No chance that we're going back to those days. Too many eyes on everyone now... And cell phone cameras...

Cops nationwide keep resisting. And videos didn’t stop that one guy by Barclays knocking that woman onto the curb, nor those Manhattan units from kettling protesters and hitting them when they tried going over the bridges to comply with DeBlasio’s curfew.

Thats why I’m not a fan of Mayor McCheese’s using cops to expel hobos from the subway when there’s a whole Homeless Department AND Housing police units with Social Workers that should be down there sorting all this out (since all but a few would be eligible for Medicaid and housing vouchers) versus general police who are trained to take control of a situation by any means necessary except negotiating (unless you’re in a certain demographic).

For what it's worth, I've seen more NYPD cops patrolling since Adams came into office than I did during the de Blasio period. There are just so many weirdos riding. Last week, this guy was at Times Square just pacing back and forth and he clearly looked mentally unstable. I called myself getting away from him, only to have him run into my car just as the doors were closing. He got off at 110th St on the (1), but behaved in such a weird way that everyone was looking at him like what is this guy on? It's bad enough now that I think I will be avoiding the subway when it gets warm for sure, especially since we are only now going to a hybrid schedule this week, but it'll still be only a few times a week, just I have been going in. Gonna take time to get the situation under control down there.  I know quite a few people that have basically stopped using public transit and they go into Manhattan by car or via Uber.

Beyond the anti-terrorism unit that meets at Bowling Green in the AM, or the platoon that blocks the stairs at Grand Central, I see more NYPD on the SI Ferry than I do the (R) or (1).

Still haven’t seen any of those 500 (MTA) PD  Cuomo ordered - unless they’re the State Troopers that hang out at St George Ferry or in front of the 120th Precinct across the street. And don’t get me started about how panhandling is illegal inside  St George Ferry but that entire NYPD Ferry Patrol doesn’t enforce it despite having a whole station inside.

Best way to change the narrative from the ACAB Progressives’ line and get trust from us demos that are always on the negative end of police excess - since we actually want effective and respectful policing is to police sans the “YOU WILL GET BEATEN UNTIL YOU RESPECT US” mindset.

That’s not what Pat Lynch & Co want though, but lemme stop with the sociopoliticals.

Cops aren't putting themselves on the line when everything they do is being scrutinized.

So indicative of the problem with policing today - if cops won’t do their jobs for fear of being filmed and scrutinized (laughable since few actually get disciplined or terminated), then it holds that the complaints about policing are salient.

Easy problem to solve, but as Churchill said, “America will do the right thing after it tried everything else” - or something similar.

If not, Adams will be a one-term mayor for sure.

I’d rather this be a certainty than a possibility.

All said, I don’t feel unsafe on the subway, but I do feel annoyed. Was at Penn on the (1) yesterday and saw a hobo harassing a skater to the point he’s on one of the help phones calling for help while there’s 4 Blue Bloods I passed above ground at 34th/7th watching pedestrian traffic vs being in the station (which already has/had too much vice going on).

We need a separate transit police back - was a dumb decision by Giuliani to merge NYCTA Police with NYPD.

Also, where are those 500 (MTA) police Cuomo imposed?

And since when is it illegal to cross between cars?

    Wasn’t it always?

If that was the case they should start locking the end doors that can only be unlocked from the conductors cab.

They do that on R46 and R68 trains. Stops changing cars, but like that one time I was stuck on the (A) at 207th during a track fire, or those folks on that R46 (F) when it lost power, what do you do when the crew’s button releasing the locks don’t work and folks need air or to escape?

And then where does the slippery slope lead? Do we put up barricades on every curbside?

Vegas did that at a few intersections on the Strip and built bridges to reduce car vs people collisions.

Transit systems around the world put up PSDs to reduce passenger track incursions. Dunno why anyone would be against anything that would reduce delays from someone getting hit by a train, but you do you.

