I wanted to write the first day i got my letter when i saw everyone posting, got it the first day like everyone else. Scheduled for the 18th. I'm assuming i got 3 wrong . Since my day is later than others idk.

Anyway my dilemma is i make $25 per hour now at a hotel and next july i will make $30.25 and by july 2020 if im still there my max will be $37.40 minimum . We get overtime after 35 hours and i always get overtime. Projected to pull in $73k this year. Next year same hours it would easily be $83k. I got a colleague he gets $34.30 now and $1.37 after 8pm extra.

My uncle says im crazy if i don't get with NyC transit. My reason to join would be pension. Pension in union hotels is $1,100 per month after 20yrs right now. Thats crazy low.

Ima take this opa test. Luckily im off that day. I get 8 sick days. 3 personal days and 6 vacation days and goes to 10 2nd year.

What would you all do? Also good luck. Nice to see a lot of good people on here supporting each other.

That is a rough choice to make. Something you have to discuss with your family. You can also ask yourself . Is that job you are in going to be around in 20 yrs. Any oldtimers in you current job title? Civil service union are a lock as long as you dont mess up to badly.

HEY folks. I took the OPA on Tuesday oct 3rd. I thought it was pretty simple and straight forward and I think I definitely passed. I scored a 97.5% (2 wrong) on the written test.

Does anybody know the process after the OPA and how long it will take? Thank you.

From what i have been told from a guy who just was hired in apr or may. You will get a letter telling you to come back to see doctor. You will get a huge booklet to fill out. Then an appointment to bring paperwork and speak to union people. Then you would get a start date.

Took my OPA this morning. Like previously stated there's two parts. Don't want to get accused of cheating so I'm not going into specific detail. Sorry.

Overall I felt like I did good. A little nervous about what they're grading us on for the 2nd part, but Jake gave me some clarity. The monitor did say that our results will be mailed to us, but she didn't say when. Hopefully we get it next month.

Tip: When you get off the elevator on the 4th floor make sure you're one of the first people on the line when they tell you to line up and show your money order. If not have fun waiting for everyone else to finish their oral exam while you wait bored to death lol.

That is good. I read that they dismissed a whole conductor class because MTA found out 1 person got the saftey test answers and shared it. So they got rid of the whole class.

That's the thing,we only took the test last year, MTA makes people wait minimum 3 years to actually hire, from what I have seen. Its incredible if we would be starting the process right now.

Hey you never know. Maybe it could be that they have exhausted the first test. Also alot of people could have taken the test on 15 like us. They could have moved and not updated info. But i can tell you that are hiring like crazy. I have a friend that took track worker. They told him they need to hire 600 in a hurry. They even pulled him out of training early. Got shifts already. He did 15 hrs ot first week. With a big focus on mta and money coming in from city and State.  They want to show they are doing something about it. Still good to get a letter after almost 3 yrs. One step closer.

  5. I know that they want to hire atleast 600 people for track worker. I know someone that went from school safety to track worker. He said they are eager to hire fast. They didn't even let him finish training berfore they pulled him out. He is already on the job and had 15hrs overtime first week.
