Oh I made sure to check the definitions and ensure they were identical to the booklets.  If not, I made the changes or entered it correctly.  From practice writing tests I was able to double check.  I found one that I had written incorrectly at the beginning.

I too don’t want to be overconfident.  That’s why I still practice daily plus didn’t learn everything too early.  Must keep the mind active and learning fresh items.  As said, it got easier moving along to absorb.

Thanks @drenyce311 I’m definitely going to take my time and recheck everything.  And the instructor mentioned how it’s get harder and this is nothing compared to what’s ahead, lol.  It’s definitely hard work but not impossible.  The benefits will outweigh the toiling.

Of course it’s not impossible. It’s not impossible to fail out as well. So far one in each class this year has failed out in the final. Gotta be on top of the studying. Could be nerves, bad test takers.

@Iwetoddit I'm absolutely ready to tackle this exam asap. At first I was very nervous based on the amount of information we had to know in 5 weeks, but like you said the brain is an amazing muscle, I know everything at this point and just review everyday after work for a few hours to retain it all. I must admit that I seriously surprised myself. I studied everyday for anywhere from 4 hours to somedays 8 hours, and its weird because it does not feel like tedious work, I actually look forward to going home to study everyday (go figure). Retaining the information definitely got easier as time went on. I'm just ready to take this exam already, what I'm actually kind of worried about is going into the exam overconfident and making a stupid mistake, I have to make sure that I go over the exam multiple times before turning it in.

Re read and once your done. Wait like 3-4 minutes to get your mind out of focus then go through the exam with a fine tooth comb for mistakes. Always go with your gut. I caught one mistake. Then corrected it. If you guys think it’s going to get better. It’s going to get worse. Lol.

IKR was just reading an article about it this morning lol , they jelly 😛

It’s been kind of crazy the last few weeks. OT is being monitored. Plus there’s an abundance of engineers. Not much OT out there. Hopefully a bunch of old timers retire

I would say that these opportunities are few and far in between.  Instructor at my overview said that there is a need for new engineers in LIRR.  DRENYCE311 has been most helpful and insightful on many things.  I would trust his information esp since he is guiding us from within and experience.

Good luck with Metro North but they seem to require a lot more in terms of experience for their locomotive engineers candidates.

Well said. I would’ve came to the open house. And still took the exam if and when they call. It would a lot easier to transition from LIRR to MNRR when the time came. But you would ha e to be here 1 year after you qualify.

Good luck to all who took the test today. I was invited but turned it down because I'm expecting to take the metro north engineer exam later on in the year. I applied to that last week.

Not sure if you knew but the metro north engineer classes were canceled for the remaining year.

Thanks Steven and dre for the responses, also is there a specific place to go or special entrance we must use once we get there?

If your taking the train. Just follow the crowd upstairs. Show security your letter. If your parking in the street. Know where the security gate is. He’s going to need to see the invitation letter. He will tell you where to go.

Are any of you guys familiar with the hillside facility?  Is there a parking lot that we can use? If not is parking available around the area?

Parking is for employees only. Your gonna have to park on or off of Dunkirk Ave. Once your in phase 1. The instructor will open the gates for you to park in the employee lot for class. Your better off taking the train to Hillside. Remember. If your late by a minute, you will be sent home. The doors close “EXACTLY” at the time stated in the invitation.

    Good morning friends,

I recently got the email to participate in the "Locomotive Engineer Trainee" exam on May 6, 2019. Any tips on what I should study?

Will they be testing on LIRR specific questions or will it be a reading/writing/comprehension (No LIRR specific material)? Any input will help. Thank you and Good Luck!!

Nothing LIRR related. You can’t study or prepare for this test. It’s more of a “common sense, can you comprehend and follow instructions” kind of test.

For Metro North?? Not sure. It can be a year or more. Or maybe less. Not sure.

I spoke to someone at MNRR. He said just apply for the next one to be in the pool of candidates. He thinks they’re trying to compile a list of candidates for when this resume again.

I went to the Open House in April, passed the tests and had the interview,  I see that people from that Open House have been invited to Phase 1 training starting in May and another Open House is scheduled in May.  Does this mean that those of us not invited to Phase 1 training from the April Open House should not expect to ever receive an invitation to Phase 1 training?

Could be they scored higher than you, they didn’t like your answers in the interview. It’s all based on scores and answers. Good luck. No news is good news. Maybe you were at the bottom and will probably be called for the next one.

Ok gotcha, so we actually get paid for phase 1 and 2? And so phase 2 is Monday - Friday then ?

Phase 1 is unpaid. But you do compensated for phase 1 after you graduate. Once you start phase 2. You start  accumulating hours. Mostly you’ll start on a Wednesday since that’s the beginning of the pay period.

Yes, I received my invite to the S&D also.  Very excited!  Getting myself mentally prepared to buckle down and study.  My fiancée is going to have to adjust.

We were supposed to get married next year.  Should I continue with that planning?

I would reschedule when that time comes. Or make sure it falls on a weekend. you could forget about going on a honeymoon. That’s going to have to wait until you qualify. And it’s gonna be in January.
