So today was day 7. I failed. Onto day 9 I go.  My initial instructor he was really good. Threw us in the Lion's Den real quick. He is knowledgeable. I enjoyed his teachings. I got an experience. Cant say I never drove a bus.  So Monday came and we had to get a new trainer. We started off very late. Threw my day and really threw the week off. He was cool he knows more than me. I am a little perplexed as to what are the criteria in passing with the MTA road test. The second instructor I had said i made great improvements for the couple days i have been with him.

Anyways my faults. Not slowing down when pedestrians are crossing, forward planning and proper lane change and more scanning of mirrors frequently.

So downtown has some tight turns i pass through them rather smoothly and rather carefully, My turns were really good for someone who just start driving a bus.

The student almost swiped a MTA bus granted the MTA park low right at the corner. He passed.

The other student never yield to emergency vehicles, running yellow light.

The other student gear was in reverse, the trolly brake had to be pulled a few times, lane changes, almost tearing off the side/tail end of the bus.

Yesterday I was the only who had a lot of unsatisfactory. It sucks.

But nah all of us had mixed results. I knew I wasn't going to do well. Really if all of us had a failed I could see why.

But a student came really came dangerously close to hitting a bus but they passed. Cool story bruh. FOHWTB.

I am not jealous or angry at the student who passed, that's their journey, no hater sh*t. I hope he does well. He was happy to be here.

You are going to pass day 9 no worries, passing day 7 means nothing don’t forget what I told you a few posts ago, out of  all my classmates I was the only one who failed day7 10 years later im the only one who is still here as they all failed during probation and one was terminated two years in

  2. You will make it don’t stress it, a lot of ppl make it seem like not passing on day 7 is a big deal..passing on  day 9 no different i remember passing on day 9 everybody else in my class pass day 7…..10 yrs later I’m the only one left meanwhile everybody else didn’t even make it through probation

As of today I received a memo from another co-worker at ENY depot that they are starting construction work for Articulated revision.

Yeah I can confirm this as well...I was at Rockaway station today saw a ARTIC in training doing A dry run on  the b82 route

Novas are better suited for the island as they’re built for heavy service and can take on rough streets.

A portion of Hylan blvd going To/from  Richmond Ave is brutal right now, I see your point about rough streets...I was told UP gave the novas a try but  they decided to go with the new flyers I just wish Staten Island did the same for the new flyers

Why are they supposed to be getting so many new local buses? I thought most of their local buses are from 2015 and on?  There are depots out here with much older fleet.

For example  Manhattanville. SI getting new buses I’m not aware of but I’m pretty sure they reaching that point where them Orion’s  out of Castleton need to be put down I was just wishful thinking SI with  a fleet of new flyers in every  single depot (Of course not Meredith depot) would be awesome

What do you find so problematic with SI’s nova fleet?

Mainly the design of how many passengers can fit on the bus I feel that little section  behind the driver should not Have that one seater but instead made it a standing section,  Oh and  let’s not talk about how the mirrors are poorly mounted On the bus to see your reference point...maybe it’s just me or I’m just a new flyer lover since I been driving those since I was in Atlanta

  7. Hey guys Can a O/A BO attend a TA union meeting and vice versa and if so do they still have the rights (like voting?) I’m just asking because on the union website the calendar shows two separate dates monthly for meetings for O/A & T/A BO’s I figure since the dates are posted like that ,they want the respected authorities to attend their meeting dates. I’m a O/A BO who works out of a TA DEPOT (ULMER PARK) I attend the OA MEETINGS Monthly But today I was thinking of attending the TA Meeting just to get a update on contract talks

@NMondi since we don’t know exactly when they will call us why don’t u just go ahead and take the road test so you can get the cdl out of the way? I took this exam too and I just passed the cdl road test last week. U should do the same maybe?

To piggy back on what Natalie said it best you get your CDL license now  it will be less stress on you and you won’t be rushed.....if you go in with just your permit you will have to worry about passing your 10 day training (which is really a pain) then if you do pass the 10 day training you now have to pass the road test..if you were to fail the road test (I believe you get two chances) your disqualify from MTA...as to if you get your CDL on your own time you can take the road test and not have to worry about passing or failing on the first try

I received invitation letter for MaBSTOA for exam 4105. If I did really well on exam 9604 will it be worth it to transfer over to T.A? Is the only difference that T.A is considered civil service? Does mabstoa have a pension plan? What are the differences on insurance plans? If someone knows the differences your response will be very appreciated. Thanks

Yes they do have a pension plan...Long story short T.A can work in any depot o.A can only work in manhattan Bronx Brooklyn so if you wanna work in queens or Staten go with the TA

Keep your work record clean and wait for the pre-employment letter to be sent to you. I'm not sure if you have to officially resign before you get to (or as part of final processing) but they will walk you through that during the process.

    Also, ask your union rep.

