I saw a Facebook post saying it’a the last week for the R42’s. I’m a bit skeptical cause it’s the first I’m hearing about this. Can anyone shed some light?

TBH I would take it with a grain of salt. I HIGHLY Doubt it. With all the R179's problems, and the R211's due next year, we're still technically on a shortage. They're trying to hold onto to the 32's and 42's as long as possible.

  2. This could all be solved by doing one thing. Just run the (3) Express on an extended headway from Franklin to Atlantic and Terminate there and relay to come back south. Have the (2)/(5) run local on Eastern Parkway Local, then up Lex. The (4) would also be Local, but would have to switch after Atlantic ofc, but at least you minimize backing up the Express on EP.

  3. The MTA should REALLY Consider sending those Times Square (3) trains to 34th Street. My (2) got stuck behind one at Times Square for 20 something minutes because someone refused to detrain. RCC does nothing as usual. Its really starting to become an issue, especially now with the 3 being cut back an hour earlier.

  4. The people up at RCC really dropped the ball yesterday during that 12-9 at Brook Ave Last night. Service was crippled on the 1,2,4,5 and 6 yesterday cause of the power off situation. After everything cleared up, people on the 2 were basically stranded for over 2 hours in The Bronx and Manhattan. No trains got turned, and nothing got rerouted to remediate it leaving these nasty gaps. See attached Stringline. stringline.php?r=2&d=N&e=0&t=24&h=2&o=00

Why did they have to suspend all service north of 86th st?

When they removed power on the 6 line, the power limits stretch as far south s 125th, and affected the switch at 149th Street Grand Concourse as well; affecting the 2 and 5 as well as the 4. Technically if the 5 wasn't running, the 2 would've ran fine. Not to mention the 5 was overhanging the switch south of 149 as well

Did they not fix this problem like 3 years ago already? Don't almost all the garbage trains use R32 sets and utilize the Nassau connection to Montauge?

AFAIK, the clearance problem in Montague still remains. Most of those garbage trains that traverse broadway don't use R32's, they use R127/134's most of the time. If it happens to use a 32, it will most likely go via the Bridge.

Why are they banned from Montague?

From what I've heard when redoing the Montague Tube after sandy, they did something with the roof of the tunnel that apparently made the R32's and R42's as well as Museum Trains too tall to enter the tubes, hence why they've been "banned". Not sure of the restriction is uplifted though, probably not.

They do have handbrakes; it is only encased within the lever that controls the brakes.

The NTT's don't have handbrakes, only the SMEE's do. They do however have parking brakes, which (IIRC) is only present when the train is in emergency.

Regarding yesterdays meltdown, someone on reddit posted this video.

I was hoping someone got audio from the meltdown. Just goes to show how crap TA's Radio Comms are. In Dyre situations like this, communication is key. Kudos to the people at RCC though, must've been running around like headless chickens up there lol

  10. Today, on the 6 the express run from hunts point to parkchester, I had up to 53 mph, no joke, it was insane :) whoever said the NTT's or the R142's is difficult to get to 55 mph is wrong, the R142A hit 53 no problem, if it can hit up to 50+ mph going past just 4 stops, just imagine what it could do in the 60 street tube :)

  11. Got on an R142A 6 express train from hunts point avenue to parckchester and using a speedometer app on my phone, I got up 49 mph!!! Insane!!! And on the way back, taking the local train, I clocked the local at 38 mph between st Lawrence and Morrison sound view, the 6 train really hauls ass into longwood, I'd feel about 40 mph into longwood, I love the 6!!!
