  1. Quick question. ..they are going to be hiring off the promotional list first...I heard the promotion list is made up of Bus Operators who take the Train Operator exam..is this true? Also would the 5 year work requirement still stand if taking a promotional? Currently on Bus Operator 4600 hiring list. ...will be interested taking the promotional next time around if true.
  2. How disappointing. Looks like I wont be qualified. What a disappointment this morning, was really looking forward to taking this test...I did not know it required such qualifications before hand...ugh. moving on...:'(
  3. Wow, UNBELIEVABLE! Ive been waiting for months for this Train Operator exam, now I findout it requires 5 years of work experience?? I dont have 5 years or anything really close to it...does this mean I am offically out the running for this job? If so, anyway around it?
  4. Thank you good sir, always there for us with accurate and excellent info. Much appreciated, Young.
  5. About to apply to Red Hook On the Road for this CDL!! Excited! I wonder if they will know exactly the endorsements I will need because i am still confused by it... any tips before I apply? Also, any updates with 4600? I know 200 letters to the first few got sent out awhile back. Goodluck to all, cheers. list #31**
  6. Forgot to mention!! I took a NYC Corrections Officer exam a few weeks ago, I am actually very I interested in taking that job when they call me...the OT in Corrections is ridiculous and I am sorry guys id rather get in on it lol. question, if by the time they reach my list number (low 3000s) and I am not ready to take the job, is it possible to put my spot on hold and take the job in the future?
  7. Hey guys, sorry if I am behind on the news, but whats going on with 4600? I heard they've sent on letters to the first 300 candidates? I am list 3000, havent persued my CDL yet...
  8. Goodluck to all you, things are finally starting to move for 4600. so just to reiterate, while we wait to be called it would be wise to gather any documents needed to start the hiring process. Since this is my first time dealing with the civil service hiring process, what kind of documents will be needed? Also, starting my CDL process now, will probably choose Ferrari school in RedHook... Goodluck all!
  9. Thanks for taking the time to answer everyones eager questions!!
  10. Thank you for the reply Young, have people in past BO exams been hired with list numbers in the 3000s aswell? I am not sure how far MTA usually goes into lists, I know DSNY is highly competitive and they usually call about 4000... I guess I am not completely confident in my list number of 31xx...I should definitely expect to be called or am I in a "wait and see" crowd?
  11. Just got my letter...list number 31××...is this good enough guys? Says I scored a 93.3...good enough to get called??
  12. Any news on 4600? Around December and January is the estimated time we were suppose to hear back. This is pretty bad. We took the exam more than 2 years ago, and with still no results or any notice. There are going ti be alot of angry people who waited for 2 years only to be given a bad test result/list number.
  13. Hmm curious if you stay with the route you are assigned everyday? Obviously somedays youll have to take on different routes, but the majority of the time do you stay with you 1 assigned route most of your career? I remember riding the bus to school as a teenager, id see the same Bus Operators consistantly everyday.
  14. Also, the option is always there to go out on your own time and really learn the routes. I plan on going out on my free time (days off) and really learning the routes with my personal car for a few months. This way the job can become more of a joy then stressful.
  15. Hockeyplayer9, excellent helpful post thank you!!! Pretty much answered my questions! How are you liking your time on the job thus far? Finding it easy to do, stressful? Also is it a 5 days a week job and what do the shifts look like (8 to 4, 4 to 12 etc etc)....Thanks!!! Cant wait to get results already.
  16. Been thinking about this and curious as to some of the more finer details of a BOs duties...how long is a typical bus route? Does the BO constantly keep doing the route over and over until the shift is done? Also whats the schedules/shifts look like? I am one to really hit Overtime hard so I hope MTA does not limit me on that lol.
  17. DueceDrives thanks a ton for putting my mind at ease with it! This forum has really been informative and you guys have been great with helping us hopefuls get on the job someday! Thanks again.
  18. Thanks for the reply guys!!! Happy that Ill be considered for appointment as early as 2016, thought I wouldve had a decent wait with 4 wrong... something thats been on my mind though is bus routes...I am relatively new to NYC (moved from LI) and I am by NO MEANS a expert with navigating around the city. I literally only know 1 or 2 bus routes in NYC..will this be a problem coming in? I doubt the MTA will just throw you into a route without training for it? How does it work? Id hate to get lost with a bus full of people trying to get to work...
  19. So guys, last few days ive been feeling VERY excited about this job. We are T-minus 4 months until we get results back and more of accurate time table when to expect to be hired..just a few questions...what will the TAKE HOME pay be like for the first year? If my calculations are correct we can expect about 620 a week take home for a 40hr work week? Just trying to crunch a budget for the first year... also, I had 4 wrong on the exam and feel I did really well on the BOSS examination...do my chances look solid? Need some honest opinions... Havent attempted to get my CDL yet as I am waiting for list numbers before I make any sort of moves. In the meantime what can someone do to prepare for this job? Memorize the bus lines? thanks all and goodluck to 4600!!!!!
  20. I would love too..but its kinda hard to do that when the city is taking 100 years just to give us our results. I am slowly giving up on 4600 as itll take another 9 months just to see if you have a shot at the job. Wouldnt be a happy camper getting the CDL just to be 15000 on the list. Had 4 wrong on the test.
  21. Will do subwayfan, just looked at those links and its very interesting. Didnt know MTA buses are now fitted with plexiglass barrier! Thats great to hear and im definitely all for it! Gosh been so long since ive ridden on a bus.
  22. Hey guys, patiently waiting for 4600 is get a move on already...I jave some questions for the men and woman OTJ right now... whats the take home pay like as a bus operator? I am trying to calculate a budget if/when I get the job (I had 4 wrong on the test), so I am curious what the pay is AFTER taxes every week/biweekly...starting pay and max pay id appreciate it.. also, how is the job overall? Do you guys like it? I assumed driving the bus becomes second nature the more and more you get experience on the job? Is driving the bus the only real responsibilty of this job? An overall summary of the job itself would be great... last question!!! For those of us who dont know all the streets of NYC by heart, how do you learn the routes they give to you? I understand you get turnsheets but is that all the training you get for a specific route?? If someone on the job can answers these questions for me itd really help me to know what to expect...thanks guya.
  23. I also recieved a phone call and a email about the 9 month wait. Personally, I think its ridiculous, 9 months? Really? Its been a year and a half and now it will take more than 2 years just to recieve RESULTS. Thats crazy. Also, DueceDrives, I know you said everyone who took the exam should get a CDL right away, but what if we dont get called for the job? I am on the fence weather or not i should get my CDL without even knowing my results and if ill ever get hired. Could be a big waste of money and time..thoughts? I apologize if this post sounds negative lol, I just really want to know my chances in getting this job and its really dragging out. I had 4 wrong on the test.
  24. yeah. It just makes no sense. Theres NO way MTA will hire or even call EVERYONE who passed. The way it works is list number order, the best scorers will be placed highest of the list, thus called first. Usually with these city exams the city only calls up to list numbers 5000s...if someone who passed with a 70 but his or her list number is 20,000 they will NOT be called or hired.
  25. hmm, how? If someone passed with a 80 but their list number is in the 10,000s how would they possibly be called?
