  1. Someone at the factory must've been colorblind or didn't look at the blueprint enough. Or the rendering was wrong.

or came before prince andrew made the mandate

Well I think this is a prototype car, and they can definitely change around the paint scheme. I don't mind the stripes on the side of the cars on the rendering. As long as the LIRR still has the yellow front.

  2. Any pictures of the new buses yet?

Not much that I'm aware of.

I know there is one on Instagram of #7015 at a gas station in NJ I believe. Also heard there were photos of #7023 and &027 on Facebook though I haven't been able to find them.

There is a few in a video someone too at SBC's Ronkonkoma Yard on Youtube.

There are a few videos up on youtube. I believe there is one with the bus in service already on the S33. I will not post the video here without the owners' permission, but just search "Suffolk County Transit XDE40"

  3. Summer 2017 interlining grid:

    Weekday

    Saturday

    Sunday

Blue = ARBOC, yellow = articulated.

On weekdays, they have four artics out at a given time under the new schedule, and they're only operating rush hour express service. No weekday midday or evening artic operations.

On Saturdays there are two out all day. Presumably the others will work the n88 as needed.

The n19, n78/n79, and n80 remain their own blocks, not interlined with anything else.

Route by route, from looking at the timetables (all are weekday, no weekend changes on these routes):

    • n22: No changes, timetable removes all mention of the n22A.
    • n24: 5:47p from Hicksville eliminated, 10:15p from Jamaica will terminate at RFM. Minor time changes.
    • n19: 2min added to AM running time and 2min removed from PM running time. Turn changes.
    • n23: 10:30a trip from Mineola eliminated.
    • n27: Added 7:36a trip from Hempstead, 10:45p trip from Hempstead eliminated (9:45p trip will run Willis Ave)
    • n33: 3min added running time eastbound.
    • n40/41: No changes.
    • n48/49: Added 7:10a n49 trip from Hempstead; PM eastbound minor time changes.
    • n54/55: Time changes all day. The westbound schedule contains typos in the PM (route numbers), early AM westbound short turns extended to originate from Unqua Rd and Sunrise Mall respectively
    • n58: Added 9:25p southbound trip from USMMA.
    • n72: 6:15a from Hempstead and 1:02p from Rt 110 eliminated. Time changes.
    • n70: 4:24p and 6:15p from SUNY Farmingdale converted to n72 trips. Time changes.
    • n80: Minor time changes.

The trip removals from the n24, n23, and n27 timetables don't appear to be new service cuts, rather, they look like trips that never run under the April schedule but were included by accident. They were not in the April not in the GTFS.

Thanks for posting. I have to say I am still really sour about the lack of warning NICE provided about the n22A cut. The only indication was the tiny black line on the pdf schedule, which is not looked at by many people.

  4. There's like approx. 4 sets of R62A's, I could count 3 on one day and 1 and a half set was sitting in the yard. I don't know what's going to happen to them. The rest are all R188/142's and I'm pretty sure most of them already have CBTC, what happened to those small orange strips under the car #'s? They still have them on the (L).

Wait the R62As aren't going to be CBTC equipped right?

  5. So I haven't been on the 7 train on a weekday in a looooooong time, for probably 4 years or so. Does anyone know if the R62As still run on the line at all or if they have been completely replaced by the R188s? I think CBTC work is almost done, and from what I heard a few sets of R142s are being equipped. Can someone break it down, please?

  6. Yes but the headways are so abysmal that even with the extension no one would bother. It needs to be extended AND see a bump in service to see any sort of potential ridership increases.

From my understanding, Saturday service (used to not be sunday) on the Q76 was eliminated from the 2010 budget crises, and then put back with sunday service around 2012. While it's true more frequent headways would be really nice, I'm not sure that it would be justified.

Sort of wanting to speak about this but I feel that the QM17 should at least have a few off-peak buses and Saturday service. There's been times that I've experienced too many times that the A Train becomes unreliable due to having track workers that causes it to run at very low speeds during the late morning/early afternoon hours and also the bridge opening that causes it to remain stuck for a good portion of time. I usually want to get to places where I need to get to on time, especially when I go see my therapist or my social group on Wednesdays and weekends and 80% of the time the A Train has failed me. A couple of weekends recently the A Train that leaves Far Rockaway terminate at Howard Beach and commuters have to take the shuttle bus to go to the stops where they usually go and sometimes on Saturdays I need to get to an event at Manhattan with my social group at a certain time and if the A Train becomes messed up, I'm screwed.

