  1. Hey, can someone shed light on the indication for restricting, Amtrack and LIRRs is different. On the test, will they label which is for zone A or C?
  2. They will be giving a vocabulary and cognitive tests. No way to prepare for it. If you pass they will keep you for an interview.
  3. How did it go? From what I understood at overview, they grade the tests and then it goes to an HR office in the city. Out of those that passed HR makes the final call on when anyone gets called. LIRR has no say on when and who gets called.
  4. At the S&D overview it was said the next one is to begin mid June (not sure of the date). They conduct them every 13 weeks.
  5. I would say that these opportunities are few and far in between. Instructor at my overview said that there is a need for new engineers in LIRR. DRENYCE311 has been most helpful and insightful on many things. I would trust his information esp since he is guiding us from within and experience. Good luck with Metro North but they seem to require a lot more in terms of experience for their locomotive engineers candidates.
  6. Had the S&D overview yesterday and no one is exaggerating when they say it’s a lot. And it can seem overwhelming but they also say it can be done by anybody. Just need dedication and determination. I began setting up my flash cards last night (unfortunately I had work also yesterday). I can say from writing just the names the terms become a little more familiar. Some signals are just self explanatory. Good luck to all that were there. There was a good sized group of about 55.
  7. Exactly what drenyce311. They test your vocabulary and cognitive skills. Take your time and make sure to follow instructions.
  8. Wow, interesting. But why have another open house if there are anticipated budget cuts? I understand you mentioned it doesn’t apply to engineers but just wondering.
  9. We actually were invited for the S&D overview. Phase 1 will be for those that past the S&D test after 5 weeks of studying following the overview. Did you not get an invite to the S&D?
  10. What would be appropriate attire for the S&D overview? I know sneakers are a no-no.
  11. Yes, I received my invite to the S&D also. Very excited! Getting myself mentally prepared to buckle down and study. My fiancée is going to have to adjust. We were supposed to get married next year. Should I continue with that planning?
  12. Absolutely, hopefully we aren’t waiting too long. As for the background check, I believe it is done right before beginning Phase 2 when you actually become a railroad employee.
  13. Just got home from Open House today. There was over 100 people there and roughly 20 failed the tests. Had my interview which was pretty direct, Hope I said the right things. Now the waiting game begins.
  14. Good morning! This thread has been very insightful and intriguing. I read through it in about 2 days. I applied this past November and was invited to the April 9th open house in Babylon. I’m considering of going as I don’t have anything to lose by not trying. My main concern is I have a moving violation from 2014, a DWI to be specific. It has been 4yrs 5mo to the date. Will this automatically disqualify me or do I have a chance since it’s been some time already? I’ve completed everything that has to do with that violation and have my drivers license for over a year now. I have absolutely no other incidents on my record.
  15. Evening, So finally the next T/O exam applciation period will begin. How long is the wait for the actual exam after applying?
  16. Thanks for the heads up Brakeman. So there is no prep guide for this test? Is it just basic knowledge and common sense?
  17. Evening all, Love the thread as it has been most insightful and informative. I have been considering applying for the upcoming T/O open competitive exam and was wondering which study guide I can purchase to prepare. I have tried to look for a thread relating to this exam unsuccessfully. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