Seven eleven! My guy! How you man I’m this close to coming to Staten Island to your depot..but yeah that’s the thing no rep here at my depot (M-ville) know for sure how it goes one told me I have to start over another told me I just sign separation papers from O/a to t/a and go on with my day I was looking for threads on this but can not find one

Honestly it maybe less then a year. 2019 is a big retirement year. The B/O’s in my depot alone is losing around 70 operators. Not to mention the big L train Shut down coming. So a lot of the people off this list don’t be surpirse if it’s faster then you think.

Also that last TA exam not a lot of people pass that test so they’re gonna fly i mean fly thru that.

What depot you out of? Is it quill because when I went to pick that depot was close and the vets was like yeah they close because everybody jump ship and picked out to quill for the L shuttle! Lol

So, what did you folks think of the test - both the civil service and BOSS?  The BOSS was as expected but the actual test test was crazy!   🤣  I think I caught a couple of errors.  Anyone notice any mistakes?

QUESTION 43!!!! I memorize that question and I will be down at 180 to protest in JAN.

I was invited for pre employment but was denied because I had a pending ticket. I got the ticket January 2016 but was found guilty September 2018. If I am not mistaking the points will disappear after 36 months from the ticket being issued meaning January 2019. Can anyone please correct me if I'm wrong?! Any feed back will be grateful. Thanks

Months start counting from the date you was found guilty...what kind of ticket was it? One ticket should not get you denied unless you already had one then 4 points on your license

I am currently in the Dept. of Buses. I have wanted to go into Subways for a while. But I recently heard from two colleagues that it’s not a good job.

One was a conductor for 4 months , the other a TO for eight months. Both started in buses, left for subways, and came back. Maybe it’s not a better job as I had thought??I figured less liability and dealing with people, than being a BO.  Yes, I know conductors have to deal with people too. But I figured not as much as BOs.  Plus I figured the TO never deals with people. My colleague said otherwise.  Both said that subways is a completely different animal, worse working conditions, low morale and less pay. Their words, not mine.

Anyone have personal knowledge or experience, or know people with knowledge/experience on which job is better? Subways or buses? Should I stay in buses, or try subways?

Plus, I was originally told I can take a year off from Buses to try another division, and go back if I wanted. But recently I was told I can’t, bc I’m OA, not TA.  No one seems to know for sure if I can take a year break or not to try subways; I get conflicting info.  I don’t want to give up Buses if subways isn’t a better job. Plus there’s no guarantee I’ll pass training or probation. Then if I leave Buses and can’t go back, I’m screwed.

    Any wisdom appreciated.

First thing first what’s your main goal? Whatever your main goal is base it around that..if you can’t stand the people on the bus then go to train (one of the main reasons why I wanted to switch over as well) I have two friends and both are conductors they love the fact that they don’t have to deal with what we go through: lyft uber dollar cabs taxis trucks ups fed ex sanitation all trying to cut us off on the road just to catch a light a fare or etc. Only thing that’s annoying is when they get to the EOL they have to wake up the homeless people that are sleeping in the car....pick your poison there are pro’s and con’s with both sides,I felt the same way (as I stated before) but I made the choice to just stay in buses why? Well because my main goal is to be promoted and make more money/work less (another words work smart not hard) yes T/O make more then B/O and B/O make more and top out more then train conductors and T/O don’t have to deal with customers like us B/O but we can move up to dispatchers getting paid $46/hr (don’t quote me not the exact amount but I’m 100% sure that’s the top pay) now you know what they do, they be at their post on the corner or in their car giving us short signs or go dark to the relief point other then that they do nothing  they deal with no customers and they get paid more, granted you can move up to from C/R to tower control T/O assistant dispatcher  and not deal with customers but since you already in the door the next level is just around the corner!that’s my wisdom to you...

oh and I’m not sure the person name (and I don’t feel like scrolling through the threads lol) but to defer all you have to do is just go down to 180 in person with your PE letter signed and checked “decline” they will make a copy of the letter..keep in mind you can only defer three times out the length the list was established, and when ever you do decide to accept the offer you got to wait until a opening is available but before that you have to inform the HR rep that’s in charge of C/R hiring im pretty sure you know who that is (if not her name is Ms.Vargas)...good luck to everyone and just have patience

Okay. I figured Vision Zero might change things, especially given that drivers who hit pedestrians on the street, accidental or not, are getting locked up. Thanks. BTW, my boss said they should be able to do a leave of absence for the training.

NOT  quite Bus Operator will only get arrested on the scene if they believe the bus was in the crosswalk while people were walking

If that doesn't help you, I'm going Monday I'll see if they got a sheet I can snap a picture from of their schedule..... It's the same guys that come with the shoe truck is all I know.

I’ll appreciate that a few of my guys here at MTV went to Kingsbridge to pick up the shirts they said the rule is two to each driver and They Check you off by your pass number They could have been lying but what thy said they did was give them a random pass number...so when they come to our depot they will give them their real pass number and now they will have 4 shirts lol smh

Yes, bus ops and dispatchers are getting polo shirts as part of the summer uniform. Distribution just started this month, so they will slowly get through the system.

You know what depot they are at giving out the blue polos?/And or find a way to see where they will be next? My depot (MTV) won’t get the shirts until the 20th..I’m not waiting that long lol