I have to slap myself in the face LOL because what I said I will not use the OMNY (pilot phase) until when the make it like the 7 days unlimited card that you can use it "any time" instead of restricted like now only Mon- Sun because I just found out next week I have to go back into the office and I will have 1 or 2 days remote only and in that case I have to use the 7 day unlimited now instead of the 30 days.  Well now I will use it during the pilot.  I will have to buy a OMNY card though instead of using my credit card.  Does anyone know if i can pay it with my credit card when I buy like from Walgreens or 7 Eleven?  Also when adding the payment when purchasing the card and I know it is $5 and if I add let's say $11 will it become $16? and also does it have the "bonus" or not?  I want to make so I have no balance left.

Why don’t you just use your phone/smart watch?

You can literally just stay on the (D) until 161 St and transfer over to the (4) or even better, the (6) two stops up from Bleeker St to Union Square and also transfer to the (4)

It’s the most absurd subway-based game ever.

After my 3rd time doing it, I was confident it was some bored programmer and not @Wallyhorse who made it.

    Hell just look at this:

Bruh. I did that one and almost threw my phone.

If it were about finding the most absurd way to get somewhere, I’d “overstand”, but even with how redundant the subway is, no one’s ever a) gonna do it if they’re not fanning, and b) there’s too many ways to do it.

Someone just looked at the map and said “okay”. At least the ones using (SIR) made some sense.

    I just tried it.

Who the hell would use the (L) to dive between the (J) and (R) while heading from 111th Street (ambiguity means that the (A) could easily fit here) to Northern Boulevard?

All that like folks wouldn’t take buses, or ride to Jamaica and switch to (E) to (R) or (M) and enjoy the time savings.

OK I got the math part. Yes the $33 is a week and you will not pay more that part I got.  What I am saying for example you say if I had to travel Saturday it will be free and Sunday OK I got it.  Once it goes into Monday it should be Free too and it should not start over again to use up to $33.  So let's say Saturday it starts $33 and with the following Friday coming my unlimited OMNY card would ending.  That would be 7 days unlimited.

The MTA rep I spoke too says "it doesn't work that way". She said if let's say you got up to $33 on Wednesday 3-16-22 and it will be free unlimited rides till SUNDAY 3-20-22.  I asked her shouldn't it be until 3-22-22 and she said "NO" it doesn't work that way. So that is my complaint here why are we capping for $33 equivalent to a 7 day unlimited but it is not fully 7 days of use and it is for 4 days of use?  That is why I said that is a rip off if you know what I mean.  We are not getting the full usage of the $33 OMNY pilot unlimited.  I hope my explanation is understood.  I don't want to start a rant and in the forums I am trying to follow the rules.  I want to be diplomatic.

If they did that while on a Sun-Sat capping schedule, they’d be giving away free rides.

    Thats a marketing promotion.

Once they see it works - operationally and financially, maybe the 7-day period goes Mon-Sun, or is based on the first swipe after “x” days of no swipes, or maybe you’ll go on OMNY’s site/app and pick a day.

Or maybe they’ll count fares up to a 30-day unlimited equivalent and then give you the rest of the month.

It’s a test now - let them get the answers right so we can have nice(r) things.

  11. 1 hour ago, mikecintel said:

But what I am saying is if it is comparable to a $33 Unlimited Metro Card should you get the same as the 7 day Metro Card unlimited too and not limit the OMNY for the same week.

    Maths:

Fare is $2.75 for a ride and transfer. Round trip is $5.50.

    $5.50 x 6 days = $33

    Unlimited card is $33/week.

So if you needed to travel Saturday, with fare capping it’s free rides; without it it’s another $5.50.

    What’s the problem now?

  12. 1 hour ago, mikecintel said:

I just called the MTA to make a clarification about the fare capping they tell my that for example if I use from Monday to Wednesday up to $33 then it would be unlimited and it ends Sundays.  The following Monday I will have start over again to add up to $33.  Isn't the purpose of fare capping to have an equivalent of $33 to a 7 day Metro Card? So another words the unlimited for an example that I use Mon-Wed and kicks in Wednesday it would start the unlimited and it should end the following Tuesday.  They rep said no if you used up to $33 till Wednesday it kicks in and you have until Sunday to for the unlimited so that means it is not a 7 day unlimited card. To me it is rip off because $33 is for 7 days and this fare capping you don't even get 7 days of use it's only for that week.  I UNDERSTAND that this is a pilot and it can change after when the pilot is over but as for pilot it's a rip off.  Maybe some of you disagree with me but I am shocked at what the MTA is doing.  They should make it 7 days fare capping like after the $33 you gets 7 days of use not for the week and that is it.

