  1. Hey british...was there any particular reason why they sent you your letter in February and still haven't signed you up for a class? Did they just fill the previous classes before getting to your number or did they need you to bring in some sort of documentation. Did they even give you a hint as to why that happened?
  2. Finally back on certification as of today. Get ready for letters to roll in this month people. Good luck. For some reason they had taken us off cert last month. Hopefully within the next 2 to 3 weeks class starts.
  3. Train conductor class starts on the 28th and train operator is being processed for a class this month also I believe.
  4. Still no letters yet? Hope they get a class started soon. Been reading the other forums and people in other crafts are starting class this month. Don't know how that would affect the timetable for track class. I don't know how much space they have to train more than one craft at a time.
  5. Don't worry Dunnlick...they ARE hiring. Current trackworkers can testify to the ridiculous amount of overtime they are getting. That overtime is coming primarily because they are understaffed and desperately need more people. The current understaffed situation is mainly the result of the hiring freeze after the 2008 financial crisis. Since transit didn't really hire people for almost 7 years a lot of work that should have been done during that 7 year time period has been neglected . Now they are playing catch up and they won't catch up anytime soon so they will continue to hire more people. Add to this the fact that a lot of guys are finally retiring and I would say to you that anyone who tells you transit is not hiring trackworkers right now is a stone cold liar. As a matter of fact I saw a news report earlier today about how much work needs to be done to the subway system. They were saying something like " some of the E, F, and other subway stations will be closed for months for repairs" maybe someone could clarify because i was almost sleeping when it came on the TV. In addition to all of this we are coming up on the holiday season. It is going to get cold and it is going to snow. That means more overtime and more hiring to try to stop the bleeding and to get the work done. For people like you and me who are waiting it seems like it is taking forever, but trust me they are hiring and when we get in we will be getting overtime simply because we will be coming in just before the holiday season. We will be in very soon. Im sure these people in the office are tired of getting harassed. Telling anyone who calls that "we are not currently hiring for that position" is the best way to get you to stop calling. Good luck again. Trust me I feel the same way. I've decided to stop looking for that letter when I come home from work everyday and I have started a countdown to help me stay patient. This is week 1. That letter will come either the 1st or 2nd week of September so that we could be processed for the mid September class if there is one. I have 2 more weeks after this Friday left. That's not a long time to wait. If I look at it any other way I will be pulling my hair out in frustration. 2 more weeks after this Friday (and a lot of drinks in between then and now). Thats not a long time to wait.
  6. Not true. If you contact MTA HR or HQ at Livingston they will also tell you that the last person hired was 272. I had the MTA job hotline number but recently got a new phone after my old one broke. As soon as I can get the info off of my old phone I will post the phone number. 272 as the last hire to date is accurate but I will post the phone number so that anyone can confirm this information ASAP. MTA will give out this information very freely but is extremely tight lipped about when upcoming classes will be held. In addition to this I have been at Livingston plenty and have spoken to hiring agents as recently as today. They checked their computer records and confirmed as recently as today (8/17/2015) that the last hire is 272.
  7. I'll be checking for you in class. Hope that's soon. Good luck.
  8. Im hoping its a mistake dunnlick and i believe it is because the list number of the last person hired is still 272. That's what it was when the last class was filled. Had they filled the current class that list number would have been higher. So I hope to hear a change in the announcement soon or even better I hope to get a letter soon.
  9. Im officially off of certification list according to DCAS message. That means the next class was filled before my number was reached. Good luck if you got in. if you got in please give details on when class is scheduled to start.
  10. didn't get mine yet. I'm in the 340s. What about you. What range are you in. Hoping to get mine ASAP so I could leave my current dead end job for something worth my time. It will come soon. I know because I'm on the current certification list for the upcoming class. Didnt know if that will be mid august or mid september. But it will be mid september at the latest according to how they have been scheduling the classes. Hopefully they will stay on their current hiring pace. I really need this.
  11. Besides. Mr Moran lied to you. If they did not need track workers right now they would not have an outstanding certification. The current certification was initiated on July 17th. If you are on the certification list that means you are being considered for the next class. As for when that class will be? Certifications are initiated a month or two before the class starts. Mid august as well as September are possibilities for the next class. I repeat. When there is an outstanding cert. transit is gathering people for the next class. There would be no cert if they weren't getting ready to send out letters. Moran lied to you. I am on the current cert. that's how I know that a class is being assembled.
  12. The track workers at Livingston were not from our list. They were from an M list if that makes sense to anyone. I really dont think they will affect the next class in any meaningful way from what the receptions told me. And by affect I mean I don't think they will take any of our spots or push the next class back into November or later this year. As for how much time you have when you receive your letter...numerous people who have been through the process say that they received their letters maybe a week before class was supposed to start. So worst case scenario is you will have a few days to get back from California before class starts. I was under the impression that they gave you more time to get all required documentation but I guess it's a way to weed out people. Like I said before, I'm on a list for a particular police agency the documentation you need to fill out the police packet takes time to gather. If the transit packet is similar you can bet your ass that a lot of people won't even bother filling it out, some will give up mid way, and a bunch will not be able to gather all of the info before class starts. Add to that some people are failing the drug test and you have some very good reasons why it is taking over 100 letters to fill a 35 to 45 person class. Anyway British the point is you will not have a lot of time between receiving that letter and starting class. If you need to gather paperwork and you are in Cali that may not be a good thing considering the flight takes half a day or longer. Anytime spent at the airport or on your flight could cost you. If you really need the job it might be a good idea to sit that trip out.
