  1. Makes a huge difference. Especially if you’re completely new to Transit. Great to have a support system as you all go through the experience after school car.
  2. I think you’ll be fine. As long as the money has been sent you should be good to go.
  3. I believe the first day we get all the books and the second all the tools. But it may all happen the first day. First day is basically a big introduction to Transit and the lifestyle. And be on time! They like to make an example of those who are late the first few days and make them write G2’s.
  4. Hey folks, for those going into the December 26th class, and even for those with class in the future, figured I’d give some suggestions and what to expect since I’ve already been through school car for conductor. None of this is absolute, but some may find it helpful. First off, consider getting a cheap watch if you have a smart watch. Watches are considered part of our PPE and they may give a hard time if you’re using a smart watch since technically we’re not supposed to use them while on duty. The uniform company sucks, so it may take a while to get your transit clothes. Dickie’s makes some great shirts that you can use in the meantime. Just make sure they’re gray. The transit pants, well they’re awful and I’ve never worn them in my time here. I go with navy Gap khakis made from the stretch fabric. Super comfy and great for climbing trains. And we will be climbing lots of trains. But go with whatever is comfortable for you. As long as they’re dark navy. You’re gonna need a backpack with straps that can be hidden. Kaka Is a popular brand amongst these parts, but a simple search will turn up options. Maybe a second bag to carry books. We’re gonna get a bunch of books on top of our equipment so a secondary bag may be helpful if you don’t want to carry all that weight on your back. When we get separated into our smaller classes consider creating a WhatsApp group, or whatever text service you prefer. We used it in conductor school car and it was a great way to help each other out, and to stay in touch when we all were on the road and were experiencing the XX life. We still keep in touch and are close. Finally, think of school car like a boot camp. We’re gonna get flooded with information and it may seem overwhelming at first, but we go over everything ad nauseam. They’re gonna try to scare us, everything we do wrong will cost us our job blah blah. As long as you do what you’re supposed to you’ll be fine. They want us to pass and they’ll do their best to help us. We gotta put in the work. School car is fun, but it’s work. Hope you all found this somewhat helpful. If anyone has questions feel free to ask, or DM me and I’ll help to the best of my ability.
  5. Avengers. I’ve worn them 3 years straight. Really comfortable.
  6. You’ll get sworn in on Monday if everything is ok. After that your next stop will be PS 248, MTA learning center, on December 26th 😎
  7. Thankfully, as someone that’s already an employee, I didn’t have to do the fingerprinting again, so my experience may differ from some others slightly
  8. First off congrats! Second, don’t be nervous. Just fill out the paperwork. Anything you need help with, just mark it and they can help you out. It’s not that big of a deal. You’ll get there… and waiting will be involved lol. But then once you hand everything in and they process it. They’ll call you in, tell you when class starts, where to order your boots and what to expect on the job, then you get your pass pic taken and you go. It shouldn’t be as long a day as medical and pre employment.
  9. I did the medical November 23rd. They contacted me on Monday, December 5th.
  10. You start about around $37.49 an hour. After 260 road days in revenue service you go to top pay which is $39 and change. Contract talks are coming up, so the top pay should increase, unless the union completely drops the ball.
  11. You’ll be in the same induction class as well. On the 26th. We’re in the same pre employment group.
  12. So I’m actually in for final processing today. I was able to adjust the date and go in my RDO instead of getting screwed over by the crew office on Friday lol. Good luck everyone.
  13. Equipment you get at PS 248 on one of the first days. The first day is an orientation. Final processing you’ll fill out those documents and get your pass photo taken and be sworn in.
  14. Start date is gonna be the 26th of December. I just got the call for final processing as well. But mine is Friday at 9am
  15. Yup. As long as the weeks are available you can do them all in a row. I try to space them so I have breaks throughout a year. And keep a week in days to extend days off or if something comes up.
  16. Calendar years. I’ve already got my 4 weeks due to my time as CR. So when I pick my first vacation as a TO I’ll probably just get the month of February off lol. It’s slim pickings the first couple years. Closest I’ve gotten to summer is the second week of September.
  17. When you start you only have two weeks. You can take them consecutive or spread out depending on what’s available. You can also do one week vacation and a week in days. If you know specific days you need then the pick is the best time to guarantee those days off. If not they’re banked for you to use throughout the year. What you don’t use will be given back to you in pay. Yea, every year there’s a vacation pick around November.
  18. None of us were sworn in today. We’ll have to come back in, fill out 401k and insurance stuff, dual employment applications. Then you get sworn in and take your photo for your pass. When I was sworn in for conductor we did it all the same day, so that’s why I was thrown off with how today went. So, expect another day of waiting in lines. I’m guessing it’s because they don’t have a class date for us yet.
  19. I knew I was good. I went for a check up a couple weeks ago. But we’re almost there! Slow and steady, the Transit way lol
  20. Not getting a start date was a major disappointment of the day. But at least I’m in. Just hope we don’t have to wait too long to find out when the class starts.
  21. Does anybody have the link to the pre employment form that came with the canvassing email?
  22. Answered my own question again. Sorry gang. Just inconvenient that many of us are having difficulty logging in
