  1. Ah, that makes sense...

Any chance the XN60's for the Bx6 SBS come with inward opening doors? The XD60s on the Q44 with outward opening doors are a wee bit clumsy for SBS imo,

It may be, but it actually kind of helps in passenger flow IMO. It hints to passengers getting off before others get on.

  2. But Phase 3 alone is a lot longer than the other phases, so I definitely don't think it'll happen.

That's mainly the issue. Kind of like the silver line on Washington metro. They did it right. Part of the line was built, but they ended phase one at a station that wouldn't of really made sense to end at. That was a move to make sure the full line would be completed, cuz it didn't make sense to not continue. But phase three, it is mostly complete, so phase 4 could get put on the back burner.

  3. Well, phase 3 already has a transfer to the (L) at 14 Street. In my opinion, phase 3 should have 4 tracks instead of 2, a station at St. Marks Place, Tail tracks north of 55 Street and possibly a new line from Queens. As for Phase 4, the local and Express tracks should merge and the Chrystie Street connection plan from the 1970s should take in effect. After passing Cantham Square, it should run down Park Row and replace the Nassau Street subway at Fulton Street, causing Chambers Street to be a terminal Station. The platforms at Fulton and Broad Streets should be b expanded. After that the Dekalb Avenue Junction should be rebuilt (though I'm not sure how that'll go). As for phase 2, just add a third non-revenue track and have it go to the Bronx replacing the Dyre Avenue line

Really? On the map mta provides for full buildout doesn't show transfers at 14th.

  4. I was advised to bring this conversation over here...

Phases three and four of SAS need a little work IMO. I know we probably won't even see phase two for another decade at least, but never too early to start prepping.

First, I feel like these phases should just be combined into one larger contract, or at least have funding for both at once. Progress is just too slow otherwise.

Second, I feel that stop placements are a little off, and so are connections. For example, East Village is basically skipped over, with two stops on the outskirts of the neighborhood. And, with having a stop on 14th street, why not connect to the L? It wouldn't be a bad thing to have riders from Brooklyn taking the second avenue line instead of further crowding Lexington first.

  5. What's the point of completing the Second Avenue Subway??? The only thing we need from this line is A third storage track at phase 2, express tracks at phase 3 and a better integration with the existing system. If the current SAS stays the way it is, it's going to be the most expensive mistake the city has ever made

Anyways, I think the R211 should only be assigned to the (A) and (R) trains, and maybe the (C)

Gotta disagree with that. The lower East side really needs another north south connection. Although, I don't understand some of the stop placements. East village is kind of skipped.

  6. I like that original look, but that wouldn't work on an LED display. It would have to be LCD.

LED wasn't really that expensive when the R160's were introduced either. We had already started used them on buses, and because of the size of the order they were fairly cheap.

Does that mean they'd be even more cheap than they would usually be now? It's still a very large order.

  7. They must've been certain that the routes eliminated in April won't be resurrected anytime soon. Now if only they can update the map instead of relying on the interactive one on their website.

Definitely. They only updated the signs in one direction tho, so still waiting. The interactive one on the website from my last check is missing the n20H, so that's great.

  8. That's the most likely scenario.

Sorry to bombard you with questions, but do all of the train sets have to be tested there? Or just the pilot cars.

  9. The ones built in Lincoln definitely. Not sure about the M8s built in Japan...

So the trains, after tested by the FRA, will probably be brought by a freight carrier?

  10. That is Pueblo, Colorado, where the FRA has its testing facilities. The schedule has been pushed back so nothing's in America as of yet. But when they do arrive, the FRA will test them in Puebla then the LIRR tests the at home.

Oh, completely forgot about the federal railway administration testing. Thanks. Is there a freight carrier that'll attach the cars to bring them over to long island, or by a different method?

  11. how long till arrival in America?

I had actually thought some already arrived, at least the pilot cars. Some official sheet said they would be tested in "Pueblo". I don't think they mean Colorado, or Kentucky for that matter. I have no idea what that meant. But at least according to the original schedule, the pilot cars are here. I really don't know, sorry.