  13. Hello British. The question is when did Mr Moran tell you this. All signs pointed to a mid September class after the May 18th class finished. But things could have changed. I was at Livingston this week and some track workers were being processed. If it is true that transit sends your letter about a week before the class starts that would mean that they have a class about next week. Those people would finish in 6 weeks which would be September 14th week. That would put the next class into November .
  14. Just spoke to my friend who has been in track for 15 years. Don't know why I didn't ask him my question but he told me that transit does everything at the last minute. You get your letter possibly days before the class starts. To anyone expecting to be in the current class ( u should expect to make it if you are in the 273-373 range based on past processing) get your affairs in order this week cause according to pilotboy91 there is a class in 2 weeks. If you have any outstanding traffic violations or tickets take care of them and have documentation showing that you did. Any court cases take care of them. Other than that you should be smooth sailing. Filling out your packet will take all day. I'm fortunate enough to be on a list for a police agency so I have all my documents ready. Don't know what transit needs but I have my selective service registration, passport, high school diploma, college transcript, high school transcript, 10 year job history ( with no gaps) if you were unemployed or can't remember exact dates I would fake it if I were you. For instance... Unemployed for a few months? Fill that gap by extending the dates you were at your job before being unemployed to getting your other job. Not telling you to break the law. Just telling you to do what you have to in order to get in. If you don't someone else will. Besides when it comes to job history dates get mixed up all the time and no one checks. In a previous post someone said that they didn't have all of their information and were told to call back for a date to come in. This person called for weeks and couldn't get in touch with anyone. He or she finally went in to the office and they told him or her that they didn't have to call they could have just came in at anytime. Needless to say this person possibly had to wait for the next class. Don't let this happen to you. If you are missing any info go home, get it, and come back the same day. That's what I would do.
  15. That would be great but I haven't received a letter. So I guess I'm not in that class. That is very bad for me. Time to get a second job. Thanks. Has anyone out there received a letter to come in for processing since the initiation of the current certification which started on July 17?
  16. Does anyone know what the timeline is between receiving your letter to being assigned to a class? And any word on when the next class will be? The current certification was initiated on July 17 but so far I haven't heard of anyone receiving a letter.
  17. Took the day off of work to go to Livingston. The office is packed and has been that way everyday that I've been there over the past 5 months so transit is hiring a ton of people. Some conductors were being processed and some trackworkers but not from our list. Apparently transit is hiring a bunch of trackworkers for a division that is seperate from where trackworkers on the 3600 list will serve if there is such a thing. I know for sure they weren't on our list and won't affect us being hired in any way. I went to the office because when I called DCAS to make sure I was still certified I got a message saying that DCAS had no record of me taking the test and I was not on the list. Considering the fact that these people have to send our names to transit for consideration for hiring I flipped out because I sure as he'll don't want to be skipped over. So I went to the office to make sure Livingston knew I should be on the list. They have me on there. But everyone should keep up with things like this because it IS possible for you to get skipped over
  18. Great news to all of us still waiting. The next class is currently being assembled. I do not have a specific date but as the last class was winding down I was taken off of the certification list according to DCAS which meant that transit had not requested my information from DCAS for a new class. I was on the certification list since the first class but I'm in the 340-350 range so they didn't get to my number but kept me on certification. I was pulled off certification recently so I was disappointed because this meant that transit was no longer looking to hire at the moment. At least not my number anyway. However, I called today and I am officially on the certification list. Which means there is another class in the works. I can only hope they keep the pattern of pulling 100+ people off of the list to fill a 45 person class. If they do I am in this class coming up and so are you if you are below 340 so get your paperwork ready. As a matter of fact if you are in the 370 to 380 range there is a decent chance you will be in the upcoming class. Good luck everyone.
  19. Was looking into the requirements for train operator based on the last exam here. http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/downloads/pdf/noes/200808098000.pdf Requirement #2 is "Five years of full-time, paid satisfactory work experience." but there is absolutely no mention of what constitutes "satisfactory" work experience. I doubt it's just any old job experience. Can anyone please clarify if they know what would be considered satisfactory work experience? Thanks.
  20. Any word on when the next class will be? Called the exam info hotline but they never want to give the info out and Mrs. Robinson never picks up. I'm sure she gets harassed enough. Someone had mentioned Sept. but I really need to know. September or earlier will allow me to help my mother avoid losing her house. Knowing for sure will allow me to make contingency plans in the event that it is not in September.
