't even think of what was making the sound. Wasn't a high-pitch. Very loud, sometimes would tone down, sometimes tone up (but not in sequence with the diesel motor, completely independent). Guessing something to do with A/C system? First time I've ever heard this on an NG.

  5. So I guess we can conclude that the problem on those R142As on the (6) is a mix of the initial design and bad maintenance. Any word from employees on here if the R188 transition has maybe fixed any of that with the first batch of conversions??

  6. Ohh that buckling...i know what yall talking about...the R32s on the C make that noise when pulling off...it sounds as if all the cars are jammed together...and when it pulls off the cars space apart alittle..sounds cool

Either Westchester Yard did a shit job with maintenance, or the initial build quality was ass. I hated the (6) because of that.

  7. Um.... Running hot is a big no no... If they're early they're supposed to wait.  That's a big pet peeve of mine.  I had a BxM1 do that a few Saturdays ago.  He was due to leave the first stop before I got to my stop and I still managed to miss him because he left the terminal early. He also wasn't on Bus Time either but I saw the bus as I was walking to the stop so it must've been him.  I had to wait over an hour for the next bus.  I was pissed and I made sure I wrote in too.  I called the depot and they're talking oh you have to wait.  I said to myself this guy must think I'm an idiot.  I know that B/O came early and now I'm stuck here waiting for an over an hour because the BxM2 by that time I had already come already so walking over to get that wasn't an option either.

An X28 did that shit once. I was there early and didn't care much since I was dozing off, but I'd guess the people who usually try and catch that scheduled run might've been pissed since the guy was like 4-5 minutes early off the schedule time.

EDIT: And that time the BM3 (cause I wondered which would get me home faster, what with living between the two) came pretty much very late or early. It was like 5 minutes late (or 5 minutes early) and ran both midtown and downtown portions for some reason when the one I was waiting for was supposed to be midtown only on the schedule. I know express guys wanna be on time and since they just do pick-ups they wanna get everyone and GTFO to the outer boroughs, but they really piss on the schedule sometimes. It was fine for me, maybe not so OK for people who missed a bus they waited for.

  8. Today couldn't have been anymore perfect. I caught an R32 (C) at Nostrand Av, then an R32 (J) at Broadway Junction like I mentioned earlier, and last but not least, an R160 (C) at Fulton St.

I've managed to be the only person here who hasn't seen one on the (C). What are the odds. I often get the one R46 that will be running on any given day on the (F), so yeah, them's the breaks.

  9. You know what my point is.  Stop being in denial that the (R) runs like sh*t and that just because a neighborhood has a subway line then that automatically means that their transportation needs are met.

That can't be your point since I don't think the (R) is great. It gets the job done, though. It's worst moments are the drop-outs at 59 St during rushours. Otherwise, for the ridership it gets (and the amount of trains they can squeeze into 60th street tube), headways are OK. And yes, it'll be ok when the Montague tube gets closed. Dekalb, etc...

  10. So what? That's like saying parts of the Bronx have the (2) and the (5) so therefore their transportation needs are met, even though apparently the (2) and the (5) run like sh*t, hence one reason the BxM11 runs parallel to the (2) but gets good usage.  Same thing with the (R). It runs like sh*t and that's why the X28 is needed because it provides a quick alternative and is used well.

And? Yeah, the buses get used. Good. The more people use them the better, as that means more bang for the buck in terms of running them. Your point being?

  11. You take the express bus to kill time? Nobody takes an express bus to kill time.  You've got it etched in your head that because you think that the subway is the greatest invention ever that everyone else must subscribe to your BS way of thinking.  Bay Ridge has one measley subway train which runs like sh*t, isn't ADA accessible in many stations in Bay Ridge and is only good for those who live near it.  By the time someone transfers from a local bus to the (R) you can already waste 30 minutes right there.  I know because I've done it. I've used another slow connection in the B16 to reach the (R).  You are in complete denial of the poor service that line provides because it's a subway line.  That doesn't mean jack sh*t.   I'm willing to be that it's ranked as one of the worst subway lines in the city.

Bay Ridge and Staten Island share quite a bit in common.  Bay Ridge is far out in Southern Brooklyn and residents face long commutes just like Staten Island.  As a South Brooklyn resident for over 15 years and a Staten Island resident for close to 10 years, most folks in South Brooklyn face a 45 - 60 minute commute and that's not including any local bus.  Having the express bus cuts down and transfers and allows Bay Ridge residents a piece of mind and shortens their commutes which you obviously don't care about because it's all about Culver and what works best for him.  Oh I use the subway so so should everyone else because that's what works for me.

