  1. How's everything going hockey? Are you liking the job so far?
  2. I had a problem with the examiner on my first try. She was on her cellphone multiple times throughout the road test. I actually had to wait until she finished her conversation for about three minutes after completing my parking and straight backing until she got back on the bus. I told her she was being unprofessional and what she was doing was very distracting. After completing the road test and knowing I passed, she told me I failed with 60 points. I called the DMV right there and filed a complaint against her and got my road test rescheduled for a week later. Passed with 10 points on my second go. Whether or not 6 lessons is enough depends on how you feel about your driving ability. If you're not confident after your 6th lesson and can afford more lessons, consider booking one or two more. Maybe do one on the day of the road test if you have enough time. The extra lessons you take might actually be cheaper than having to rent the bus for the road test and paying the dmv fees again if you don't pass.
  3. I took my CDL road test in January of this year. If you're trying to pass your road test with as few lessons as possible, I recommend you ask your driving instructor if you can record all the pre trip and air brake stuff with your cell phone. That is what I did on my third lesson when I was overwhelmed with the pre trip and I just practiced everything at home. Doing it that way I showed up to my lesson everyday focused on driving rather than having the added pressure of learning all that stuff with my road test looming. I passed my road test with eight lessons.
  4. I don't get it. Don't you get your medical certificate through MTA during the hiring process? I have my CDL B license with A3 restriction. Selected "Excepted Interstate" when I went to the DMV to ammend my drivers license to a class B cdl.
  5. This is the best advice right now for those of us on this list who don't have a CDL, but was planning to get one before getting the call from the MTA. I passed my cdl road test in South Hicksville last week. If you haven't heard yet, NY is planning to change their road test sites and are making it harder. There's a site upstate which has already modified their road test site with the new rules. Got this from a member on City Data Sanitation forum: October 7, 2015 To: Driving School Owners and Instructors, Article 19-A Motor Carriers and Certified Examiners Subject: Changes Regarding NYS Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Road Testing To comply with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), New York State has begun the process of modifying current CDL road testing sites and procedures to achieve consistency with the AAMVA test model criteria as referenced in the final CDL Permit Rule. The New York State Commercial Driver’s Manual (CDL-10 and CDL-10S) covers all of the elements to successfully complete the modified skills test. Careful studying of the manual will lead to the most successful outcomes on the written and skills tests. These manuals can be found online, as well as in any DMV Office, or by calling the NYS DMV Call Center at 518-486-9786. The following are the NYS CDL skills testing modifications:  Tests will be given in three sections in the following order: pre-trip inspection, basic control skills maneuvers, and then the on-road portion;  The test is scored in the three separate sections listed above, with three scores making up a complete test;  If a driver fails any one section, the test is stopped and the driver is failed;  The duration of skills testing appointments has been increased. Depending on a driver, a test may take anywhere from an hour to an hour and 45 minutes to complete.  Engine compartment inspection is a required part of the pre-trip inspection;  For school buses, inspection of the stop arm and safety arm is required;  For school buses, a simulated student discharge is required; and  A simulated Railroad Crossing is required; The first CDL road testing site to be performing the modified testing is the Cobleskill CDL site located at the Sunshine Fairgrounds, Sunshine Pkwy at Sunshine Drive, Cobleskill, NY 12043. The information referenced above is now provided to applicants with their confirmation information. As additional sites are being modified this information will be provided with the applicant’s confirmation information. We anticipate gradually adding new sites after the first quarter of 2016. We will continue to provide updates to our industry partners as they become available. Please share this information with the appropriate members of your staff. Thank you
  6. Thanks Young. I thought the DOT medical was a requirement with the new changes. I have two wrong on exam 4600 and a list number in the 3600's on the Sanitation exam. I've been meaning to go for the cdl for a while now waiting for the 4600 list. I have a decent shot in a few years with sanitation with that list number as well. Too much waiting. I just want to get something done while we continue to wait and that something is the CDL. Thanks again.
  7. I'm going for my cdl permit next week and plan to take the road test before the end of the year. Can anyone explain the recent changes in regards to the medical report/certificate? Is it required to get the permit? What about to take lessons at a driving school or at the time of the road test? My current employment doesn't involve operating a commercial vehicle. I just want to get it ahead of time in preparation for the MTA and Sanitation. Going for general knowledge, air brakes, passenger, and tanker endorsements.
  8. Cool thanks man. After the accident I was thinking about this job more than my car. Had me stressed out.
  9. Hey guys. I got side swiped by a hit and run driver over the weekend. Called the cops and they filed an accident report and complaint report. Anyone know if this will affect me negatively for MTA bus operator? Got two wrong on exam 4600 so I would imagine the accident will be on my record about time MTA calls.
  10. My random number for exam 4105 is 477X. What's your number for exam 4105, hockey? That's crazy to think there are still people who haven't taken the BOSS for 4600 yet. The line to get in the school went around the entire block that day.
  11. I took the BOSS for exam 4600 as well. Also applied for and received the letter to take the BOSS for 4105. I don't know for sure if we passed or failed but I'm thinking it's just that the two exams were given close together. MTA probably haven't even scored the BOSS for 4600 yet. We probably wouldn't be taking it for 4105 if 4600 was given a few months earlier. At least that's what I'm telling myself lol.
  12. Good to hear. Congratulations on getting hired.
  13. You can only renew a cdl permit once. If you let it expire again then you will need to take the tests again.
  14. I understand they need a longer list after so many people failed 2613. At least put 6-10 CDL or points of interests questions on the test so people who actually give a damn and prepared can be higher on the list.
  15. Yeah I hear you man. A lot of us spent a lot of time preparing for this test and it ends up not being very competitive. Anybody off the street could of literally passed this test. I understand the MTA needs candidates after 2613 but at least throw in some cdl and points of interest questions so the people who prepared can get a better score.
  16. Thanks for letting us know guys. Heading to James Madison in a few minutes a little calmer than before.
  17. Headways. It's Lesson 3 in my book and starts on 1-14. First question reads: Answer the following 6 questions based on the Headway schedule shown above. There's 15 questions total.
  18. Ok thanks. I'm gonna email them and see if I can get the answers.
  19. I have a question for the people who attended the exam preparation class this past Saturday in Ozone Park. I just went over the booklet we received in the class and realized I have unanswered questions in Lesson 3-Headway pages 1-14 through 1-16. I was there on time and back from the break we had early so I'm unsure how I missed these questions. Can anyone check their booklet and see if we didn't go over the answers to those questions during the class or if it's just me?
  20. To people who took exam 2613, how long did it take for you to get your test results?
  21. I have the same letter as you. How much time given for the test is not listed. Also, exam type is listed as "Written". Shouldn't it say multiple choice? Can someone with a different letter check if theirs is Written or Multiple choice?
  22. I would think everyone should have received their admission letter by now. If not, you should go to 180 Livingston Street in Brooklyn and find out what's going on.
  23. I emailed them about the class on Dec 7 and I was told the class is $85 not $75. Here's the response email I received: We are holding a 6 hour one day class on November 23rd & December 4th in Staten Island at 3948 Amboy Rd ATU UNION HALL December 7th at The Christ Lutheran Center - 85-15 101st Ave in Ozone Park Queens, NY 11416 which will include our book.
