  1. All right folks. Just an FYI. Made it into the August class for phase 1. Excited and anxious to start. Going for my medical and PAS on Wednesday. What does a PAS consist of? What should I expect? And do I wear comfortable clothing? Dress up? They said this is the only place I can dress with sneakers.

Congratulations, D! Well deserved! Can you stay in your current position or did you have to give notice? I'm still hoping they're not done hiring for now.

  2. Correct, 5 years till top pay.

No, it's top pay starting in the 4th year.

  3. I am sooooo glad to hear that. I've always known I wanted to be an engineer. I sent my first resume to the LIRR at 14 years old. Their first response to me was a typed letter telling me to reapply when I turned 18.

At 18, I reapplied and got a post card in the mail saying they received my resume. Never got an interview.

I continued to send my resume monthly. At one point in my 20's, I was so desperate for an interview that I tried buying lunch for the employment office. At the time, the office was in a building down the street from Jamaica station. There was little security and you could walk in the building easily. I had no idea how many people worked in the employment office,so I showed up at the office with five pizza pies and my resume attached to the top box. When I walked into the office, I was mortified. There were TWO people working in there! I was so embarrassed, I delivered the pies and resume and left without pitching myself.

    Never heard from them.

Another time I sent flowers to the office and had the florist attach my resume. No response.

Eventually, they moved to the current office and started using the DSC portal. I now send my resume regularly, whether they post the position or not.

Now in my 40's, I was starting to think I was getting too old to be accepted. At least I know now I still have some time left.

  4. Dude don't take nothing personal or for granted that it was your fault. Believe me when I say there is alot of politics in the RR especially when it comes to hiring. It may be you or it may not be you. I went for Engineer 3 years ago and I had the panel interview and to find out they told me I didn't pass it. Till this day I still don't know what happened and I was an internal applicant. Right now I'm going through alot of stress over this Yardmaster position that I was next in lined to be called when a spot opened. All I'm saying is don't beat yourself up , try for another position or another craft. Believe me Engineer isn't the best job on the property.

Did you apply for the LET position again after that or did you stop applying for it after you didn't pass the panel the first time?