I do take it to kill time. I sleep on it, which is simply easier to do than on the subway. So for me, that X1 to X28 ride is dicking around. To people in Staten Island, the X1 is important, and to the X28/38 regulars, that bus is important, and they use it. What's the problem? Still doesn't make any of the shit you wrote there make any more sense, or prove whatever point you're trying to prove. Bay Ridge has a subway line to Manhattan, Staten Island doesn't. They have dick in common. The express buses as is provide service where needed and when needed. It's not what works best for me, it's what works. The current set-up with the 27/37 and 28/38 works fine, as evidence by people taking those buses. And if people actually use the X28 on weekends (and not, you know, demand it and then drive anyways), weekend service could work. You like express buses and want them everywhere every 5 minutes, OK, and nobody gives a shit. That's life, deal with it, just as 99% of the people who take the (R) will just take a transfer at Atlantic or DeKalb or Jay without a second thought.

  12. Boy! Where have you been? Welcome back to planet earth from your distant planet lol. (yes)

I've been swamped in work. I'm gonna need to read through this thread I guess. I could've sworn I didn't miss anything and then bam R160s on the (C). Ain't that a kick in the head.

  13. Of course you don't.  You have a foggy memory when you take the express bus but anytime someone else needs it you scream loudly that they should take the local bus to the subway.

You're making literally no sense. How is me rarely taking the express bus on my ride home (when I leave early and have two hours to spare) the same as you going (wherever you were going) and randomly getting on an X17 and then bitching it was hard to get to Coney Island? I don't take the express bus because I need to, but because I have extra hours to kill sleeping on the bus. It's not even an "alternative" so much as it its a waste of my time because I got time to waste. If I leave normal time I wouldn't dare be dumb enough to do the X1 to X28/38 thing. And if I lived along the (R) and needed Manhattan, I'd still take the damn (R) because I can transfer to any one of 300 lines to Manhattan. On a final note, Staten Island and Bay Ridge are entirely different. One has only the ferry or driving as an alternative to express bus, one has the (R) (and later, those spooky transfers) to get to Manhattan. I got no foggy memory, I just don't subscribe to your particular brand of bullshit.

  14. When did I say anything about the S79 and what does this have to do with the (R) train?  I just find it interesting how you can use express buses when they're convenient for you but no one else should want to use them for their commute if it makes their commute convenient.  I'm just calling out your hypocrisy.

Also interesting that you claim that you use the (R) yet you've mentioned having used the X28 before but the (R) is supposed to duplicate the X28 so much and be so much slower so then why use it??  <_<

I have literally zero clue as to what you are talking about this point. Seriously, you're trolling hard today. I give up. I'm a meanie and a bad man and hate express buses because they have cooties.

  15. Why bother to wait for it?  You could've taken the subway to the Ferry to the bus or better yet you could've swam to Staten Island.   <_< Us express bus riders don't need our buses after all.

Honestly, what the f**k are you even talking about at this point? Seriously, I know you finally got a great chance to troll, but what was that even supposed to be? When have I said anything about the S79 SBS being bad? What does Staten Island have to do with express buses covering the (R) in Brooklyn when the (R) will still be running (but just require a transfer, THE HORROR). And what do express buses have to do with me going back to Brooklyn? If you're gonna troll, put in more effort than "OH YEAH THE S79 WAS LATE SO HOW DO YOU LIKE EXPRESS BUSES NOW?"

  16. DAFUQ happened in middle Staten Island today around 6-7 PM? S79 SBS (and far as I can tell, the X1) was FUBAR'd beyong belief. Forty-five minutes I waited for a damn bus. First a half-an-hour wait of nothing, then some showed up and didn't stop/let people on. At least one deadheaded empty to Brooklyn (late I guess), one was a "NEXT BUS PLEASE" sardine can, and one was either empty or packed "NEXT BUS PLEASE" that tried to drive behind an X1 so we wouldn't notice. The fourth one finally stopped.

  17. You know the QBL problem could be done away with if they didn't clear out the trains before relaying....

Is there a reason why its mandatory?

Because all it takes is one moron to fall asleep and then panic when the train goes to relay; and sue the (MTA) for millions and win; at which point the fumigation is resumed.

  18. I saw Fresh Pond's reply first..... Then read the first sentence of QJT's post through Fresh Pond's reply... Then considered Fresh Pond's reply.... Then stopped reading the original quoted post.....

From some of y'alls reactions to QJT's post, it looks like I saved a couple seconds (and brain cells)......

So that's what all that jargon entailed?

Q90's (the member) idea of sending B13's to WBP (although I don't agree that should happen either) makes way more sense than combining B13's & Q67's..... smh..... I swear, QJT reads other people's ideas, and somehow someway just HAS to chime in with some nonsensical idea of his own....

It's not that he's posting ideas, it's that he does it to try to one-up the next person... and it backfires on him HARD....

There's a large demographic of oxygen and nitrogen that would totally use 15-mile crosstown highway-based bus routes.

  19. Just now noticed the new "wide turn" buses on the back of the 3Gs in Staten Island have an XD-40 on them. I guess (MTA) anticipates plenty of those coming along. Also saw an (MTA) MCI standing on the side of the highway just south of 86 St in Brooklyn. Was standing on a cutout in the shoulder to the right on northbound direction with hazard lights blinking.