Recently I've been riding the QM17 from my home when I leave early in the morning and I got where I needed to go in little time and I feel that the QM17 is the only reliable way out of the Rockaways to the city in the morning if they're willing to pay the $6.50. There's been a couple of occurrences where the QM17 has nearly a full house and the bus I usually take is the final one of the day. And I'll never forget the first time I ever took the QM17 from Nintendo World at Rockefeller Centre to home and I got there in less than an hour. I just wish other people in the Rockaways just speak out to have off-peak Express service because suppose there's people who have reduced fare cards and are willing to pay the $3.25 to get from the Rockaways to Midtown quick, because I definitely can take advantage of that.

I don't have much to say about the QM16 because I never took it but I feel the people who live near the QM16 should get the same treatment.

While it's certainly interesting, I have to say I'm not sure that'll happen. I'm sure many have noticed that express bus routes are usually either in areas with no subway service or condos/apartments. The MTA might just shrug off that proposal saying there's already subway service, and adequate bus service to connect areas to the subway. The A train is not short of flaws, and the expanded hours may attract riders, but it all hinges on the MTA opening their eyes, which is a dangerous business.

  7. So I know I'm jumping the conversation a bit, but what annoys me about the Q76 is that its westbound terminus is at 131st street in college point, and doesn't go further in. I do understand that there are already three high frequency bus routes going into college point (Q20, Q25, Q65, 4 if you count the Q20A/B separately), but, especially on the weekends, I don't think having the Q76 follow the Q20A to its terminus would add too much congestion. Any thoughts?

  8. So, I don't think there's a more specific thread to put this in, but I have a pretty wacky idea:

The BQX streetcar has been proposed, but at this point, it's unclear if it will actually go through. However, the fact remains that more and more riders are going from outer boroughs to other boroughs. Right now, I'm thinking the main way people from southern Brooklyn is to take whatever they take to get to Atlantic Terminal, then from there, get to Astoria on the N via Manhattan. It seems like a good system, right? But there continues to be more riders in Manhattan as well as around, and routes going through Manhattan become increasingly busier. But wait! The G train doesn't go through Manhattan! That's true. What if you could get from Brooklyn to Astoria easily without going through Manhattan?

Maybe there's a way via the G train. As of right now, you could potentially transfer 4 or 5 times to avoid Manhattan. How do you fix this? Basically upgrade the entirety of the G train route. As you all probably know, Brooklyn around hoyt schermerhorn is a mess. It's very hard to get to the G from some other routes. So I don't really have a solution to that (yet). But, here's something interesting. Extend the G from court square up to Astoria. Utilize existing tracks on the IND Crosstown line to the IND Queens Boulevard Line, then stop at Queens Plaza. From there, I believe new infrastructure would be needed to have new tracks emerge from the ground, and connect to 39th avenue and travel the BMT Astoria Line the rest of the way.

This all seems ridiculous even to me. The cost may not justify what we're getting. What do all of you think? Is it better just to go through Manhattan? Is there even demand for something like this? Could there be a feasable rout path for this? Thanks.

  9. Shuttle buses are a must. The Q102 can't even handle 10% of the ridership, and the (MTA) can't in good conscience expect to have people wait 30 minutes for a Q102 or walk to the Q100 to the west or Q101 to the east.

I doubt they'll close all the El stations at the same time though.

at least they have 31st street for shuttle buses possibly, however the traffic is already high, and the supports for the subway makes things even more difficult.

I hope so, but the way they are handling BMT 4th Avenue is not promising...

It's a little but different on BMT 4th. the closures are more spaced out, and there are closer and more frequent buses than available for the package two closures.

  10. Do you think the MTA would do a type of BRT where the Buses get their own row in the middle of the road. But in order to save space, the buses drive on the left so they can share a median for the bus stops?

I did hear a strange proposal for woodhaven Blvd for buses to run in the median for SBS. Not sure if it's real or not, it was awhile back

  11. B35 Select Bus Service, Thoughts?

Definitely an interesting idea. A busy route connecting many lines. However, I see a few issues with it. The line currently uses 40 foot buses. looking at the route, I don't believe people would enjoy 60 foot buses on the comparatively tight roads. Kind of like what happened with the Q10 when they began running 60 foot buses. Of course, all of this could be avoided by using 40 foot buses like the B46 SBS. Another thing: When you get to the north flatbush area on the current route, the Limited Stops are very close together (I'm assuming you are saying the current limited stops would be kept). I'm pretty sure that wouldn't work too well that close, and there'd be quite an arguement over where to keep the stops. Also, the SBS routes tend to have a main place or attraction at one end or a long the route, or travel through pretty dense areas. While important, I'm not sure the B35 really fits that. Of course, all of these are minor things, and this could possibly work.

