  1. Got our tools, manuals, vests etc. yesterday. Good thing I invested in a strong backpack. Already have to study for quiz on Tues. Yeah they gave us off Monday. Kinda sucks, but we're newbies, so I understand. One thing I want ask is, what is the best method of holding the keys. Keyrings on a bigger clip? Keep the keys seperated? What was some of the methods used? Oh yeah, we're also doing track safety & getting radio's & masks on Tues too.
  2. @ceerock, I will let the union answer that question. Right now, I will say no. Just have a ticket readily available.
  3. @ceerock congrats. Dress code is as followed. (Until you get your uniforms) light blue button down dress shirt, I got 2 at walmart for $24. Dark blue pants....I mean pants, not dress jeans. Shoes or boots, black. You get your ID card which is also your employee metrocard. Yes, you ride for free.
  4. @VinnySea pay scale is the same. Hours are based on a 40hr work week X2. You get paid bi-weekly. For school, its a 40hr work week.........sometimes. I'm already getting OT for training. Hours of work are based when you get put into groups. 7am-3pm or 3p-11p. That also could change based on your instructor. You could be doing overnight training. I'm just going to tell you this......and this was info given to me.......do not expect to be home the same time everytime . First week....sure, you'll finish you day at either 4pm or 3pm, depending on the day.(Orientation, Union end at 4pm). Once in school car....all instructor based. Yes the school you mentioned is the one we are at and no you have to park on the street. From my experience today, if you are expected at school at 7am, get there by 5:30. It gives you enough time to find parking and get to school EARLY!!! Cannot stress this enough. BE EARLY. From day one at orientation....be EARLY!!. If you have to drive, plenty of parking lots by livingston st. By the school, its all on you.
  5. @Far Rock Depot In school car for T/O. B Div. To be accurate, this class has 42 T/O's. 32 in B Div & 10 in A Div.
  6. Got our groups. Tomorrow is tools & shoes and other info. Like the vets are saying...you should not be late. Come early. Even if you are just getting medicals done, SHOW UP TO EVERYTHING EARLY!!! Lateness is not tolerated. Just do what you are told to do. Today was interesting. Be early, dress neat.....tuck in your shirts, take the hats off & be respectable. TSS's emphasized........things wont be tolerated.
  7. Thanks @SubwayGuy. Word of advice to anyone coming to the school who is new, like myself......take the trains. Unfortunately, had a an equipment problem with LIRR this morning which forced me to drive. Took me 25 mins of driving up & down streets to find a spot. If you have to drive, give yourself extra time, otherwise take the train
  8. Hey guys new to the thread, but read alot of the posts. Tomorrow is my first day at school car. I hope I can come here for advice and/or tips.
  9. Today I gotta admit....you could see who wants it bad, & who looks at it as just a job & a paycheck. Tomorrow is 1st day of school car. We're gonna get broken up into groups. I hope I'm in a group of some of the ppl that have the passion I have.
  10. Day 3, full day at the Union. @3rd Rail, nah he never did. I still like the fact that when we were finished being measured & the "come to jesus" meeting happened, towards the end, dont know if you caught it, but she made reference as to how when the uniforms arrive, they are hardly ever correct with the sizes.
  11. Congrats @VinnieSea. Welcome. Word of advice.......start reading your blue Rule book. Especially chapters 2 & 3. Those are a good place to get started. Also from what was said, looks like B div is getting the push this time as far as picks..
  12. Ok.....where were you sitting......I was up front....dude with the hat got picked on big time. A DIV or B DiV?
  13. Just got my division......I got B div. We had a choice. 10 went A Div, 32 went to B div. Living on L.I.....it makes sense. If there's anything to keep my eyes open for, expect, any and all advice is greatly appreciated.
  14. To the vets of the company, already learning a valuable lesson on who to distance myself from in school just from orientation. Alot of sleepers.......literally sleeping during some important stuff. If you can't stay awake during a discussion about what to do & not do, how are you gonna stay awake in class? But making some good acquaintances. Guys who have a passion like I do. Hoping they dont split us up.
  15. Thanks @SubwayGuy. Again this is the reason I come on this board.....to get advice, info etc. Also with regards to pay, unfortunately, at the current pay the MTA is starting me at, this is a step up the the almost $20hr I was making before and this is coming from a guy that was living paycheck to paycheck. So with that said, bet your a$$ I will be doing everything in my power to finish school & perform highly. This is a serious career & peoples lives will be my responsibility.
  16. @3rdRail you were there today?.....holy crap, who else is there? Full house today. More paperwork to go through in the AM.
  17. A very long day. Get there early, follow their instructions. You'll do fine. Bring every piece of paperwork with you & bring something to drink & snack on.
  18. Day 1 in the books. Gotta tell ya.....lots of listening, paperwork & sleepy ppl.
  19. @trainman I'll find out for you today. @HopefulTO TY, about to head out. Got about 3hrs sleep last night. Nerves, adrenalin, whatever.......just excited about today.
  20. @Pelham25 I wish I could tell you exactly what # they are up to, but I will tell you this, when they call you, its about 5-7 days in between when they call you & the day they want you to show up for medical & processing.
  21. Dont know exactly what list # called was, but mine was #275X, heading for my first day tomorrow. I'm sure there will be alot of questions I will be asking as the week progresses.
  22. Its all good @mard. Payed holiday or only a day off, its all good. Just relieved to finally have this opportunity. An opportunity to do something I've always wanted to do. Alot of ppl rarely live out chance.
  23. Just found out some info. Wow, starting on Monday, go through the motions.....orientation days, union day, etc on the first week......instantly....3 DAY WEEKEND due to Labor day and payed holiday & school not happening on that day. At least thats what I was told. Better enjoy it now, wont see much of those days.
  24. Got questions for the guys who started in July or any previous new guys..... About to start on Monday for Aug class. 1. It says to wear a blue button down dress shirt......Light blue or dark blue? 2. Blue or black pants.......now I have both black dress pants and navy blue cargo slacks. Which would be preferred? 3. What as far as docs or paperwork besides my payroll hire sheet should I bring with me? 4. About how far into the 1st week will we get our uniforms? 5. Doing a lot of OT on my final week at current job to have a some extra cash, from day one till when is a first paycheck?,
  25. One week to go, & then I start my new career. For those waiting, be patient. I've waited 5 years to be called and I always would think, "I'm never gonna get a letter, I'm never gonna get that call", but when you get that letter, things get put into motion. Finally when you get that call, & you go down for the medical and sign all the papers and get pics and prints taken......trust me, you feel like the wait was worth it. From what I can tell, the last # certified was 4618. To say that they will get that far.....could happen. But from what I was told, when I said to my interviewer, " I thought this day would never come", he told me, " Alot of ppl thought that too but what they fail to realize is the list doesnt expire until 9/2016. So from now until then, we will still be calling people up" Unless something comes up, I can see that happening.
