  1. Nope, (E) is 100% R160

     

    I haven't seen any R160s on the (R) in a while (or any 68s on the (N) ), but they aren't PROHIBITED from operating there.

     

    I believe that the R160s make up about 15% of the (R) (usually random), and there is one or two R68s on the (N) that come out at scheduled times.

     

    Real Talk Your right...I remember that i think it lasted a couple of wkends tho...But i was shocked to see up and down the line was an R46 on the  (E)

     

    What was it about? Unfortunately I just moved from Astoria to Flushing/Forest Hills that time and didn't know about the Q64 to Forest Hills. Plus, I rarely rode the subway.

  2. elephants are mating on the (2)(5) line right where they go above ground, just north of the 149th St-3rd Ave Station.

    Lines affected: (2)(5)

     

     

    WTF? Please be more realistic next time...

     

    No (2)(5) service between Jackson Av and 3rd Av-149th St.

     

    (5) trains runs as a shuttle in the Bronx.

    (2) trains terminate at Jackson Av and run express towards Wakefield until E180th St.

  3. Saw the same garbage train thrice today. I took bad phone pics of it at QP on the Queens bound track, the garbage train left, my (E) came and ran slowly and at Roosevelt there was the garbage train. I saw in the third time at CTL on the manhattan bound track.

    The reason why I didn't have my camera was because my dad was borrowing it.

    On the (7) it was interesting to listen to some tourists' conversation on the subway.

    One of the kids made a really stupid comment. Does the same person operating the train do it at all times?

  4. Seems there are more R188's now then R62A's. I wonder, does anybody know when the last R62A in service will be used on the last run? Like when the RedBird did it's final run to Times Square?

     

    Is it just me, or did this complicated story strike once again to me?

     

    Stage One: News of new cars come in.

    Stage Two: About 10% of the line is filled with new cars.

    Stage Three: I try to ride one. 30%

    Stage Four: I finally ride one. 40%

    Stage Five: I ride a new car almost every time. 70%

    Stage Six: All old cars are gone. I miss them.

     

    Yup. Happened with the Orion V and the C40LF and is happening right now with R188s. Might happen with R62A on the (6).

  5. This is what people should think about first before discussing an SBS route.

     

    Requirements For A Bus To Be A Good Candidate For SBS:

    • Isolated.

    • Has a Major Street It Stays On.

    • Has Artics.

    • Has All Day Limited Service.

    • Has High Ridership.

    • Has Steady Ridership Along the Line.

     

    I will use the Q44 as an example. The Q44 meets all requirements. It is isolated (Q20 doesn't affect the Q44 that much), stays on one single street, uses artics, has all day limited service, high ridership, and IIRC, a steady amount of ridership along the line.

     

    Now take the Q25.

     

    The Q25 is not isolated. It runs with the Q17, the Q27, and the Q34, which often bunches with a Q25 local sharing the same exact route. They are not scheduled properly and Q25 will have uneven ridership. It does have one major street, which is good. However, it has only rush hour limited, nor does it have artics and doesn't warrent one. The Q25 will often be empty on weekends, but it needs the 10-15 service because by the time it gets to northern Kissena, it will be nearly packed.

     

    Now, if you don't mind, stop saying the Q25 should recieve SBS. Not saying anyone is doing it, but...

    Not to bring up the previous debate concerning this topic, but do bus drivers seem creeped out when a camera is pointed at them, like they try to hide their face for example, or do some just accept it?

     

    It looks like they ignore it. They have to ignore it. Example: Firefighters have to ignore their fear to run into the fire to save people and put the fire out. Otherwise, they aren't doing their job properly.

  6. RTS 9112 on the Q17 today had its back signed up as a B14. Saw the bus going to school and saw it again coming back home. What a coincidence.  :wacko:

     

    And also, there was an RTS 9xxx on the Q17 that is half black, half white on the back, saw it twice. What bus is that?


    All these I've seen occasionally, but one route that does TOO MUCH is the Q44. Going through about 4 major transfer points, two in each borough as well as at both terminals. I'm actually a bit surprised it didn't make the top 10 busiest routes in NYC.

  7. A sinkhole develops near Broadway Junction and destroyes the complex AND the yard. At the same time, Fresh Pond and Canarsie are undergoing construction to build emergency repair rooms, so all trains are trapped in ENY Yard. 

     

    BONUS #1: Reroute the buses as well.

    BONUS #2: An R46 (F) malfunctions after leaving the station, and all brakes are out of order, causing it to run at a steady 15 mph (they quickly realized they were without brakes). It somehow doesn't trip, and makes its way to Myrtle Av, derailing at the junction.

     

    Now this is a little harder because this yard is responsible for the (J)(L)(M)(Z) and not a lot can actually substitute for it. 

  8. Yeah drivers are still allowed to take their usual break after they complete a run. So imagine if a bus is running very late and another one just a few minutes. They arrive at the terminal and leave at the same time and they both hit traffic and have to pick up and drop off people. The third bus might be behind them and that is how these routes are always bunched up throughout the day. This occurs on the Q25 a lot. I just hate those middle school kids from 237 that get on the bus because they are soo loud and annoying. The drivers always talk about how they want to skip that stop. I'm lucky to be going to college next year which hopefully means I can avoid the Q25 or Q17/ Q88 which show up late and always bunch up.

    The Q64 is one of the few routes in the city that actually shows up on time. The worst I've been on was the Q56. You can wait an hour for the bus and that is because they want people to use the (J)

     

    That's because it is very short, and has very frequent service. The frequent service hides the fact that it is bunched up, but at Kissena, you can see the stop just fill up, drain into a bus, then a second bus comes 30 seconds later empty.

     

    Yeah I just wish 237 didn't have to be so... so immature. And 30% immature is enough to cause trouble.

     

    They are doing the school trippers in the wrong direction. They should send some extra Q25 or Q17 down there to pick up the kids. Maybe from Flushing or Holly then down to Fresh Meadows, or for the Q25, I think they should just keep going down.

  9. I've never noticed how useful it is to know the number of a bus. Not really.  :P

     

    I once rode C40LF 555 on Q25 to school. Made a comment about Q44 SBS on it. On Saturday, saw 555 again! I was like, oh, hey! I rode that bus before! Then 3 hours later sat in Dunkin Donuts for like an hour. Saw 555 again in the opposite direction! :o

     

    Then I saw LFS 8050 and 8068 bunched in a pair on the Q17. I stayed long enough to see it come back in the opposite direction, still bunched.

  10. At 67 Av (IND QBL) during the middle of the night, a structural fault causes the mezzanine and street to collapse into the tunnel, blocking access to Jamaica Yard. Reroute, and figure out how to deal with the lack of trains. Trucking them elsewhere is not acceptable for this scenario.

     

    P.S. Q60 SBS, if for whatever reason this comes to mind, is not allowed

     

    Shuttle bus SBS along the line.

    (B) suspended.

    (C) suspended.

    (E) to Euclid. Borrow cars from (C). QB Local and terminates at Roosevelt.

    (F) terminates at Roosevelt. Borrow cars from (B) and if really needed, the (G).

    (G) reduced service.

    (M) to Queens Plaza. Cars can be borrowed from (Z) if really needed.

    (Z) suspended if (M) really needs its cars.

    (R) shuttle.

    (D) 4th Av Local.

    (N) Local.

    (Q) Local.

     

    Q60 rerouted onto Broadway, Roosevelt, back to Queens Blvd.

    Q52 extended via Q60 to where Q104 terminates.

     

    This is what I imagined. Pretty chaotic as Jamaica Yard is very large and holds many trains.
