Lol. Thats what I’m leaning more towards to. Only thing is that I will have to do the TO training for about a month & then have to resign for the Sanitation August class.

Don't start the T/O training. Call them and say you want to defer for the future. Reinstate your name if you don't like sanitation. It isn't worth it to turn down the sanitation job for a provisional position. Especially when you could always reinstate your name back within the 4 years. Plus the list hasn't even been established for T/O, so the 4 year clock wont even begin yet.

Hey guys, been following this thread for a while. So I have a decision to make. Got hired for the July 9 class for TO a few weeks ago & looks like I’m being considered for the August class for Sanitation. Which job is better? Sanitation or MTA Train Operator? What are the Pros & Cons for each? Who has better pay, benefits & pension?

This is one of the biggest decisions I have to make in my life & any opinions is greatly appreciated.. Thanks

Take the sanitation and run. Hands down.

July class starts in two weeks. The 9th, I wanna know what list number they are up too but haven’t heard from anyone give a update on that.

When I asked the manager about 2 weeks ago, she told me they were most likely not going to get passed the current number: she said around 53x. She said very unlikely they pass that number for July class (I'm assuming because of all of the deferments from April and June). She also said she won't know until about a week or two after the July class begins whether or not there will be an August class, and that I should call again to find out. Lets cross our fingers and hope there is.

Side note: according to City-Data certification, as of 3/22/18 there were 200 vacancies, but as of 5/23/18 there were 500 vacancies.

What is it for drug test? If it’s for the drug test. I got there early was one of the first 4. you gotta fill out paper work and make sure you got your things u need in order. Quicker you do that the quicker you take drug test. it’s not the OPA, just the pre employment process. expect to be there for about a good 3-4 hours if you are on time. You might have to do the same thing again as the drug test is only good for 90 days. based on what I’m reading most likely cause mines is up in August and they are no where near my list number yet for the medical 🤦🏾‍♂️

Don't they just do another drug test at medical? So annoying to have to continue to miss a day off of work every 90 days to go take a drug test IF it's true they aren't planning on hiring anymore until next year.

The waiting list for the previous exam #8094 given in 2008 expired this past February.  I’m fully aware of the wait, not sure what you’re trying to imply here.

He was saying that almost everyone, if not everyone, should pass schoolcar for C/R.

Just a quick update: called the employment center to ask if it was true about the freeze after July, they said that is not true, but that no classes are "officially" scheduled yet. Classes are scheduled as needed regularly. Meaning a class could randomly open up August or September, etc. It's not as if they have a calendar with a fixed schedule with classes set. Take it with a grain of salt though, you could call transit 10 times, speak with 10 different people, and get 10 different responses.

Just to clarify, this DOES NOT MEAN July is not the last class. It is possible it is, possible it isn't. Again, just nothing is officially set in stone.

Anyone in the 1300’s get called for PE yet? Please note, I took the OPA back in April. Appears that numbers are all over the place.

Yes PE seems to have gotten into the 1500's, but it wont matter so don't get your hopes up. It seems that the last class for the year is July (as per another poster). Hopefully they'll open up at least 1 or 2 more classes later in the year that aren't scheduled as of now.

Does anyone have the phone number to the testing office? I want to call to make sure they have my correct email.  I’m list 1239 and haven’t received a medical email even though at PE they said we were being considered for June or July class.

Call employment center at 347-643-8229, they are the ones that will contact you. But I doubt it's your turn for medical since people from 5xx-6xx are still waiting for medicals. As someone already mentioned, they need to handle people who deferred first.

I on med hold right now, I will get a letter on Next week saying that I am ok to continue.

Don't know if I will be in by  that time.

I'm pretty sure that appointing of classes is by list number, so you should definitely be in the July class with your list number.

I probably have to take the exam again since my list number is 27,408

This is true my dude, but don't limit yourself to just conductor. If you want to work for the city/MTA, take every exam possible. This month DCAS has police officer, environmental police officer, and correctional officer. All 3 are great positions. It'll be some time before MTA puts out the next conductor exam, since this list was only established 4 months ago.

Damn, but then what was the point of calling so many people for pre employment?

I agree with this. I doubt there will only be 1 more class for the year. Could be true, but I doubt it. I mean, they called over 1,000 people for preemployment and drug test.

Hey everyone, so ive been following this forum for quite some time, but im still so confused and anxious when it comes to this waiting game. My list number is between 810-820 & i took the opa in october/November & i also did the drug test on april 10th & havent heard anything. They said 3-90 days but the 90 days are fastly approaching. Has anyone in my list range heard anything ? Im hoping for a call back in september but with the MTA anything goes .

Just to give you some perspective on where they are at, I am 71x and still waiting for medical as well. I have a good feeling you should definitely be in for August or September (assuming they have classes those 2 months), if not July.

Does anyone know what number they’re  up to for pre-employment?

I don't think there's anyway to find that out. You can look on this forum thread to get an idea, but not everyone is on this forum so we don't have an actual number to give you.

You will get 1 vacation day for each month of work you complete, that will be usable in January. If you have 5 or more days, you should be able to pick a week vacation. Whether or not you'll be able to get that particular week boils down to seniority and available slots for that week.

If you can't get the week (or you have less than 5 vacation days), then you will have to request the days off in the automated system. You will learn about the IVR. 20 days from the date that you want to take off, you call in and request the date and type of day you want to use. (Because by then, you will be able to save holidays (AVAs) to use as a type of day off)

Also talk to your union reps about needing this time off. They may be able to help you moreso, if you already have tickets purchased, etc.

    REQUESTING A DAY OFF

Now that you know how to save time off, here's how to take time off.

-Call the IVR system no earlier than 20 days in advance of the day you want to request off. Enter your pass and PIN (PIN is last 4 of your social if you've never called the IVR before).

    -Press 1 for Crew Assignments

-Press 3 for "Request a Day Off"

-Your leave balances will play. In order to request a day off, you will need a full day in either your AVA, PLD, Vacation Day balance, or 8 hours of OTO (unless you are requesting your birthday as "birthday" which doesn't require you to have any balances). Enter the date you want off in MM/DD/YY format. You cannot request days off more than 20 days in advance. If you try, the system will deny you. Follow the prompts. You will receive a confirmation number. Write it down.

-DO NOT HANG UP YET. You will be asked "if you'd like to hear your confirmation number again, press 1. If not, press 2." PRESS 2!!! If you hang up the phone without pressing 2, your request will not go in.

-You will hear "Your Request has been submitted". Make sure you hear this. If you don't, start over and do the whole thing again. Once you hear "Your Request has been submitted" and the main menu starts to play, it is safe to hang up the phone.

-Within a few days, check the crew assignment sheets. At the front section is a list of "employee day off requests". If you see your name next to the date you've requested, you got the day off in advance. Take a picture of the sheets, and enjoy your day off when it comes in a few weeks. If you don't see your name, your request is PENDING. Wait until the crew assignment sheets come out with the jobs for the date you requested. If your job is covered, you got the day off. If you're extra, and don't see your name, call the crew office to make sure you got the day, since you won't see anything in the sheets to tell you you're off. Taking this added step will avoid you being AWOL if the crew office simply forgot to assign you a job.

Thank you so much. You are very helpful.
