  1. 7840 from Oradell covered a trip on the 186 this morning from Dumont to the bridge. Oradell also covered a trip yesterday morning on the 145 but I forgot the bus number. I operated both trips.
  2. LMAO, can you imagine an MCI on the 13??? It would not last three blocks before those seats got all tore up lol! Anyways, yeah 1000 in the Clever Device basically gets you all the garage names, plus "New York City"/"New York PA Bus Terminal"/"New York Wall Street"/"Newark Penn Station"/"Student Driver"/"Shuttle" and a few others.
  3. Lol, that reminds me of when the pullout person at Market St gave me a NABI suburban for the 164X because there were no MCI's available... oh yes, I got lots and lots of strange looks and snarky comments that morning! BTW, I have since made full time at Oradell.
  4. Great, so now if the Clever Device acts up, the fare register and radio will go with it? Not that the radios even work half the time anyway... I do like the automatic zone changes though. Sometimes it's easy to forget to change the zone on the register, especially if you don't do the same line every day (extra board, vacation relief, etc)
  5. 5897 and 5898 are currently at Market Street, most likely on loan. They have the "bed bug proof" seats. And Market Street *is* helping out on the 126 as well...
  6. Lots of people who live in Union City work hourly jobs in various North Jersey communities.
  7. Now it is, but that number also belonged to a 1982-84 MC-9A: http://gallery.bustalk.info/albums/userpics/10001/mid_new_jersey_transit_6224a.JPG
  8. I can't speak authoritatively for the 45's since I was never trained on them but they can fit in a lot more places than some may realize. The streets along the 126 line can't be much tighter than those in Paterson, and 45's are routinely used on the 190 and 161. I know for a fact that 45's can fit into Market Street Garage (Wayne sends them over for maintenance from time to time), which means they can negotiate those tighter as hell turns on Grand, Spruce and Market, and the turn from Main onto Van Houten Street, and in and out of Broadway Terminal.
  9. If anybody was keeping tabs, 5434 was on the 164X this morning. I know because I was the one operating it ;-)
  10. Market Street also helps out on the 126 from time to time... they don't have regular runs or trippers - it's more of an as-needed basis.
  11. At least a dozen or so Novas suddenly (re)appeared at Market Street over the weekend... apparently they are being prepped for Super Bowl duty. Not sure what exactly they'll be doing, though. They look to be 1400's.
  12. The run number is the magic code - the clever device is programmed with whatever the run is supposed to do, including the deadheads. Some runs cover different lines. This is all in the clever device, and reflected in the paddle. When signing on the clever device, you enter the line and run number and the device does the rest, including automatically changing the signs at the end of each trip. Sometimes, however, the run numbers don't work for whatever reason, so you have to enter the line and run number manually and change the sign at the end of each trip.
  13. Also of note is that Meadowlands Sports Complex service is being shifted to the 160 from the 164. I knew about the 160 serving the sports complex but didn't realize they were eliminating it from the 164, although I guess it makes sense. To have three lines (160, 164 and 703) all serve it seems like overkill.
  14. Not an official map, but the product of a dedicated individual (not me, lol!) Here you go: http://www.dougandadrienne.info/njbus/
  15. The 197 is a nice ride. Very rural once you get past Ringwood, and you almost forget you're on NJ Transit. The 196 is a nice ride too - nice long express ride out of the Port up the Turnpike, 80, then 208 to Skyline Drive. I also rode the 410 once in South Jersey from Bridgeton into Philadelphia - that was even more bizarre, riding mile after mile along NJ-77 with nothing but farmland on both sides, like the middle of Nebraska or something lol! BTW, speaking of Wayne Garage, here is an article from 2000, when Wayne opened. There was some concern that NJT would abandon service to Warwick because of the long deadhead from Wayne - at the time the 196 and 197 came out of the Warwick Garage. http://www.recordonline.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20000425/NEWS/304259988&cid=sitesearch
  16. Just as a heads up, the 160 will begin running all day service 7 days per week beginning 11 January. Along with the change will include service to the Meadowlands. There is nothing on the NJT website about it yet but it's true.
