  1. So I don't know if anyone saw yet, but NICE did scale back the service cuts slightly. The n19, n57, and n78/n79 are not being discontinued, but service is being greatly reduced. Just look at the differences between the current schedule and the one effecting April 9. It's crazy. But this comes at a cost. A bunch of routes are losing weekend service. Personally, I think the n27 is the biggest loss for the reductions. And while not officially stated on the website, the schedule says the n22a is being eliminated.

  2. I just saw a sign for the artics at Hempstead Transit Center. They will be departing at Jackson starting at 4:15am to 7:30pm. Some runs will be express.

do you have a picture of the sign?

well the last day of service for the routes cut is then, so it makes sense to start service when the new schedules and routes take effect.

  3. To get the 75' cars off those lines ASAP...

They would particularly help with the (G) because the 1st and 4th cars are usually the most crowded (due to the positioning of the exits along the (G) and the train's short length) and open gangways would allow passengers to spread out.

The (B) would be okay with R160's but I do think crowding on the (D) has reached the point where open gangway cars are necessary.

The (E) and (F) could use some open gangway trains, but I would just spread the love a bit...

The G might actually work. Especially if the MTA wants to test these trains, it's a good line to do it on. However, the overcrowding on some cars could be fixed more simply with better signage to stand in the middle of the platform.

  4. I know this is such I tiny possibly silver lining, but maybe NICE will actually finally release a new system map? They still use the one from 2012 which is just so wrong. On a different note, these cuts are devastating. A person that cleans my house once a week sometimes takes the n27 to my house if we can't give her a lift. That service is being reduced. She also works for two people along the n79 route that now she can't get to either. It's rough.

  5. Iam gonna have to agree with u on that.I doubt this will happen but what about a nice/sct merger.

In my opinion that would be amazing, but logistically would be a nightmare. Here are a few of many:

    - NICE uses MetroCard and SCT doesn't

    - both have different fares

    - nice has GPS and live tracking, I don't even think SCT releases public GTFS data

    - completely different operators

It's a "nice" idea but I don't think it would ever happen

  6. I would assume most R160's would either stay at Jamaica for service on the  (E)  (F)  (R) or get transferred to Coney Island for service on the  (N)  (Q)  (W) (which are expected to require additional trains due to increasing ridership)

I don't see any sort of conversion to ten cars for the  (C). What I could see happen, is the R143s all move to 207, with all R160s and R179s receiving CBTC and operating as one big pool of cars for the  (J)  (L)  (M) and  (Z).

I don't really know if the mta will opt for CBTC conversion for the R160s. Unless they have already, I'm a little behind.

  7. Very strange. This is on the official MTA website about service changes for the holidays

    http://web.mta.info/mnr/html/christmas.htm

    One section reads:

"And as an added bonus, this year New Year's Day is observed on Monday, January 2. Since businesses and government offices are closed we will operate a Saturday schedule without the Shoppers Specials. (Because if you haven’t purchased that holiday gift for that special someone by then, you will never need to again.)"

I just think that is so hilarious. Keep it up mta.

  8. Hi everyone, I know I'm kind of posting this in the middle of a conversation, but I've been so confused about this. What is everyone's favorite transit app to use? Personally, I like Transit (The "app" part of "transit app" was removed awhile ago). but what about citymapper, moovit, any other local apps, or even google or apple maps? Please share your opinions.