I have a question: Why is the Q10 so busy? They added 60 foot buses just to keep up with overcrowding. But looking at the route and where it goes, I don't understand why it is this way. Can anyone explain? Thanks.

  12. My guess would be that at the time it was made (My guess before it was announced the other routes would be cut), the n19 didn't cross into Suffolk so they decided not to included. Either that or since it was cut from going to Babylon and Suffolk picked up the Babyon to Sunrise Mall portion of the n19, whoever created the bus map assumed that the n19 had been completely cut. Again though that's just my guess.

That is true. I realized that they actually still have the n72 going to Babylon as well. But that was in the original announcement I believe.

  13. The schedule is not always followed, so nothing is a guarantee. Five minutes is way too tight IMO to be making a connection of that sort. I once waited for the S92 in Hampton Bays in order to get to Riverhead and have 10 minutes to connect to an S62 (going back towards NYC). Needless to say, the bus came 15 minutes late, and although it was catching up to schedule, by the time it arrive at the County Offices, the S62 just left. The bus the follow hour was a no show either (so I said f**k it, and took an S66 to Patchogue, and took the LIRR to Amityville).

The problem is that there's only a couple of trains that run out to Greenport, so he either has to catch that train that gets him to Greenport around noon, and then make the super-tight connection on the S92, or leave significantly earlier, and take the Port Jefferson Branch to either Smithtown or Port Jefferson for the S58/62 (for the S92), and hope he doesn't get screwed on the connections there.

But yeah, if time isn't too much of an issue, I would just buy a ticket for the 2PM boat instead of the 1PM boat and call it a day (or maybe get one of those higher priced tickets that allows last-minute changes, so you can take the 1PM boat if it looks like you'll make it)

From what I can tell, I think I would definitely be fine with the train getting there around 12 PM, and the bus picking me up at around 12:40 PM. Considering that the bus is supposed to get to orient point just before the ferry leaves, I thought maybe they'd have a deal with transferring to it. Could the ferry wait? Maybe I'd actually consider calling SCT up about it. For a minute I was considering going to Port Jeff for that bus, but the people I might be doing this with can barely stand one bus, let alone transferring! Thanks again.

  14. This is more of a question. I am looking to take the ferry from Orient Point to New London in about a month or so. I would rather not drive and take my car. So, I thought, why not take the LIRR to Greenport and the S92 to Orient point. A few things. The schedule says I have about a 40 minute wait from the train to when the bus gets there. I feel like I should wait by the bus stop, cuz I'm scared without live tracking. Also, is the bus timed so that you can get to the ferry at 12:55 and still get on the ferry for 1:00? Has anyone done this before? Thanks.

  15. The n22A elimination wasn't advertised anywhere. I wouldn't be surprised if everyone didn't know and end up waiting for their normal bus tomorrow morning.

I know! That bus runs right next to my house. Or I guess, did run next to my house. The only reason I knew about the changes was a thin black line through the n22A in the PDF schedule online. Rediculous. And NICE has yet to change the signs. I decided to help out a guy waiting for an n27 on Sunday, which wasn't going to come because there is no more weekend service. Dropped him off by the n24. He had no idea. NICE needs to fix this.

I saw Mercy Medical Center Shuttle while waiting for n6X Jamaica at 3:01pm. Usual dispatchers and all securities at HTC let me take picture because I'm with you-know-what. 11:30am n6X Hempstead driver from Jamaica was very nice. Last night at Roosevelt Field Mall, one of dispatcher told me to take picture of new bus and properly new dispatcher at HTC told me I was trouble for taking picture of new bus.

In Sun Afternoon, I walk entire n27 route from Sea Cliff to Glen Cove to check to see anyone was waiting, and went back same way at Glen St to find out 4 beauituful sexy ladies were waiting n27 bus that never comes on weekend for 90 minutes because they weren't aware of changes including no Sunday service on n21 Bus. They were devastated.

In Evening, when I stop by at Hicksville on Sun, lots of people were not aware n79 bus was rush hour only.

    Yup. I helped out a guy waiting for a non-existant n27.

  16. The paint scheme for the Novas hasn't been finalized yet.

I feel like that's kind of strange considering the new flyers started that scheme what, like a year ago? Plus, MTA missed a golden opportunity to paint the 60 foot LFSs a new scheme, if that will be there brand.

if he is talking about the LFS and the lfsa i think they were ordered before prince Andrew's mandate of blue and gold

I'm talking about the new 60 foot LFSs for 2017. From what I can tell they are in the former livery.
