Looks like they scheduled a conductor exam 3708 (promotional) on the list of upcoming exams. Application period from 11-1 to 12-15.

I wonder how that will impact this list.

Would people who already took the current test that's established be able to take this new one?

I'm currently in training now so I can help with this bit. Training is between 7-9 weeks and the reason I said in between is due to the fact that B division training is slight longer then A because there's more equipment to learn. Test consist of written quizzes (Signals, troubleshooting, Midterm and Final) and a hands on test (Yard and Road). 80% is passing on the written quizzes and the Yard and Road test are Pass or Fail. If you fail a quiz you're able to do a redo but instead of multiple choice it's all fill in (All answers have to be written out). If you fail a road or yard test you basically need to resign and you lose the job.

    Thank you.

Don't let that 100 on the signal test make u nervous. I've seen people come in so scared of failing the signal test that it's all they study and they fail all the other exams. So much is made of the signals but it's actually very easy if you are paying attention to how the signaling system actually works and what your operation has to be at each signal. If u just worry about verbatim definitions and memorizing them without actually understanding what the signals mean, and then u stumble on a word and have to explain yourself to the supt, that is where you will fail. Supt is going to ask u "well explain to me in your words the function of this signal and how u gotta operate" or something along those lines and u won't know wtf to say because u were obsessed with memorization instead of learning.

Just relax and pay attention and everything will start to make sense to you after a while. It's overwhelming at first but it isn't rocket science, you will get it.

Yes absolutely and thank you for that. My list hasn't been reach but i am just preparing mentally to what to expect once that times come.

  4. I feel like the scary part is not getting the 100 on the exam part like what if you get 95 or 90 but like u tried your best but got a few wrong. Then to know u did all that training, study and end up getting let go because of the exams part.

On the signals you have to get a 100. There’s a written part if you write a definition wrong they will have you speak to the school car superintendent to make sure you understand the definition properly and depending on your school car record it can go either way. Just speaking from what I seen with others. Just study and put the time in and you’ll be fine! Once you get called all of this will be explained.

    Appreciate the info thanks

Training depends on division you go to. I believe it’s around 6 months for A division and 9 months for B.

You’ll take multiple exams on rules and procedures relating to train movement and troubleshooting trains.

If you fail the signal exam you will lose the job.

You should really search and read this entire thread because you’re not the first person to ask all those questions.

Thanks for the info, and whats the least score u can get on the signal exam? Or you have to get 100?

For those that are waiting for their list # to be reached I heard that they have classes scheduled, all the way up into December. Also there are always people resigning and also going back to previous titles like me.

That's good to hear just hoping I get called list number 72##

Applied for the app for conductor exam 95148 01/03/2019 for Staten Island railroad. Has anyone ever gotten called? How long is the exam good for? How long does it usually take? Thanks!

I applied to the same one too and mine says pass pre screening but that's it. And the thing is there no email or number to call to see what's going on.

Which one did u apply for and did it say anything about pass pre screening and then pass??

I had applied for the bus operator #99929 and  on the screening results it had said pass and I did receive a letter to come take the test. But the other ones are saying the same thing but didn't receive no emails or what not

My list is 42** and patiently waiting, remember this exam list expires in 2024.     I think I'm Jan or Feb so a lot can happen by now and then, and also it could also be extended with COVID still being around and so forth.
