  1. they're popping engineers out like it's nobodies business. My class graduated in December of 2016. 9 of 12 made it. The class behind me just graduated. 6 of 10 made it. As for being in the pool for candidates. If you scored a perfect 100 on each part of the signals and definitions. You will definitely get called first. I went for the perfect score. If you scored a 100 on signals and got at least 1 wrong on the definitions. You'll have to wait a little longer. But they told us at my overview. Those who score 100 on each part will get called first.
  2. it's not a brain buster. But you need common sense to pass it. Your not gonna finish the whole test but those who say they finished it. Never make it to the next step. There's no way to prepare for it. Just go in relax and take READ the instructions and what they're asking of you to do.
  3. It was more sit down and stare into some machine. Lol. Don't believe the contract. It's 60% of the salary. I think it's going to get worse when they negotiate a new contract. It sucks.
  4. I wear glasses. The test was a near sighted test and a color test. The famous numbers in the circle. And they also check your peripheral vision. As for the specs. Not sure. I took the test with and without my glasses. Passed both times.
  5. A little backstory. Age 32 when I started, have 2 boys ages 7 and 5, have a sick fiancé, went through it all during the last 2 years. Car accident, engine blown 2 days before phase 1, grandfather passed away, financial hardship, at the same time had parent duties when I came home. I too was in a situation where I had a decent job where I was there for 12 years. And I pondered many times where do I see myself with the company. Saw myself going no where. My drive was to better my current situation. Once I qualified, the situation got much better, getting ahead, the hours do suck, but everyday is a new day, you'll be home to take them to school or pick them up. It gets better. But the drive I had to succeed not just for me but for my family made it all worth it. Also another classmate has. 3 year old and a baby after phase 1. Made it through the program despite everything. When everything's on the table. We persevere. It does get overwhelming, but it was all worth it.
  6. Good luck. Keep studying. Not sure how many weeks they're giving you guys to study the material. They gave us 4 weeks. Don't get overwhelmed with the info. It's doable. I had everything memorized by the end of the 3rd week. 4th week was review. Also start memorizing the easy ones first.
  7. Nice! Don't put the studying down. Keep at it at least 1-2 a week.
  8. its down to 8. Theyre still in Phase 1. They go up for the test tomorrow. My class we start qualifying on Monday for the next three weeks.
  9. It is the last one of the year. My class is next to graduate in 2 months. The next class graduates sometime in April.
  10. December can't came fast enough

  11. i would suggest to go through the information at least twice a week until you here from them. Keep studying. Its one of those "If you dont hear from us, its probably still good news!" When I was going through the signals and definitions overview, they mentioned those who scored 100% will get called first to be the class, then the those who scored 85% or higher on the definitions portion will be placed in the next class. 100% on signals. They don't tell your score, just that you passed. Even since the Business Service took over the hiring process, its different than it was before i hear. they told us from my signals and definition overview that 9 passed out of 19. and the next class only 3 passed to complete my class for phase 1. How they select the candidates on the interview, I have no idea. my group is a mixture of different test dates. Best of luck to all.
  12. Good luck to all. From a person who's in the LIRR training program. Keep studying. One of the most stressful and toughest things I have ever done. Just bare it for a year and your all set. Im almost done a few more months to go. But keep it up, dont lose the information, you will get tested every month on it until the end.
  13. same for the LET position. If you have a family member you have to sign a disclosure form.
  14. Pretty much about 960 rules. In phase 2 it's the whole book or rules, special instructions, air brakes, PC, plus train handling. Phase 1 is peanuts compare to phase 2.
  15. What's up LIRR 154!? It's going well. Feels like an eternity of torture. I want to take the final exams now and get it over with. But with everything that's going on. I understand why.
  16. Out of the 1000. Only about 40 will be responsible in phase 2. That 40 is an entire section on its own. Too much to comprehend in phase 1. But yes. You will be responsible to know all of them. VERBATIM.
  17. the vocabulary part you can finish. But the other sections they don't give you enough time. Just try to get to as many as you can. Can't prepare for it.
  18. The "ENTIRE BOOK OF RULES" with the exception of Form L section until Phase 2. Also a few special instructions. Once in phase 2, it's PC, BoR, Air brakes, special Instructions, plus Train Handling. everything is game. Testing is the same. Written then verbal. I've been studying non stop. This is a program that if you don't keep studying, you fall behind. You don't wanna cram at the last minute. Also forget about asking for days off. Once in phase 2 it's no days off, no calling out sick, no vacation weeks, always be on time.
  19. The book of rules is the book of rules. To qualify as a conductor you start off as an assistant conductor and I think you have 2 years to study to qualify. Not sure if they have a verbal exam afterwards. But the questions should be similar I presume.
