I took N20 this morning paid cash asked for transfer, took bus to great neck & decided to walk back to glennwood street to take Q12 bus I put transfer in & driver said it was no good, it was within the two hour window, I wanted two bus rides for the price of one. Driver looked at time & just told me "take a seat" I asked him again is it ok to ride he just said "take a seat"

No official yes or no, I always ask for driver permission to ride incase eagle team or fare beater cop on bus.

Although I *should* look through that poster's history before making this statement (I'm not, obviously), I'd venture this person is someone to be called ... um, what is it now? ... a "troll" in internet parlance. Even if just judging by the last "response" put forth (i.e. "Why do birds fly" when someone asks why hi-viz vests are worn), I think I've got at least *some* solid ground to base that conclusion on. Still going with that characterization, though.

 

Back on topic: If this poster is SOOOOOO "proud" of their ride, they would CERTAINLY be showing it off. Hasn't happened, and doesn't look like it will. So, moral of the story, don't hold your breath for anything close to what you're suggesting to come to fruition. I mean, even a PREPAID phone isn't somehow within this poster's grasp to take pictures with? Just sayin' .....

SO proud of the bus he had the engine rebuilt in Florida but the proud owner doesn't own one picture? Even from before his camera broke? I was planning on finding this and if it was him cool see if I could take the bus for a spin, if not tell him there's someone online online posing as the owner telling them to meet him in various places. ...When I say I want to find the bus/go to one of his meet ups it means that I would like to do but probably won't...

 

There was a driving school (forget the name and if it it is in western Nassau or Queens) who bought a NICE Bus V at auction and is using it to train students.

I acquired 1528 though a internet auction bid site I am licensed cdl certified driver.I got 1528 restored in Florida at my buddys repair shop hands down awesome work on her new engine paint job and tail lights.She is used on the weekends to shuttle workers to the farmers market in Calverton.Long beach is my summer home and east meadow I happens to be in yesterday.

Heads up, Tom Meadow, BM5 speaks for a LOT of regulars frequenting this forum (in whole, not just the NICE sub-forum). Heed the words directed your way.

 

I'll back up BM5's words about calling B.S. on this whole "Where's Waldo?" exercise. All of a sudden, you don't have SOME sort of camera or even PREVIOUS pics you've taken??? Not even ones for yourself, if you're such a proud owner, that you could "show off"???? Even BEFORE this planned "tour"??? It's not as if the NICE photo album is bursting at the seams, precluding you from posting.

I think this is the portion of the training where new drivers in training are shown the routes before being cut lose.  I don't know why but a lot of new drivers seem to lost in that little loop (IMO that should be cut out) going to/from Sunrise Mall & Merrick Rd.  Then again I live in the area so I know it well enough.  I know others have asked on this forum why drivers need training on routes like the n19, a rather simple route. Two things, 1) those asking these questions have never and don't realize just how helpful doing the route with someone first telling where to turn is...  2) People on this are bus fans, people who get hired simply aren't, this is a job.  They haven't spendt hours analogizing a bus map or riding routes for fun.  Many are coming from driving a school bus and have ridden a transit bus seldom if ever before they were hired. (this wasn't directed at anyone or to put anyone in this forum down).

 

Another thing to keep in mind, to be hired with NICE you must already have a CDL B with Passenger endorsement to be hired.  This is not the case with the or those hired back with LIB. The would help you get your CDL.  This is good but doing so only gis you a CDL with Passenger endorsement.  Your options in this area are kinda limited if you get fired or quit.  You need a CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsements to drive a school so if you leave NICE you can take the city exam and wait around, or hopefully get hired by Suffolk Transit.

 

A friend of mine who has tried to convince me to go back to driving a school bus has pointed that school bus companies are paying a lot more.  I don't know what the starting rate is at NICE these days but I hear it's higher than NICE at Suffolk Transportation and Bauman.  People like Hound say driving a school bus is "not a real bus."  I used to laugh so hard at these people back when I drove school bus and to tell you the truth I looked down on transit drivers as being the lowest form of bus driver.  Now I don't care and think that's all silly! There are benefits to driving a school bus though, summers off, paid to sit on the couch for 2 months while you make $420 a week for doing nothing, not having scumbags talk down to you, not having to deal with crackheads in Jamaica and Hempstead, every weekend off unless you want the overtime and get paid for hours to sit in the bus, all the overtime you want (very easy to work 40+ hours especially during busy sports times!  They literally will beg you!)...

Is nice bus training the same as mta? With mta I heard it is 7 day training in manhattan. Does nice bus train there drivers In manhattan too?

They got the outdoor trolley last year and the green gillig trolley in april. number 181.The fleet numbers are 150 151 152 para transit buses.169-172 35 foot 2014 gillig brt hybrid also the old and only 172 gillig phantom  stays in the garage.177-178 gillig 30 foot foot brt hybrid 179 gillig trolley 180 out door trolley and 181 green gillig trolley.

You are 100% right he thinks the buses should run is way.I don't work for a bus company so I don't know how hard is being a bus driver.But with pinepower he blames everyone but himself nice bus isn't a taxi company.