Fare capping is saying “you spent this much, so we’re automatically upgrading you to this unlimited so you don’t spend more money for ‘X’ timeframe”.

Its never been “spend this much and get a free bus pass” - that’s a marketing promotion.

That's nice, but again, none of this changes the fact that you're still a transplant, Mr. assimilated New Yorker... That was the reason you even tried to nullify my "piss-poor" analogy in the first place... You just didn't like the argument that was being made in that post, separate from the analogy, because it struck a nerve.... Nobody else would've cared, otherwise... It wasn't wholly about the merit of the analogy & you know it...

Deliberate misreading & misinterpretation of a post... More like a convenient deflection on your part to not have other readers on here realize that was yet another one of your slick little comments about native New Yorkers.... Latest attempt to prove myself superior over others on transit stuff? I'm not in any of this to be superior over anybody & you can spare me your projected inferiority complex with that.... I mean, coming from a Californian on a NYC based message board that habitually makes commentary & inquiries as to why things are done the way they are in this state, instead of how they're done in California, that means much of nothing anyway.... You barely engage in any real in-depth NYC based transit conversations on here anyway... But let there be something related to politics, oh, your fervor is on quite the display on that.....

Your yawns, your muttley laughs, your aight then's, your weak insults about my parents being proud, your feigned conveyed boredoms, this that & the third... All of that is nothing more than dismissive tactics posed as a cloak to how bothered you really are about the transplant bit.... So bored, that you decided to disrupt a good flowing transit conversation almost 30 posts deep after your penultimate post in here with this underwhelming attempt at a get-back....

    What's really good with you....

    Now an essay.

Since your ego’s invested in this, go ahead with the last word. I won’t read it - like I haven’t with anything else you’ve written since Saturday (because 1) it’s all from a flawed premise - that piss-poor analogy, and 2) I’ve watched you for years throw fits whenever you’ve “decided” to come for someone that had nerve to disagree with you OR agree with you but not enough), but I’m sure you’ll feel better.

I’ll even do you the solid of not even replying to your future comments unless I have to moderate something in them.

    Floor’s yours.

Not at all..... Your failure to nullify the analogy doesn't mean my whole argument was based on the analogy.... I could've made the argument without it....

You can commence doing Muttley laughs or whatever, but when it's all said & done, you're a transplant that's made more than his fair share of California references as it relates to how NY should do things... The fact that you tried to separate yourself from transplants with that assimilated NY-er bit was slick, but it wasn't that slick....

First you tried to shit on natives in that first reply of this side discussion to @R10 2952, then it became oh, let's form voltron with us same B&M-ing natives to make transplants & hipsters get in line (or send them back running to wherever they came from).... That's that snake in the grass shit; the only people really that should be on that type of energy when it comes to getting transplants & hipsters in line, are the natives...

    Yawn.

I mean, props to you for trying to find a way to win an argument you started with a piss-poor analogy and deliberate misreading and misinterpretation of a post, but yawn at the latest attempt to prove yourself superior over others on transit stuff.

I’m sure your parents might be proud, but I’m bored.

    Aight then.

Let you know what I find out? It's more like, where have you been.... Quote-unquote Madden Kings exist & side chicks (as well as main chicks) stay putting those losers on pedestals... It's not remotely some rare ass phenomenon... For starters, that's practically all those black manosphere losers on youtube b**** about & they've been doing so for years on end... On some, oh, I have a college degree & I earn 6 figures, why does she choose that no good, broke ass bum over me..... Classic "game" vs. "lame" debates that sector of youtube engage in & they're not pulling that shit out of their asses.... If you think side chicks are messing around with nothing but quality dudes, you are sorely mistaken.... Flat out.

So your whole argument is based on a bunch of broke ass hoteps and misogynists whinging on YouTube and Clubhouse to get likes and paid as creators.

    <Insert Muttley Laughing gif>

    Aight then.
